Desirae spends 60 hours a week couponing to save money on everything she buys. From dumpster diving to hours of online research, she wants to get the most amount of wares for the lowest price at the store.
My family knew a lady down the street who was an extreme couponer, and she opened her home to allow a lot of the low income families to get food, toiletries, snacks, and drinks, etc. It really helped us so my parents could pay bills and not have to get as many groceries bc it was always in stock thanks to this sweet lady.
Wow that woman is a saint 😁
That’s so lovely! 🥰🥰🥰
That's the nicest thing I've read today. What a star.
Wow that's so generous of her. Hopefully one day she gets repaid with her kindness
Oh how kind, bless her ❤
She says she doesn't pay anything but she's pretty much given her life to it and that's quite a huge cost really.
No different than working a 60 hour a week job. For that week of work she actually made 1056$ the groceries were 1077 an she paid 21.26 that is nothing to sneeze at and some people don't make that in a month.
@@sherrypadilla6319 Probably works for many but personally I’d rather have the cash that I could do other things with than have a truck load of toothpaste and energy drinks.
@@Steelee3 lol great point, life is short, you spend 60 hours a week to warehouse stuff most households have very little use for especially in such quantities
@@sherrypadilla6319 She actually made nothing. She happens to only pay a small amount for groceries. Let's say she gets a full time job that actually makes her money. As long as she found a job that pays more than $1770 and she'd be adding money to their bank account. Not just saving.
Great outlook!
Let's have a moment of silence for the cashier's checking these people out.
That poor woman . She will hear beep beep beep all night i think
Poor her for doing her job
@@sweetdaydreamer8868 I think it's a lot more complex and detailed than just the regular checking someone through, plus from what I've seen it can take hours. I do feel for the cashiers and the people in the queue behind the couponers.
@@sweetdaydreamer8868 It's the "too long" in time that these people take to checkout while others wait and wait and wait. . . .
@@Steelee3 we have to verify everything and read everything. If coupon policy says no overage, that means hunting down everything and doing a price inquiry on everything and inputting the amount that comes up. Even worse when it's a limit item because then that's even more fun lol.
I feel the most sympathy for anyone in line behind her.
"Sorry I won't make it back for dinner this week. I'll be in line at the grocery store for the next four and a half days"
Honestly I would love to see someone that does this and donates a large portion to those who need it. It's work but she got 1,000 worth of stuff for 20ish bucks!
I coupon .... almost extreme..... and yes ..... I donate LOTS..... I put a lot of hours into it but how do you say no to free when there’s so many in need ?
@@patsybensend3468 thank you so much for sharing and helping others instead of hoarding.
I saw a video about someone who couponed to donate. I don't remember where I saw it.
Yea 150 deodorants will expire before she can use them up so why not donate.. if not, i think it's better to invest that time into earning money which we can use to buy anything we want instead of hoarding the same type of products
She Got It For 50 cent
Imagine it’s your first day working at that grocery store as a cashier and this is your first customer
😊😊😊😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Could never be me
It's something to learn. Usually they don't throw you in alone on your first day. You'll have someone helping you. It is annoying though.
I lolled 😂
Or if you have one item and have to wait behind her 🤮
it's people like her that are the reason for coupons now having a limit of 1 per product
that means she's living paycheck to paycheck again then
Right. This isnt even possible at stores.
Limit of 1 per ‘product’ is per item. Limit of 1 per ‘transaction’ is different.
So how does she keep up house work
Yeah, this is nearly impossible in the U.S. now because of people like her. My grandmother used to get a few free items each week from "rebates" but now most companies don't even do that anymore.
That dumpster she crawled into was the cleanest dumpster I've ever seen in my life.
It’s a recycling bin so just paper
There was already a ladder there when she stepped into the bin. Either she put it there or production did.
she worked for 60 hrs for about $1057... that's less than $18/hr and she's not even paid in $$$, she's paid in sugar, processed food and chemicals. I hope she has medical insurance.
She had a blog, Coupon Diva, as shown in the video, which likely generated income for her as well
Ha I did the same thing as you- calculated the equivalent pay. Let would be more like $12/hr cause 20hrs is overtime.
I know, not to mention that she's holding up the line. I've seen people like her and I saw one woman who had so many coupons that it's overloaded the system and they threw her out.
I don´t know how much rent she pays... Where I live a spare bedroom would cost 300-600€ per month (!)... If it would cost me 450€, I would have to calculate another 100€/week only for the storage space of all that stuff...
Then the car-driving and the time she is missing out with her kid(s) :(
I would rather live paycheck to paycheck than neglecting my child over couponing...
Let’s say spend 300$ week on groceries and would could invest the remaining 700$. That’s 33000 a year that she could invest. Let’s say her her investment are at 4%…
This sounds great if you plan on living off cake mix with Powerade and toothpaste.
Look at her stock. Do you seriously think that's all she has? Besides, if she doesn't pay for shampoo etc then she has more money for meat.
Hey don't underestimate cake mix. I could eat that all day if I weren't healthy haha
Exactly
Right😅
Don’t forget about grocery rebate apps! So much more offers than cake mix and Powerade!
The thing is, she doesn‘t save as much money as she thinks she is. It’s a lot of stuff she wouldn’t normally buy, and just does because she has a coupon for it, that is then rotting in her pantry. I think it’s a mental thing more than anything else at this point.
Same thought. Isn't it like an obsessive or hoarding personality disorder of some sort. I like to have a few extra items in the house but not to this level.

