The Last of Us | 1x6 Kin - REACTION!

- This was a somewhat more intimate episode, where we got a bunch of amazing and emotional scenes with both Joel and Ellie. That one iconic scene from the game was particularly well done! The whole thing ended with another gut punch of a cliffhanger, and we really can't wait to continue next week!

Danish word(s) of the day:

Kat giving respect to Sam with the makeup. Respect ✊️✊️✊️
😅
and an accidental ref to Ellie's tricolour hoodie (here, it is pink + white + green instead of pink + white + deep purple-brown)
14:34 Joel bearing his soul and begging Tommy to help him by taking Ellie the rest of the way was a wonderful scene. It also showed the bond between siblings and how you’re supposed to go to bat for them when they need you the most.
Pedro just casually trying to win all the acting awards this episode. 👏
Another touching episode. Pedro and Bella deserve acting awards after this one!
Ok, I've been following you guys pretty much exclusively for your Star Wars content for quite some time, but I never subscribed to the channel. I thought I'd check out your reactions to this show and I'm glad i did. You've earned a subscriber! Loving the discussions. You guys are really diving deep into the themes. Also as always Kat's makeup is fire!
Love the tribute to Sam. All week I couldn't stop thinking about how scared and alone he must've been staring out the window all night hoping he won't turn into a monster.
Also, Sally Ride graduated from the school I teach at. Best astronaut name ever.
Thank you very much ❤️
FYI, the metal bar that Joel falls on in the game is called rebar (short for “reinforcing bar”; it’s not a pipe). It’s a reinforcing bar inside concrete to increase structural integrity (in this case exposed from deterioration of the concrete in the building as it is in disrepair from years of neglect).
Enjoyed your reaction as always! 👍
Also, love the language lessons as always, so here’s a small one in return. One word you may sometimes see used along with kin in English is “kith”, in the expression “kith and kin”. That’s literally the only phrase you’ll ever see the word in, because it’s what’s called a “fossil word”, meaning it has fallen in usage to only one or two fixed phrases or idioms and is otherwise unused. For that reason, many native speakers understand the phrase “kith and kin” correctly as “friends and family”, but they may be unable to explain “kith” (or sometimes even fail to recognize it) on its own. (At one time it meant “country”, but over time evolved to be “friends”.)
One of my favorite episodes, Pedro Pascal really chose the correct profession cuz that dude can act his ass off. Just little things in his eyes sometimes conveys so much. I love the cast of the show from top to bottom, every single roll is played so well. I really liked the musical call back to the end of episode 1, but this time as a cover. It's a beautiful cover and '80s means trouble...
I've loved every choice they've made with regards to when they should stick to the game and when changes could improve the overall storytelling so far - it makes such a difference when the creators are involved in adaptations! Pedro and Bella have great chemistry and they're both killing it in these roles, and while the dialogue delivery is brilliant, I'm also appreciating all the silent gestures and looks that speak VOLUMES between them! Enjoyed your thoughts, as always!
I do think it would make more sense if Ellie had tried leaving on her own. Rejecting Tommy, forcing Joel to ride out to find her.
Maria to Ellie: "Be careful who you put your faith in. The only people who can betray us are the one we trust."
Probably the most important sentence of this episode if not of the whole series.
Joel to Ellie: "Dream of sheep ranches on the moon."
This sentence says so much. Joel already connects Ellie's dreams with his.
Ellie drank from Joel's liquor and it was STILL grose. That was a callback to the DLC.
Next episode Ashley Johnson (Game Ellie) will properly get an appearance in the Ellie Flashback (Game DLC).
We met Dina in this episode. Ellie yelled at her during the meal and if I'm not mistaken, we met also Jesse in the cinema.
And it is also very conspicuous that we only see explicit violence when Ellie sees it. Otherwise, the camera is always switched to Ellie during killings and we don't see them, we only hear them. Makes it clear, at least for me, that the story is not focused on Joel but especially on Ellie. This has been going on since episode 1.
Is next episode going to be the Left behind Dlc?

