- PERTH | We take a behind the scenes tour of the state of the art, Optus Stadium in Perth, Western Australia. Voted Most Beautiful Stadium in the World in 2019 in Paris at the international Prix Versailles architecture awards.
Take in breathtaking views of the Swan River from the Sky View Lounge. Go high up in the stadium for an amazing view of the playing surface as well as a peak at the inner sanctum. We get behind the scenes access to the West Coast Eagles change rooms as well as the Fremantle Dockers change rooms (however Dockers not featured in this video).
From leather recliner chairs, to the coaches box, media room and private and corporate boxes.. Optus Stadium is a must visit, especially for football fans.

@@geoshalin Hi Geo, Australian Rules Football is the sport that is played almost every weekend in the stadium when its football season.. Rugby is also played with big i national teams/international, as well as Soccer has filled the stadium for some games.. eg Manchester United, Leeds, and some others.. stadium has also hosted some huge concerts as well..

I was there in opening day to watch Perth glory vs Chelsea FC. The fireworks and lightening was just amazing!

@@GrantMenner Perth Glory v Chelsea wasn't until mid 2018..by that point there had also already been many AFL games already played there.
@@cbscbs9090 Yes I thought the draw card of getting Chelsea to Perth was partly due to the successful events that the stadium had already hosted..

Another winner, we had a great tour around this beautiful stadium just before we flew back to the UK last year. You have a fantastic resource, designed for just about any event possible. The view from the top deck is amazing! It was a great experience. We have nothing comparable like this in the UK. Australia certainly knows how to support sport with such great facilities.
Here in the UK our weather to say the least unpredictable! It is however, sunny today all be it just 3° Still we have clear signs that spring is at last on its way! Let's hope so, we could all do with a lot more warmth in the sun. Take care, stay safe ❤️
Hi Rosemary, wow, I love that you have been to the stadium. Hope it brought back some memories for you. It looks even better at night when it lights up. Yes we are very lucky to have the stadium. I guess because it is new, it has all the bells and whistles.. I guess the stadiums in the UK are just that little bit older... OMG... 3º brrrr... thats a cold day.. Great to hear that spring is in the air for you.. (that means Autumn for us and cooler days.. but still nothing compared to you... would you believe Optus Stadium has a full house tonight for the football.. 55-60,000 people.. its the first event back at full capacity.. since covid restrictions were lifted on the stadium.. Thanks Dex, yeah I ended up doing the tour on a whim.. It gives you a different perspective when you go through the coaches boxes, change rooms and see some of the function spaces.. and When you walk down on to the grass on the side of the field its an amazing view.. I think they did a great job building the stadium.

I left out some parts Shirley.. (like the Fremantle Dockers Changer rooms.. ). I will have to go back and do the Halo tour.. Where you walk around the edge of the roof, that sounds pretty cool! And the views would be amazing too.😀
Beautiful Stadium; however, where's the openings in between that you need for the airflow, which is so vital for a game of Test cricket?

Gerry, I didn’t know which AFL teams change room to show.. Both the Fremantle Dockers and Eagles have their own change rooms & facilities.. I only showed the Eagles.. There’s other change rooms for visiting teams and games..

what is thr crowd capacity of this Stadium
About 60,000 for Australian Rules Football, however additional 5,000 seats can be dropped in for rectangular sports pitches, so 65,000. With 70,000 for concerts.
Is this perth cricket ground ?
It is now. They also play football, rugby and other big events such as concerts etc. But it is not the WACA (that was the long term home of cricket in WA, but they have moved the games to Optus Stadium now).

Ask any cricket fan of a certain generation and hands down they will say the 2 most characterful grounds in world cricket were the WACA and the Antigua Recreation Ground, now both sadly lost to capitalist commercialism. For all its beauty, greater capacity and mod features, the Optus stadium lacks the character & history of the WACA.
Yes the WACA definitely has more history. It’s still there. Just not used now for the bigger events. Guess the new stadium is creating its own history now since it opened. It is sad though to see the old stadiums go.

Small ground
Guess it depends on what you are comparing it to. It’s a good size for Perth that can be regularly filled creating a awesome crowd atmosphere.
It is primarily an AFL ground which are the largest playing surface of all football codes. When cricket is played here there is a large gap between cricket boundary and oval fence.
Australian grounds are just 🫰❤️🩹