I can see why stores don't want people using massive amounts of coupons. This is ridiculous
Maybe there should be a limit to how many coupons each person can use eg. per month
They get reimbursed for the coupons by the manufacturers. It’s really not a huge loss for them other than the hassle.
It is not just ridiculous but it's selfish. There are other people that have small grocery budgets as well. But no one can get the products.
Well, maybe they shouldn't have created the process
It used to help my mom out who was a single mom of two. Would save like 60 bucks on stuff we NEEDED. But this level is ridiculous
Not trying to judge, but couldn't this be considered an organized form of hoarding? I mean when she said to donate or have a neighbor shop, that would be really great. Let's face it no one is going to be using 48 bottles of dish soap, or 128 or so bottles of shampoo, and conditioner, all of those razors etc.
Someone who was struggling to make ends meet would probably really, really appreciate anything at all. For someone in a shelter many of those things could be a huge blessing. I know at the end of the day it's hers and she can do whatever she wants with it, but if she doesn't plan on using most of the items rather than collecting dust or being a trophy section of her couponing, someone in need could, and should get some use out of some of the things there before they go bad. Personal care items, detergents, ETC. do have a shelf life. Most of those items if ever they were going to be used that is, would most likely be past their expiration date by the time she got to it. Also, she is only accumulating more, and more at this point. Definitely should give to those in need at some point.
What's the dollar limit in one's bank account that should be considered hoarding?
When I did couponing years ago, this is what I did. I had specific things I would buy, like feminine products, detergent, etc. that I knew people on SNAP benefits couldn’t buy with that program. For example, I donated two shopping bags just of tampons to a woman’s shelter, Gain laundry detergent (which I don’t like but had great coupons) to our local food pantry, etc. I figure if I had the knowledge on how to get things for almost nothing, the least I could do was to try and help others. I liked it-I felt happy.
@@debbieomi hoarding specifically refers to obsessively collecting or holding onto objects. money doesnt usually apply to that, but people who are obsessed with how much money they have or make are also not very healthy
100% agree, Mindy. If she needs to invite neighbors over to take items from her it means she doesn't need to spend 60 hours each week couponing. She clearly has a psychological need to coupon that doesn't seem entirely healthy.

@@err0r-403 Yes but she is buying way more groceries than she needs. A family of three does not spend $1000 on groceries every week.

Yep. Thats not smart of her.
Stores don't double coupons anymore bc of this, at least where I live.
She would do justice by donating this and getting a tax write off.
I have friends who lived in states where you could double and sometimes triple coupons, and they said it was a nightmare when these extreme couponing shows were popular because the extreme couponers would literally clear the shelves of all sale items, without regard to people on a budge trying just to get their families needs met for the week. Rather than take even a dozen items, they'd take all 36 that were just unboxed. So if you wanted to get a couple of boxes of mac and cheese on sale for your kids, you were out of luck because one person took all that was in stock.

She saved about $1000, and in fact she dedicated 60h to that, she effectively earned around $17 per hour. Better than a min wage job. Can this be a consistent effort? At some point having another 100 toothpaste tubes will be less valuable than money.
She would make a great accountant or a financial controller. She’s very organized as well.

