That feeling when you realize that Joel's watch isn't only a reminder of his daughter because she had it fixed for him, but cause it was broken when she was shot, so it it's stuck on her time of death as well. Played the game when it launched and loved it. Loved this series too, so accurate to the game, which is a good thing.
The funny thing about the watch is that (according to the documentary included with the PS4 remastered game) it was introduced late into the story, when they were near the end. Once they came up with the idea, then went back and added it in at certain moments - Ellie saying "Your watch is broken", Joel looking at his watch after Ellie crosses the plank after the museum, etc.
Hi, I'm a MoCap performer and gotta say The Naughty Dog has always had an amazing team of cutscene writers and directors. These showrunners really did a justice to the video game. Also wanted to share a painful story of mine about the new Resident Evil Remakes. In late 2015 I was in contact with Capcom about the facial likeness role of Leon for the RE 2 Remake. I failed to mention I also have a voice acting background, in the end I lost the part... Now, many years later, when I see how successful those remakes are I can't forgive myself for wasting such a chance. In this business one audition can change your entire life.

This show is great at letting you sit with your emotions. The ending of the second episode is proof of that. No cliffhanger, just enjoy the giant weight they put on you emotionally and enjoy the song and credits 😢
Welcome to "Emotional Trauma" - the show. We hope you survive your stay, and have a pleasant journey. While much of the story is scene for scene taken from the game, except for episode 3. And episode 6 is what they wanted to do in the game, but just didn't have the budget, so they used a different setting. Also the action and the danger of infected everywhere is really toned down in the show to focus on the character aspects.
I've played the game a million times; the show did an amazing job taking some of the best parts of the game and made them realistic enough for the show. They cut some stuff and added some, not important as you haven't played the game, but you definitely should give it a try. Some minor points, the infected people aren't really confirmed to actually be dead, hence they're not called zombies, they're called "Infected." The show doesn't go into depth but there are four stages of infections, you've seen two. The newly infected are called "Runners," their main priority is to spread the infection as fast as they can, hence the behavior of the infected at the start, they're fast and will chase after you relentlessly, (the behavior of both the old woman keeps coming even after she breaks her leg, and the random infected that chases Joel while he's carrying Sarah). The other infected you see in the second episode are "Clickers," hence their clicking noise. They've been infected for years, hence why the mushrooms have split open their faces, making them blind, but giving them super hearing. There are two other stages, one that comes before Clickers, and one that comes after. Runners > ? > Clickers > ?. The question marks are the unknown stages which are introduced late so, no spoilers. Thank you for reading this useless Ted talk.
There are YT channels that have uploaded the game cutscenes into "episode" chunks that take about 6 hours so anyone can now watch and compare the changes between the game and the HBO show.
You're right, John Hannah was indeed Jonathan in The Mummy. However, here I feel like he's more channeling his Quintus Lentulus Batiatus from the show Starz Spartacus. I would really recommend that you watch this but knowing RUclips and its view on ... well... human bits (as opposed to violence which is apparently fine), editing it to be YT friendly would surely be h*ll. No joke. But yes, Spartacus which is 3.5 seasons (Season 1, a prequel miniseries, then Seasons 2 and 3), is a really really good show.
I had this pop up on my recommendations, saw that you were a Mom reacting to episode 1 and whispered ‘oh no’ 😂 I know I’m about to watch some heartbreak
i like that they stick to the story in the game, unlike the movie you mentioned. it had nothing to do with the great novel it was based on, other than the title.
Lol the number of reactors that are bothered by Joel not shutting the door cracks me up. He kicked the door open, so shutting it will probably do absolutely nothing to stop someone from just walking through it, even if it was shut lol.
The last of us is a video game which is why it doesn’t have the ‘cliffhangers’ that you were saying most shows have. It’s a game so it doesn’t need to try and get the player to tune in to the next episode because there are no episodes
Just have to say how impressed I am with the editing of your video. I know the uncut episode and you've cut down scenes so seemlessly that you wouldn't realize there's even a cut if you didn't know the full episode already. Your editor has skills. FEDRA "Federal Disaster Response Agency" is the show's version of FEMA. They've essentially become the public face of the government and military.
YOU ARE GONNA BE BLOWN AWAY, THIS IS ONE HELL OF A SERIES. Well acted, realistic, brutal, frightening, and emotional to the core. Your the perfect person for this show too, you didn't play the game and don't know what's gonna happen next, so enjoy the journey, it's well worth it. You, like the rest of society, fell in love in less than 30 mins with his daughter Sarah, only to be heart-broken immediately, awesome reaction, and very well done.
i agree. i love how there's no dumbass characters in this that make you super annoyed. the motives, dialogue, and actions of everyone are all well-written and directed very realistically, and people generally make pretty rational decisions. you can see where everyone's coming from. it's so hard to enjoy a show and empathize with characters when they're saying and doing stupid shit, or drama is inserted just for the sake of drama. the funny banter and mature dialogue were some of the hallmarks of the game, and i'm glad they translated that well into the show.
Jakarta was a city of about 9 million people, and the mycologist was willing to sacrifice them all (including herself and her family-probably including kids and maybe grandkids), so 9 million men, women, children...for the greater good. As someone who has played the game and then watched the series, I would be interested to see your reaction to playing the game after you’ve seen the series. As you know by now, all the odd numbered episodes are the best. Just like GOT.
It was funny that you said the first episode felt like 2 episodes put together because that's what happened, just not how you described. Originally the first episode ended with Joel tossing the child's body on to the bonfire, and everything after that was the second episode. But Ellie hadn't appeared by this point and HBO wanted Bella Ramsey to appear in the first episode. So they combined them into a single episode. You'll notice that it's 81 minutes long - a lot longer than the other episodes.
I think it was also that they thought it was too dark and depressing to end it with the death of two children, so people wouldn't want to keep watching.
@@demopem From what I heard there only complaint was that Ramsey wasn't in the original premiere. Yes, the original premiere would have ended with Joel burning the body of a dead child, but HBO knew what the show was. This pretty much feels like the game. Something to keep in mind is that in the Last of Us series: there are no good guys and bad guys. Everyone is grey, just like in real life. Nothing is simple, just like in real life. There is nuance to everything. Fedra, Fireflies, the characters themselves -> everyone is good and bad. I strongly recommend looking into the audiobook for WWZ. It is so much better than the movie, it isn't even funny. The movie fucked up royally, actually. I specifically recommend the audiobook over the book because they had different voice actors/movie actors do different character voices, and the performances are universally amazing.

