@@modernwarrior24 for me the latin american voice of Goku is the best of all dubs I never heard of any anime, and I'm not a huge fan of DBZ nor latin american dubs.
@@modernwarrior24 you got a point there sometimes the anime do sound better in Spanish than English like have you watch Naruto in Spanish or play Naruto the Ultimate Ninja Storm series in Spanish it is the best, it freaking kicks ass.
Just for the fact that Goku in the manga says "Don't you already know?", puts the scene above the rest IMO. It's subtle, but it just adds to the fact that Goku has Frieza beaten both physically AND mentally.
When I first heard it, I literally jumped up with a fist-pump and an exuberant "Fuck yes!" For the first time, Goku's full name was used in an *OFFICIAL* English dub.
i also think its really good, i like the performance and i like the sound effects afterwards too! corny as it may sound but its anime, nothing wrong with just a sprikle of corny in my show!
The nostalgia factor is strong, the delivery is fantastic, and it's just the right kind of cheese to make a badass action line. All the other interpretations of the scene are fantastic, and they do fit with Goku's overall personality better, but man if the funimation dub isn't permanently emblazoned in my brain as such a badass one liner. If anything is weak, it's the rest of Goku's "world of cardboard" speech around the final line where the "superman, but japanese" is a little much in retrospect and in knowing the character better than I did when it first aired. But, dor when they show came out, and me barely knowing anime at the time, I think the lines rewrite was actually perfect for western audiences at the time. Maybe it was dumbing down the character a little, but Son Goku was not a name that carried as much heft even within what the Toonami crowd at the time had seen of the character. Again, they're all great, but this is a line where I'm more than happy to acknowledge my nostalgia as a factor in it being my favorite, where as the others are versions I really appreciate now that I've seen dragon ball and know about journey to the west and just in general know Goku better.

@@TheMechaNerd05 it's great for sure. But you have to remember when DBZ came to America, the original version is what a lot of us saw and grew up with. Personally, I like both.
@@fanaferrari1 when reading something meant to have impact the feeling can be lost very easily as it all depends on the reader. So the manga is not as reliable as a tv series. Similarly if you can't speak Japanese and don't know how they speak, reading the subtitles in the Japanese dub is has the same issue as the manga. DBZ completely changed the speech, and had sub par voice acting. Kai however had good voice actors, was in English, and stayed faithful to the manga.
0:27 THERE'S MY GUY. Haha, I've been watching this channel for like 3 years and I never thought that I would see something about the latin american dub here.
My favorite isn't any of these. My first interaction with this scene was from Dbz Budokai. "So, so you really don't recognize me? I am the hope of the universe, the sworn protector of the planet earth. I am the answer to all beings everywhere in pain who cry out for help. I... am called goku, and i... *AM A SUPER SAIYAN!!* "
I'm bias to the 1999 version and I still like it. I have never read the manga. But now I like the manga dialogue better. I'll explain why. Here's the quote. Goku: "Don't you already know? I'm a saiyan who came from Earth to defeat you. A warrior of legend awakened by anger but possessing a calm heart. I am a super saiyan, Son Goku." Both Goku and Freeza are flat character arcs. Goku's postive flat arc is about how the world responds to the truth he believes. That truth is Progression Through Struggle. Freeza's negative flat arc is about how the world responds to the lie he believes. That lie is Nobody Can Progress To Match Or Surpass Me. Robert McKee: "A protagonist, and his story, can only be as intellectually fascinating and emotionally compelling as the forces of antagonism make them." The ideologies in conflict are intellectually timeless. Goku champions Nurture and Freeza champions Nature. If nurture > nature then Progression Through Struggle = True. If nurture < nature then Progression Through Struggle = False. Goku champions Meritocracy and Freeza champions Divine Right. If Nobody Can Progress To Surpass Freeza then Divine Right = True. If somebody can then Divine Right = False. Goku champions Mercy and Freeza champions Cruelty. If people can learn from their mistakes (progress through struggle) then Mercy > Cruelty. If people can't learn from their mistakes then Mercy < Cruelty. "A warrior of legend awakened by anger but possessing a calm heart." So to relate all of this to Goku's speech, this line portrays these timeless debates better. Unlike in the 1999 version "Ally to good nightmare to you," Goku isn't expressing certainty in his philosophy. He is just re-iterating his philosophy that violence is a last resort. He is calm by nature and only violent by necessity. Because the truth is that both Goku and Freeza's philosophies are equally resilient. They're different but valid approaches to what is essentially the problem of inequality. You can promote good behavior by showing Mercy or you can promote good behavior by deterring bad behavior through Cruelty. Each person made their choice, and the question of which philosophy won is answered in how the recipients of Goku's mercy develop after their defeat. They tend to become his friends and allies. They progressed... through struggle.
I prefer the Dragon Ball Z Kai dubbed version because the speech seems less cheesy and more realistic to Goku, Sean Schemmel does an amazing job as Goku and gives the speech vibrant life, and the music that accompanies this version is awesome. Also, unlike many other people, I watched DBZ Kai first and didn't hear the 1999 version first, and when I did, I just couldn't love it like I did the Kai version.