That totals $785 per week she could have earned and used for groceries and other things that her family needs because all the supplies she had that they will never use and they will just become land fill which means all that work for nothing. She has a mental problem.
Me too. I wish she would write an eBook so I can take lessons. I’d use it for the shampoo and cleaning supply stock. Nothing food related.
Same
Yeah but she could just work 60 hours and make more than the 1700 she saves from collecting coupons for that long
She’s a mom though. She can do this while her kids are at home, or at school because it’s her schedule. She probably takes care of neighborhood kids and events with her hauls. This frees up a huge chunk of expenses in the budget long-term. From a “mom job” standpoint, this is ideal.
Spend 60 hours a week, and your poor family has to live off Gatorade, Premade Brownie Mixes and candy? No thanks xD I'll keep my 9-5
Do you really think they don't eat anything but that? Couponing saves her money for meat and veggies. And everyone I know eats brownies and Gatorade!
@@uphillhomestead6188 Her pantry was filled with the processed foods that are making her obese.
@@jessiejoseph1093 well I don't know her so I can't say for sure...but that's the stuff coupons pay for. The meat doesn't get coupons usually and besides..I doubt she keeps fresh meat up on a shelf. This is her stockpile , she still has a kitchen to eat her daily meals from. My shelves are stockpiled like hers but I have plenty of fresh stuff in the fridge and freezer. .
Her website was shown in the video which likely was another form of income
@@uphillhomestead6188 she also does have her entire stock pile soooo….
I don't care whatever it is as long as it doesn't cause you harm in any way, don't ever knock someone's hustle. I admire the dedication and effort that woman has and if more people were like her we'd all live better lives.
What about harming herself
It's a waste of time and food. She's not even going to eat half of that.
Just imagine she ends up with a $1000 bill and hears “Actually all these coupons have expired”
😁😁😂😂
Would love to see that happen and see her reaction😆
@@tinahuttner7280 I guess she would scream and run away!!
The poor workers will have to put everything back.
Let’s just appreciate the cashiers patience with all of this 😂
That’s her job sooo
Lol because the camera was there
I signed up for a couponing class years ago. They told you everything about it except where they get the coupons from. People were asking but they kept avoiding the question. Eventually they said "coupon clipping services", you pay for the coupons! I'm sure you save in the long run, but you're still paying for it
They probably didn’t want to tell y’all right away
How is this still possible? In the Netherlands you would never be allowed to use this many coupons at once, exactly to prevent people from buying half the store for a penny. Shout out to cashier Penny btw what a trooper :')
It's not permitted in any area of The States either that I know of. I honestly think the show had some kind of arrangement with the store to waive the coupon fees because the rest of us would never be able to do anything even close to this.
One thing I’ll never understand watching these is how do these customers have the stores actually pay them when using coupons? Also any coupon I’ve ever seen had a limit of how many uses per customer. So I wish I could understand how this works
You have to read the coupons more carefully because it states 1 coupon per purchase meaning that item ……. Some coupons say one coupon per household same as you seeing one coupon per customer but not all coupons say that probably only 1/4 or less coupons say that. There are coupons saying only 2 like coupons per transaction nowadays but I guess sometimes even that doesn’t matter depending on STORE policy….. meaning you can over exceed and use more like coupons per transaction
Me 2 couldnot understand .
This show is about a decade old. Back then, coupons didn’t have limits on them.
Coupons have changed in limitations likely due to people like this. She's not doing anything wrong, cus stores don't really lose much from 1 or two extreme couponers buying thousands in stock and spending pennies to the dime on it- that's a rare case compared to the hundreds of other customers that bring them way more money in a day. And if the store provided coupons then she's got every right to cash them all in whenever she wants, but it was probably hellish for cashiers to scan extreme couponers out. now there's limitations on coupons. but sometimes you can still find some without limits and you just have to read the coupon very carefully
This show breaks a lot of rules. This isn't normal coupon use.
I never minded about this, until the pandemic. I was behind a lady that was absolutely hoarding items. They refused to sell her multiples of everything, and then when she kept yelling they finally told her to leave. Empty handed. 😌 as for this lady, apparently they live off of cake mix, cookie mix, and candy.
Does she look trim and healthy?
She doesn’t exclusively live off of cake mix and candy, it’s just that this is the only type of food she can buy in bulk fruits and vegetables shouldn’t be bought this way because they go bad
i grew in a poor house, i have the utmost respect for this woman. my mother was not at this level but had be smart about any purchases.
Ya but this absurd her obsession has turned into greed and hoarding
You need new role models
@@vidaacheampong2563 Well if you do not have the money to buy, are not the stores greedy and hoarding? Why do people do not talk about that? The stores stock up and have a lot of inventory, why can't she?
i feel like some of y'all are hating tbh
im actually really impressed with her dedication and how much she saved. It is a bit extreme (hence the name) but I'm pretty sure its played up for TV. I doubt she spending 60 hours _a week_ doing this. Realistically she might do this 3 times a year and have a revolving pantry and just go to the store for little things that she runs through quickly
I am SO glad that most coupons now have a limit of one per customer.
Because people like her were taking advantage of the situation so now everyone losses
She's basically 8 people so..💁
As much as I love saving money, this is just another excuse to be a hoarder
All of her items are clean and organized, just like everything else in her life. It looks like she uses stuff and gets more in, but keeps a bit extra.
I, personally do this. I have 5 of the big bottles of dish soap at any given time and 5 big containers of hand soap refill. It could last me years, but when ine gets empty, I get another one at the store when I see it cheap.
She enjoys doing this and as long as she isint hurting anyone or annoying anyone I support her
The cashier looked annoyed & her friend wasn’t smiling at the end😂😂😂😂
Props to her, hopefully she donates a lot of that haul bc there's no way her family could go through all that.
If she put this much energy into something that really mattered she’d be a billionaire
Dude who cares
She doesn’t have to do something that matters for other people if she doesn’t wanna, if she wants to do the thing with the coupons she can, so stop judging
Only if you had that much energy
Low energy

