      Glad you were able to get DDWRT installed on your Linksys E3200s! They're definitely running better software now than they were before. I honestly have not used DDWRT that much anymore, other than flashing it as in this video, and restoring back to factory firmware. So I don't have my own video on setting up access point in DDWRT. It should be easy enough in the wireless configuration. After watching the video below, it looks like this should work. While the video is old, the UI hasn't changed too much in DDWRT.
      Generally, as long as you shut off DHCP Server, and the Operating mode under Wireless is AP, (and you plug in the E3200 access point into your router with an ethernet cable) that should then work.

    great video! I've been flashing DD-WRT since my Linksys WRT-54G and all my Linksys routers there after.. WRT-54GL, E2100L, WRT1200AC, WRT32X is really fast router (and expensive) sad that the Marvell SoC was scrapped. Going to try my first Netgear (R9000) router this weekend! :excitement:

      Thanks for watching SupaBuma! I appreciate the compliment.
      Sounds like you have quite a long history with DDWRT and Linksys. The classic WRT-54G is a symbol of my childhood and younger years, I remember it quite fondly. Still had one actually as well, but its specs can't event keep up with anything current sadly, but its a great piece of home router history. I hadn't gotten into the other Linksys routers after that, except a Cisco version I have in this video.
      I like Marvell, at least from what they offer. I'm looking to try their SoCs with other SBCs on the market, like the espressoBin and mocaBin boards.
      Good luck with flashing the Netgear router! 😊

      What a coincidence! Maybe you can teach me a thing or two 😀. I have to play around with it more, but what I've seen, I really like the features, especially the VPN. I'm also doing a video on flashing OpenWRT, so they'll be competing for best firmware.
      It is really sad, even newer ones, security is not their biggest concern, it's always about features, and making you pay extra. Sure newer ones get more software updates, but could be better. You're definitely better off using DDWRT on an older router where you can still get updates and support from their community. Try getting help, updates, or good features by asking the manufacturer politely, maybe that will do it 😂

      @@DevOdyssey thanks for explaining this. My R6700 router has security vulnerabilities and Netgear is not patching it anymore. So I was wondering if flashing DD-WRT will help with these security issues. Appears that is the case, so I will install DD-WRT this weekend. Thanks again

      @@Marthastewart209. You're welcome! Thanks for watching! As expected, with router vendors, they stop updating good hardware and let serious security vulnerabilities stick around, which clearly isn't good for any consumer who cares about their privacy, data, hardware, etc. If you do flash it with DD-WRT, it definitely would help, so long as you are getting an up to date build of the software. You want to use something more recent as its less likely to have security vulnerabilities, since DD-WRT, or any software for that matter, has security vulnerabilities, and really its a matter of how often software is updated to keep it secured.
      It does look like the R6700 is compatible with DD-WRT, so good luck! However, make sure your router is version 1, and not a higher version.
      dd-wrt.com/support/router-database/?model=R6700_v1
      Lastly, there are other router firmwares / software that you can use if you find that DD-WRT isn't the right fit for you, such as OpenWrt and Tomato. I personally like OpenWrt the most, but my second choice is DD-WRT.

      To be quite honest I have not used DDWRT much, and haven’t really worked with activation. I actually didn’t know there was an activation available for DDWRT.
      I did a google search and looks like activation is related to custom builds, are you using a custom build? My guess is the activation is related to the specific custom build version (if you are using one) and as a result, you can’t update. The way you might have to update is by getting a newer version of the custom build and maybe a new activation key associated with it, and then upload the new firmware version to perform an update. However I’m not 100% sure. You might be able to find some more information on the DDWRT.

      @DevOdyssey  2 года назад

      Hi Mohammad, thanks for watching!
      Looks like you meant to comment on another video, where I’m setting up VLANs on OpenWrt, as DDWRT does not have a LuCi interface.
      So the version of LuCi you are using does not have the switch option in there, as VLAN set up has been significantly changed since OpenWrt 19.x and LuCi 19.x. They use a new architecture called Distributed Switch Architecture, which has been in Linux kernel for some time now.
      I will be making video on VLAN setup in OpenWrt 21.02, but basically you have to set up a bridge interface where you do VLAN filtering. You can refer to the OpenWrt documentation on how to setup VLANs in 21.02.

      You can also watch another video here on how to accomplish this from Van Tech Corner.

      So this may depend on your version of DDWRT, but I am not sure if it actually creates a wireless network automatically.I don't feel its the case, so the way you'd want to do this is by connecting to the router via an ethernet cable, and then reaching the DDWRT web interface by going to the default IP Address. From there you should have no problem setting up the SSID with a custom name and also SSID password after setting your security type, such as WPA2/3. Have you been able to get this far? If not, I'm not sure if your issue is build specific or not.
      This wiki section from DDWRT around general Wifi settings should be helpful.