19:20 vibes
Sonny: Impeccable architecture: a great amalgamation of the traditional and the modern
Kat: I have a bad feeling about this
Sonny: Oh yeah, that too!
😂
I absolutely love you guys! Your discussion and analysis are fantastic ❤😊
First Aid 101: DO NOT take whatever you’re stabbed with or impaled upon out… You’ll bleed out and that’s exactly what Joel is doing at the end. 😢
The Show continues to suprise me with how they Balance the Game Moments and Adding new Stuff, but also not just 1:1 the Game moments but they recontextulise them and they make just as much sense. Also loved hearing Troy Bakers Voice when Joel and Ellie were checked outside of Jackson
Nice Make-Up Kat and keep it up with these wonderful Reactions
It's a very important episode, we reached a breakthrough. Joel finally articulated his attachment to Ellie and is now more open, he even smiled! Great reaction, guys! :)
Great reaction as always guys. Kat looks like a Dr. Who character from around 1985, and by that I mean awesome.
Love you reactions guys! From El Salvador :)
That was a great episode. I love the fact that Joel thought he was going to save Tommy but Tommy is thriving. It was actually Joel who needed a little bit of saving from Tommy. Ellie's sarcasm is so good. As the father to a 17 year old daughter, they nailed it perfetly. Also when you did danish word of the day, i was thinking what is Grandma since you mentioned the kid was wiht Grandma. 🙂
Grandma: bedstemor
Maternal grandma: mormor
Paternal grandma: farmor
Needs to be heard, I can't write it phonetically 😂
Pedro deserves that Emmy, damn. That iconic scene (You don't know what loss is) with Ellie was so superbly done 🥰
Just watched the episode and the acting in this one is worth an emmy. Nice outfits btw ✌🏼
kat reminds me of aurora the singer, with regards to the makeup lol, this was a great episode, i think tlou is opening the eyes for execs and producers to the idea that hey, if we make a show based on a well loved game and stick to the script and just change things here and there but with taste and tact then yeah itll be successful.... (looking at you witcher)
look i spot the man himselve he dont fool me even with the scarf Mr.Troy Baker(Joel from the games)even his voice at 8:39 hahaha joel versus joel not everyday(=love from portugal for both of you
Thanks for sharing your latest reaction.
Notice that before settling in for the night, Joel tells Ellie to go to sleep, adding, “Dream of sheep farms on the moon.” You see? He has already incorporated her into his life, into his future, made room for her. Even if he’s not yet aware of it, she has gone beyond being just cargo.
If Pedro Pascal is not nominated for best actor at every awards show this year WE RAMPAGE!!!
This was perhaps my most anticipated episode of the season and somehow it’s BETTER THAN THE GAME! Jackson looks beautiful and Gabriel Luna is as perfectly cast as Tommy as Pedro is for Joel. But what really got me were scenes of Joel clutching his heart from panic attacks and looking up to see a young woman who almost looks like Sarah, and when he was telling Tommy the truth that he believed that he was going to fail Ellie and get her killed.
When Joel was getting teary eyed I cried at that scene, but when we got to my absolute favorite dramatic scene in the game when Joel and Ellie are talking about loss I lost it. That was my most anticipated scene of the entire series and not only did it live up to the hype, it exceeded it. And just like the game it broke me.😭😭😭😭
Also Kat I LOVE the makeup. You look like an anime protagonist.
Also one of the producers in the podcast said that the line "when i wake up i feel like i lost something important" was from pascal, the best line in that scene was improvised. Dude deserves some kind of award for that only
I agree apart from the we rampage part. It's a little disrespectful to other nominees but I'm assuming you're just kidding
@@A-small-amount-of-peas yes I am. Thanks for being one of the VERY few to notice that. One thing I hate about RUclips comments is that it’s impossible to convey that you are kidding in text.
Love the Super Sam makeup Kat is rocking. Good review as always.
Thanks, Sonny! Thanks, Kat! 🪶 Another solid episode with an effective cliffhanger. I especially loved seeing *Elaine* *Miles* playing a small role; I enjoyed her in over 100 episodes of NORTHERN EXPOSURE (1990). It was just as delightful to see *Rutina* *Wesley* again after enjoying her work in most of TRUE BLOOD (2008), several episodes of HANNIBAL (2015) and a single episode of THE WALKING DEAD (2019). ❧ If you're curious about the movie the townsfolk of Jackson City, Wyoming were watching together, it was THE GOODBYE GIRL (1977) and I highly recommend it! #KatAndSonny #TheLastOfUs #TLOU #TheLastOfUsHBO
Dress has middle English origins. To prepare. Field-dress a deer, to prepare a deer by removing the entrails.
I do enjoy the changes to Joel. Slower, hearing loss, anxiety, falling asleep.
Good thing he kept his eyesight.
Fifty six years old you little shit
They had to nerf him a little, in the game we play with a superhero 😂
The look you two gave eachother when you saw you know who staring at Ellie and Joel… 🤫
The young brunette with the braid who was looking at Ellie while they ate I think it's Dina.
there are a LOT of nods in this episode to The Last of Us 2. this episode, along with episode 3 are so far my favorites of the season (though all have been top notch). I absolutely LOVE TLOU2 but it's going to be tricky to adapt to the screen, i think, but i am really looking forward to it.
I recognized the voice of the old man in the beginning, he plays the chief rains fall in red dead redemption 2
Great reaction to the episode. Lots of insights gleaned! Also, gotta say that the depth and breath of Kat's intelligence is impressive, as always! 👍🏽
Joel & Ellie just can't catch a break, they finally get to the lab only to find it empty. Not sure why they didn't recruit some others from the town where Tommy lived to come and help protect Ellie? And now Joel gets gut stabbed. Okay Ellie, time to stay strong and think; Find something to make a stretcher and then use the horse to pull Joel into shelter. Cauterize the wound with the knife and dress the wound with whatever you can find,.
You both look great...love your glasses Sonny & love the eye shadow Kat!
You missed that line about the people who you trust being the ones to betray you? There is a very good reason for the secrecy about Ellie's immunity. Also I am not sure the School Ellie attended thought them first aid for stabbings. I don't know
oh my god I love the red makeup!!!! hell yeah!!!!
Fun Fact: Person singing at the end is Jessica Mazin, Craig Mazin's daughter.
Great catch of the comparison of Sarah and Ellie when confronted with Joel killing someone to protect them. I thought it was interesting that Maria sort of excused Tommy saying he was following Joel and Ellie shouldn't trust him. However, I believe when Joel was telling Ellie about moving to Boston because he was following Tommy to protect him
The scene between Joel and Tommy was breathtakingly sorrowful and masterfully acted. Another marvelous episode.
I kind of believe Joel too. He mentions Tommy signed up for the military, but never says he did. Tommy made his own choices then, because he was idealistic about the world and helping it. He joined the fireflies, Joel didn't. If Tommy is a follower it's due to his idealism and not because he was forced into anything, which is how Maria kind of seems to insinuate. If anything, it makes Tommy sound weak more than Joel sounding like a bad guy, and I don't think Maria fully acknowledged that herself if she delved too deep into her bias on the situation.
10:26 Yes, I think so too.
👍🐶❤❤❤