@@dontedoestuff I think only the second part of that line is actually great. "Ally to good" is so corny that it belongs in a silver age superhero comic.
@@dontedoestuff I'd rather Goku seem more heroic than just some dude that likes to fight a lot. DBS makes Goku seem like such a dumbass. Goku is best when he's actually doing smart things instead of giggling like an idiot. I hate that portrayal so much. Seasons 2, 3, 5, 6, and 9 of DBZ are the best, because Goku is taking things seriously and making smart decisions. The rest of the time he's asking people fucking dumb questions about why they're kissing their girlfriends, because apparently he's never kissed ChiChi? I like that Goku is a light-hearted character and I enjoy that he's goofy to a certain extent, but I think the majority of the time they make him look more stupid than just goofy. If I had to choose between heroic/righteous Goku and "durdur why is Trunks kissing Mai?¿???¿" Goku... I want Goku to be heroic as fuck lol.
Both are equal an portay gokus personality both in and out of his transformation. Really both just show the conflict he struggles everytime he utilizes these transformations, I appreciate and am glad all variations now exist :).
"Your evil deeds are like a noose around your neck" is actually a pretty good line. I prefer the original and Kai speech but I feel like the "I can't forgive you" line isn't fitting, especially given that Goku spared Freeza's life at the end of their battle (before Freeza used that chance to attack him, forcing Goku to finish him off).
It's character development. At the peak of his rage he didn't care about anything but revenge but as he saw frieza on the floor bleeding out his heart ached.
goku, as a saiyan warrior, was caught up in anger and vengeance during the fight. coming to the end of the fight, he calmed down and retained his normal kindhearted self. thats how i think it makes sense that he originally felt as if he wouldnt show mercy
Super Saiyan is a form that is motivated by intense emotion. In this case, it’s rage. When Goku turned Super, he was filled with rage and hatred towards Frieza killing Krillin. When Goku spared Frieza, it showed that he developed as the fight dragged on and he got some control over his Super form. Even if that isn’t the case, in a duel to the death, to spare an opponent isn’t forgiveness. It’s humiliation. By not killing Frieza, Goku is basically telling him to suffer.
@@samsonliu4253 I do kinda agree with the first two comments. Overall i just don't like the "hero" thing they tried Goku to be since that's just not him. Also, i think it's funny that "Random Guy" changed his name to "YHWHFearing Guy" lol (atleast i think that's what happend)

The manga tho
@@fanaferrari1 when reading something meant to have impact the feeling can be lost very easily as it all depends on the reader. So the manga is not as reliable as a tv series. Similarly if you can't speak Japanese and don't know how they speak, reading the subtitles in the Japanese dub is has the same issue as the manga. DBZ completely changed the speech, and had sub par voice acting. Kai however had good voice actors, was in English, and stayed faithful to the manga.
When I heard Kai version of 'don't bother apologising', it felt so good!