You are new so the franchise so I forgive you for saying the Z word....they are not zombies....they are infected ... these are not undead monsters...these are humans that are very much alive being controlled by a fungal parasite...
Eh, if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck you know. People are gonna call them zombies, since for all intents and purposes that's what they are. Everyone understands it's caused by an infectious disease and not voodoo magic, that's part of the trope at this point.
Well I WAS enjoying your reaction until you felt it necessary to make the underhanded comment about mask mandates. Masks saved lives, and leave you politics out of your reaction. Won’t be back
Thank you for editing out the extreme amounts of profanity. I love this show except for all the bad words. I understand that it is from the Video game and all, but as a Dad of one, it is a little much. I loved your Reaction also.
So I've noticed that the Episode 3 video which she posted a few (?) weeks ago has been removed. No idea why. Did she decide she wasn't going to watch the rest of the season after watching episode 3 which contained a positive portrayal of a heterosexual couple? I only say this because I watched her reaction video for that episode, and she removed *every* reference/scene to Bill and Frank being gay. At first I thought it was just a coincidence but eventually it became obvious that every inference to their romance had been cut out. I even commented on that video that if someone had not seen the actual episode and only watched her reaction video they could easily think that Bill and Frank were just friends, which maybe was her intention? I don't know but my comment got some discussion going, and now she's removed that video, so who knows?
Hi! Copyright bots flagged and blocked the video. 😖 Trying to get it back up. Also I'm looking forward to finishing the show! But I have been so busy I haven't watched *anything* recently. I'll make a community post to let everyone know. Thanks for the comment!
@@overfiend1978 While it never came out and stated in the game that Bill and Frank were gay, you'd have to be blind not to have realized they were gay. Bill talks about having someone to protect and calls them "a partner". He also plays "the pronoun game" when telling Joel about his partner - he never says "he" or "she" - he deliberately doesn't specify their gender. When they find Frank's body Bill says "he was my partner". You can tell from both Joel's and Bill's reaction that this was Bill's romantic partner, not just a friend. Finally, Ellie stole a gay-male porno mag from Bill that she reads in the truck. She specifically says "Your friend will be missing this tonight." If you saw this scene and you still think that Bill isn't gay, well then, bless your heart. 🤣
The first five episodes were really good and then it declined and finished very anticlimactic in my opinion. A huge reason it felt anticlimactic was because it was rushed, especially the latter episodes. They tried to cram an entire game into 9 episodes. A number of scenes came straight from the game (even dialogue) but I still think the game did it better. And many of my gamer friends who've played the game like me are in agreement on that. Great casting, especially for Joel and Ellie and later Frank, but season 1 either should've been lengthened or should've been broken into two seasons to flesh it out better.
That's a hot take. You're the first person I've heard say that it was rushed. I haven't played the games (yet?) though, so maybe I'd have a different perspective if I had played them. The story and pacing seemed perfectly fine to me.
@@danieldaponte1819 I've played it, and I agree with you. In my opinion the quality doesn't go down, and episode 9 is the only part that feels a little bit cut to the bone. They could've made that part a bit longer. Still wouldn't call it rushed though.
The show isn't rushed, it just doesn't include a lot of the battles that the game has. In the game you're constantly fighting Infected/Humans and the show doesn't have much of that, but that's because it's not a video game, it's a TV show.
@@jhornacek Something like 98% of ppl watching the show who played the game don't understand. gamers don't understand tv medium is different than the video game medium.

80s means trouble.... 😢
The video game which came up 10 years ago in 2013 was way better You need to play it. Or at least watch IGN's walkthrough playlist of it
Subbed to watch you watch this.
This is daugter or mom?
This is accurate to the game...
cute when you cover your face
Well I WAS enjoying your reaction until you felt it necessary to make the underhanded comment about mask mandates. Masks saved lives, and leave you politics out of your reaction. Won’t be back
😍
Thank you for editing out the extreme amounts of profanity. I love this show except for all the bad words.
I understand that it is from the Video game and all, but as a Dad of one, it is a little much. I loved your Reaction also.
🍄❤👍
You are against science? And you are watching a science fiction story? This will not go well I think.
Against science? 😅 I love science! I'm so confused.
Still wouldn't call it rushed though.
the only episode that felt rushed was 9.