(and bless Kat)🤧
I think the main reason Joel took Ellie is that deep down he is falling in love with Ellie as his daughter
it was a piece of the bat when thee guy hit the tree the bat shattered and then he stabbed joel with the piece that was still in his hand.
I agree they are different persons but the killing comparison isnt really fair, the first death for Sarah was someone she knew thee neighbor sh would go over and be around regularly. Elli's first witnessed kill was a Fedra puke she had never met at all.
Kats eyes look cool.
Hopefully Joel listens to tommy when he mentioned they couldve done other shit to survive without k1lling people.. cause you know, actions sometimes has consequences 👀
Are you sure? Tommy was the one who had been trained in violence by the military.
@@gailseatonhumbert but Tommy stopped tho, joel didnt. He kept doing nasty shit for years.
@@gailseatonhumbert this is a nod to the sequel.
Tommy is such a daddy I swear lol 😍
whoa i didnt know robin was reacting to this episode, but where's batman?
Good video
No jiraffes? Or was that later ;-;

Engagement and stuff. 💨
I hope it isn't out of place to say Kat's neck concerns me. I'm aware she recently had a child. My sister's neck looked similar after giving birth. It was her thyroid.
It has been checked
The thing is capitalism isn't necessarily about money free trade is also capitalism. Communism, true communism only works if the leaders are altruistic you get one Tin pot dictator and you get USSR, China, North Korea types. look at Negans Commune the walking dead, These were not a good communist place Fedra compounds too. it can work but compaired to Alexandria and the kingom trade groups in the walking dead they were more captialistc and it worked and were good for the poeple in them until negan group tried to end them. I guess what I am saying is either system will work as long as the leaders of the system are good poeple not bad?
There’s a saying I made up some years ago: Any system looks sexy on paper, until you throw it out into the world and add humans.
The native couple reminds me, you should watch the series "Reservation Dogs" (I don't mean the movie Reservoir Dogs). If you want more of that kind of humor, it is a great seris. Taika is Executive Producer and writes for it some, but it is very heavily a Native American run, crewed, cast production.
Low G would make sheep ranching interesting on the moon. Sheep bouncing all over the place.
The makeup is absolutely gorgeous Kat ❤️
Why is Joel supposed to say congratulations to Tommy, I am happy for you?
Let's see, he knows about Joel's everlasting grieve
At other times, Joel gave him a job and saved him from jail many times
He didn't even bother to tell Joel somehow, there is a safe place for you and Tess here
He didn't tell Joel that he got married.
He knows Joel was a good single father, his niece RIP was a lovely person
and yet, he didn't even let Joel know he will be a father, Joel found out by going uninvited, looking for him
I would feel betrayed, I would be furious.
I think, the best thing that Joel did, was just not to tell him congratulations
I would be "Come here. Come here to show you how happy I am"
I hope the script says: and after Joel confesses things to Tommy, this one felt like a Jack-a.
I think Tommy is immature, still thinks of saving the world, by risking nothing, he is spoiled hense selfish, and not that bright.