THERE'S MY GUY. Haha, I've been watching this channel for like 3 years and I never thought that I would see something about the latin american dub here.
The others versions are better BUT "your evil deeds are like a noose around your neck" is just so awesome a line.
I love "Ally to good, nightmare to you!" for nostalgia, but the Kai/Japanese version is much more faithful to the manga
I am a super saiyan, Son Goku."
Both Goku and Freeza are flat character arcs. Goku's postive flat arc is about how the world responds to the truth he believes. That truth is Progression Through Struggle. Freeza's negative flat arc is about how the world responds to the lie he believes. That lie is Nobody Can Progress To Match Or Surpass Me.
Robert McKee: "A protagonist, and his story, can only be as intellectually fascinating and emotionally compelling as the forces of antagonism make them."
The ideologies in conflict are intellectually timeless.
"A warrior of legend awakened by anger but possessing a calm heart."
So to relate all of this to Goku's speech, this line portrays these timeless debates better.
Love seeing one in a million comments, this was really thought out!
bbattlemode I recommend the manga for sure

@@dontedoestuff I'd rather Goku seem more heroic than just some dude that likes to fight a lot. DBS makes Goku seem like such a dumbass. Goku is best when he's actually doing smart things instead of giggling like an idiot. I hate that portrayal so much. @@lj8292 your right
"Your evil deeds are like a noose around your neck" is actually a pretty good line.
Goku isn't dumb but he has never been an eloquent speaker. So the metaphor seems pretty out of character for me.
Also what Random Guy said.
goku, as a saiyan warrior, was caught up in anger and vengeance during the fight. coming to the end of the fight, he calmed down and retained his normal kindhearted self. thats how i think it makes sense that he originally felt as if he wouldnt show mercy

I was on the side of the original japanese dub going in. After your analysis though, I switched to the Kai dub - which kept the content of the original while investing the voice acting with additional emotion and quality that comes from having remastered it. Great video
Thanos: I am inevitable.
Goku: I am a Super Saiyan!
I'm insane, from earth!
("He means SAIYAN...!")
Spiderman: I am not feeling right
For the Kai dub, you know shits gonna get real when Sean says Son Goku instead of just Goku.
I have shouted this line that I knew he's gonna say, I timed it big time
Overall kai's dub was weaker to me in most cases. And it's not dbz without faulconner music
@@squirlking2 Not gonna lie the faulconner score is dated and wouldn't have fit DBZ Kai if anything the kikuchi score fits Kai more
@@The_Blue_Otaku I've listened to it all and what I grew up with. Dubbed toonami dbz with epic rock faulconner osts will always be #1 to me.
I notice the differences in the lines even if it's just a few sentences and I want my filler and what I grew up with.
@@squirlking2 As someone who grew up watching DBZ Kai on TV i feel like the faulconner score dosn't fit mostly if you want to binge watch OG Dragon Ball then DBZ it's like you go from Kikuchi's orchestral score in OG Dragon Ball then boom Faulconner's edgy 90s rock score in DBZ
This dude screamed "Super Saiyan" it turned from manga style to animation
Actually, it just turned into the "Full Color" manga. That's why Goku's SS energy aura is colored white instead of golden like in the anime.
@@darthgoku90 ok thanks
"Hope of the Universe" always gets me
Mario Castañeda and Latino Dub will be always my favorite anytime
2:46 I love the effects and the way you said it, I got goosebumps
The Kai rendition gets points from me for being one of the few, if any, version of Funimation's dub to have Son Goku's full name.
I grew up with the Hungarian dub. While it's great (nostalgy kicks in hard here), the s in Son is pronounced like the SH in 'shall', cause of the language - and they did not give a fuck back then for the original pronounciation.. It's hard for me to hear that in English.
As I remember, Sean had to fight to get that included in the English dub. He was right to do it, too. I think it adds a significant effect to the end of the speech.
Don’t forget the Big Green Dub.
"I am the bacon in the firdge for all livings things that cry out in hunger *I AM THE SUPER* gets shot) SAiyan"
"I am the hope of the Omniverse!
I am the lightbulb in the darkness!
I am the bacon in the fridge for all living things that cry out in hunger!
I am the alpha and the Amiga!
I am the terror that quacks in the night!
I am Son Goku and I am the Super...
Sayian."
This is the best version.
Abridged certainly did do it best.
0:27 Ok, jamás me espere ver a Castañeda en este canal jaja.
Tampoco yo, me sentí como en casa
El Kokun con el que creci
Por fin!
Yo sí, Mario es legendario
Jajajaja aqua susio!
