Do you ride in winter?
I got these last winter for my radwagon 4 and as soon as I touched a bit of pavement the chains shattered! So unless you go off roading on packed snow or ice you might be fine but if it's half ice and half pavement, you will be wasting your money.
Very interesting. Did you reach out to the company?
I do know that on paved ground we found these to be very slippery.
@@EbikeEscape no I didn't. I just think they are made for a specific terrain and I mostly ride on paved roads and rad doesn't offer a knobby tire nor can you find a studded tire in that size from a third party.
Good point! They look like aluminum. Then again they look like their easy to remove, so maybe leave them off when on various surfaces?
Could be studded tires are the way to ~fly~ in the winter.
That's exactly what I was thinking is that they would be dogshit it would be better if they just used cables instead of the chains and ran surgical tubing or something over the cables surgical tubing might not be ideal but that stuff is pretty resilient and grippy and cables will Flex better going across the top of the tire
@@RobertMcClureyou should go with removable heavy duty zip ties and surgical tubing it makes for good knobs you don't technically have to use removable zip ties and you can also just get a kit like this one and the video is talking about and remove the chains and switch out to cables and surgical tubing to give you deeper knobs that are grippier and more robust for the main pavement and rougher harder to Reigns
Nice vid. I was looking for a solution for winter riding. The helmet was interesting as well.
Looking to get these for my own bike. I used a Bafang motor kit to convert my Shwinn Fremont bike to electric. Gonna use zip ties for a quick fix for now, but these look pretty nice for long term
Wow sounds great !!
That looks like an ideal DIY project. Save $$$
Great information
Glad you liked it
The Bell Scout Air is the first helmet I actually like. Never imagined I'd say that about a bicycle helmet. The visor is really nice for rain/snow/wind.
Yeah i really enjoy it, just the darn sizing is not great.
@@EbikeEscape Too small or too big? My head size is (apparently) “pumpkin” so every helmet I’ve tried was too small.
Hello thank you for the video I have a few questions related to this product. How would the riding studded tires on a fat ebike be during the summer will the studs be a inconvenience? I'm asking since I don't want use two sets of tires because of the rear hub motor as you mentioned or remove the studs and have dirt in the holes during the summer. If riding studded tires during the summer is not worth it do you personally recommend the Slipnot Traction Chains as a good alternative?
You'd definitely want to remove then. These are a great alternative but they feel less grippy than true studs but way better than no chains.
@@EbikeEscape thank you for the reply. I'm enjoying the content on your channel wouldn't have found out about this without you there not a lot of reviews that cover this product on RUclips.
Have you tried the bakcou snow straps? Thinking of getting them but not really any reviews about them
So I am starting early. For winter 22. However for a fat bike 20 inch x 3 inch wide are there studded tires? Chains I will probably order due to it still being sold out till Oct 22.
I have not been able to find anything for that small of a tire. If you are feeling ambitious, you could drill and stud your own tires. -JT
I appreciate the ability to put them on & take them off. However two things that get me are the slippage @I’m seeing, and the conditions they do not work on which is a dangerous hassle to be scanning every piece of the road. How do we maneuver without having to stop continuously saying oh man’ that almost cost me an injury as well as damaged my bike.
Do you know of any product that is like taffy so these concerns are addressed?
I think studs would bite a little bit more into the ice. In my opinion, some of this ice was a worst-case scenario situation. We might also play around with other tire pressures.
Bicycles are not the best snowmobiles, obviously it takes more skill to ride in winter. The chains look suffice to me.
id say a cable set up would be good
zip ties for winter bicycle riding?
Sounds like a good option to me! We should have done that as a comparison.
from the video they dont seem to provide much grip.
They add a decent amount when on ice. But did lack a bit on other surfaces.
1 day before spring you tell US!
Sorry James - we've been busy. We wanted to get it out earlier as well. Guess you'll be ready for next season.
My tummy tickled and i was scared when he used the motor to speed up on the ice and braking 😂
Does not appear to help in a turn.
This was definitely a worst-case scenario for these chains. I think studs grip a bit better into the ice but traction is still improved with the chains - they just don't bite as hard if that makes sense.
JUNK!!!!! Purchased on this review, and they are in scrap yard today...1st they did not stay on, so needed to glue together...2nd, and most important, the chains wore off within a week...with pavement and hard pack snow dont bother...waste of 150 dollars..sheesh...maybe for cave man bikes with no power they may work...again, JUNK!!!!!
Good video dudes.
I see some unsatisfied costumers in the comments, thanks.
Just shopping, I think I need a bike with some good rubber.
Good rubber or even studded tires might be a good option.