I can't help but feel sorry for the workers who have to deal with all those coupons and the customers that where forsed to wait for all those coupons
she literally has a large amount of the perfect things to have to start a homeless shelter, I really don't understand why she would rather just stock them when she will never be able to use all of these before they expire and imagine how many people she could help with these things especially the diapers.
If only this lady devoted her 60 hours to healthy eating & exercise then she could spend quality time with her friends & family
Why all the negative comments? I think it’s great she can do this. I know a couponer and she donates everything she gets to families who have house fires and those in need.
U can no longer coupon like this unless u want a house of junk food. I know. I do it.
.55 for $640 worth of groceries? This woman is a legend
This woman does not have a life.
She has some skills and brains
if she donates this stuff/ gives it to friends this is actually such an iconic anarchist moment because u KNOW those corporations are shaking in their boots at what she got away with
So when does she clean her home or be a mom. I am all for saving money but this is ridiculous
Not to be negative, but I hope the supermarket has a special checkout for couponers so that other shoppers aren't kept waiting in line for ages and ages on end.
Too true. She kept talking about being stressed. If you want to see stressed, look at the cashier’s face. And the people in line behind her. I’m not dissing coupons, I use them myself, but there is a Big difference between being thrifty and being obsessed.
Nope, I have been in line behind them...
5hey dont. Other shoppers use other lines
This is why I like the digital coupons. No one has to wait forever.
Do they not realize that food expires
honestly nobody is allowed to do this, TLC makes this seem like its possible, but every episode of couponing has a store manager there to monitor everything...its absolute b.s cause im sure everyone would be doing this
A lot of these episodes were filmed several years ago, when store coupon policies were a little more lax. Now the rules are for coupons are a lot stricter because of people like her. Also, there's no way a store manager would take the time to jump through all those hoops for one customer who's going to pay so little to the store.
yes they are she did it fir like 10 years
@@blugreen123 it’s because he’s on TV
Everyone would be doing this? dedicating 60 hours a week to the most tedious job in the world? No thanks. You couldn't even pay me enough to do this
People are too lazy to go that hard for some coupons
0:39 How convenient that ladder was there
If she can do such a great time management for her couponing, she could probably get a job somewhere, making more money because of her organizational skills and then she wouldn’t have to spend so much time looking for savings on coupons. She could actually then buy products that she really wants as opposed to just items that happen to be on sale
The emotional labor from these cashiers... They deserve a raise.
This show is from like 10-12 years ago which is why she could get away with it. Also it’s because of this show that majority of grocery stores changed their coupon policies to limiting how many you can use a transaction. So couponing is pretty much ruined for the average consumer.
I knew I saw this all those years ago lol yea I believe you can’t do this type of extreme couponing anymore
I’ve heard of worst addictions, this ain’t bad. I use to be a cashier, I don’t mind couponers at all. People like her helped the time go by faster, plus ain’t nothing wrong with saving some money.

as a cashier this is terrifying
i’m already terrible at math
You can also save money by not buying what you don't need.

there are several couponers that I started watching on RUclips years ago when I started. anyone can do it. you don't have to spend 60 hours a week. Walgreens and cvs have deals every week that are enough for a family. this example is extreme.