      @DevOdyssey  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for watching liverpool mo!
      Sadly, I personally cannot recommend an exact 4G LTE router that DDWRT works on. This is only because I have yet to test out DDWRT on different routers, but also test it out with 4G LTE routers. So I can't give a personal recommendation as a result, but this is what I found when searching online for 4G LTE DDWRT routers.
      wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/3G_/_3.5G
      wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices
      I'd have to say it looks like their USB 4G LTE dongle support is pretty good, so if you have to "bolt on" 4G LTE to a router that doesn't have it, you can do so pretty easily. Looking at the first link shows you all the supported modems, of which there are quite a bit.
      In order to find a 4G LTE router that's compatible with DDWRT, I'd imagine you'd need to find not just a compatible router architecture / hardware, but also make the the 4G LTE modem in the router is also supported. If you can find that, then you should be good.
      Sorry I don't have anything else. If you're not set on DDWRT, you can also look at OpenWrt and can likely find 4G LTE routers that are supported in their table of hardware.

      Thanks for watching @pugnationphilippines5034!
      I'll be quite honest, I have not touched DD WRT since making this video. I basically shifted to OpenWrt after seeing how much more it worked for me and my use cases. Supportability, installing etc, all just felt better for my workflows. With that, my knowledge here will be very limited, but hoping I can guide you in the right direction.
      For the IP Address, its probably your standard 192 . 168 . 1 . 1 in your browser to reach your web interface for DD WRT. I don't think that varies between hardware that DD WRT is installed on, but I can't make any guarantees there. I am assuming you have tried this, and if so and it doesn't work, its possible something went wrong with the flashing of the router and its bricked. Thats a much more complicated scenario and would require a decent amount of troubleshooting the community has on their website. Hopefully thats not the case, as worst here is that its unrecoverable.
      I'd recommend going to their forum and website to learn more. You can find the links in my video description.

    My router does not sync date and time in dd-wrt, do you have a solution for it?

    • @DevOdyssey
      @DevOdyssey  2 года назад

      Thanks for watching Mariana!
      I honestly have not played around with DDWRT enough to know. I generally found it to be tad buggy but I know it works well for many people. I'd have to reflash my router with dd-wrt and spend more time with it and get to know it better.
      As for why its not syncing date and time, there only one reason that comes to mind. First check to see if your DDWRT router is sending Network Time Protocol (NTP) traffic to an NTP server to request date / time info. This protocol typically runs on port 123. I'm sure there are settings for this somewhere in DDWRT network settings. You should be able to test it and if this fails, then its likely the reason why date / time isn't syncing.

    Is it possible to change firmware of isp provided router

    • @DevOdyssey
      @DevOdyssey  5 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for watching @user-yk7wq7kf7u!
      That really depends on what hardware they provide. Given that ISPs typically lease this equipment to you, I strongly advise against trying to modify / overwrite their firmware. Its possible that you could brick the device they gave you which not only would be against their terms of use, but also, obviously, stop you from getting internet access. They may have something in their firmware that enables internet access to begin with.
      You're best bet is to deny their equipment, and bring your own hardware (modem, router) if you can. If not, see if you can configure their router to act as a bridge, rather than a router, at which point you can connect your own router to their router, and use your router to manage your home network.

      Given what you've noted, I can't imagine them taking the hardware back as you've paid for it in full, let alone, you are not being billed for it, the best indication I see that you "leased to own" instead of only a lease.
      Great to hear its yours to now play with. Anyway, I'd love to help if I can, but I'd need to know some more details first. What hardware are you using? It's possible that it can't be flashed with other firmware, due to support reasons by the flashed firmware (i.e.DDWRT, OpenWrt not supporting it), but once we figure that out, I can guide you in the right direction on how to flash it with newer, more powerful firmware.

  • @bmunday

    dude. in forums, everybody says dont use the router database. for like 6-7 years. you seem to be using it for compatability/ cool. but search your firmware in the forums to find RECENT compatability, and specific forums, right?

      You are correct in that regard. I have seen that in the DDWRT forums. I was lucky enough to be using an old enough router that was still up to date in their database to find compatibility. But yes, for finding the most recent firmware, I believe it's best to search their forum and find the results there.
      I haven't pursued DDWRT after this video, as I found that I enjoyed using OpenWrt more and it fit my needs and my style better. DDWRT is still a good option depending on your needs and technical skills. I can't speak to flashing newer routers with DDWRT, but I imagine you'd find that information in their forums as opposed to the router database.

      To be quite honest, my experience with DD-WRT is very limited, really only to actually the install. I have had a better experience with OpenWrt for features, functionality and compatibility and mostly have gone that route.
      However, to my knowledge, I believe the trx files are used for the initial flash to DD-WRT. You can find instructions below from the router database (the link assumes you are on revision D of your Asus N12)
      Either way this link does have bin files for the updates to mega and mini from 2022, not sure if there is anything else that’s newer. The trx might work for an update but I would be cautious unless you found some sort of confirmation that it work. So far, in reading the dd wrt wiki, I’m seeing that you update with the bin file and not trx, so I’d advise not to do that, again unless you have reputable information that it would work.
      Try the bin files from the router database and it should update you to a newer / newest version they have available for the N12.
