Ya missed that the Jakarta section was set in 2003. That was what was on the radio in Episode 1, and they had that whole conversation about where Jakarta is. Jakarta is also where some of the world’s largest flour and grain mills are located. That’s why the convo between the Professor and the military officer was important.
Somebody probably already explained but these are the types of infected and how they look:
1) Runner - first iteration of the infected. The grandma and the dude throwing himself around in episode one were runners.
2) Stalker - halfway between runner and clicker. Is actually intelligent enough to hide and hunt. Sometimes is missing use of one eye. Has started to grow mushrooms out of head. This is the dude that made out with Tess at the end of this episode.
3) Clicker - both eyes covered over with mushroom infection. Can no longer see so uses clicking noises for echo location. Super deadly at close combat. These were the guys in the museum.
4) Bloater - basically the oldest evolution (before you see what’s in part 2 anyway). Alive for at least 15 years. Extremely large due to being grown over with fungus for so long. Beyond deadly. As seen in episode 5. Nearly impossible to kill without fire of some type.
