- We're delving deep into the 2024 Kenworth W900 in this video, a legendary heavy-duty truck that has stood for years as a testament to American trucking greatness. We'll look at how it compares to competitors like Peterbilt and Freightliner in the dynamic trucking market, as well as its time-saving design, outstanding performance, and customisation choices.
The 2024 Kenworth W900 honours the company's tradition of excellence, dependability, and innovation with pride. In the transportation industry, Kenworth has gained its legendary status since its founding in 1923. The W900 distinguishes itself from rivals like Peterbilt and Freightliner, which have adopted more contemporary and aerodynamic styling in recent years, with its timeless long-nose design and distinctive grille.
A strong competitor of Kenworth, Peterbilt produces vehicles like as the Peterbilt 389, which is renowned for its sleek and contemporary appearance. Freightliner, a part of Daimler Trucks North America, is a competitor with its Cascadia model, which comes equipped with cutting-edge safety features and technologies. But the Kenworth W900 still has that ageless, rough character that makes it appealing to people who like that kind of thing.
Beneath its classic look, the 2024 Kenworth W900 is packed with amazing features like many configuration options, strong drivetrain and suspension system, and powerful engines like the Cummins X15 and PACCAR MX-13. This truck stands out from the competition since it can handle huge loads and still provide a comfortable and smooth ride.
The roomy and pleasant cabin of the W900 is ideal for long-distance drivers. It guarantees an enjoyable driving experience with an ergonomic driver's seat and an easy-to-use dashboard arrangement. In order to satisfy a range of consumer tastes, Peterbilt and Freightliner also place a high priority on driver comfort and provide distinctive interiors.
Truck manufacturers place a high premium on safety, and the 2024 Kenworth W900 is no exception. It has cutting-edge safety technologies including blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and collision mitigation. Similar safety features are also included in Peterbilt's 389 and Freightliner's Cascadia, giving drivers the resources they need to drive safely.
Another standout feature of the Kenworth W900 is its customisation options, which let users tailor their vehicles to suit their own requirements and tastes. Additionally, Peterbilt and Freightliner provide customisation choices so that their vehicles meet the specific needs of owner-operators and transportation firms.
As the trucking business develops, environmental issues gain prominence. The three truck manufacturers, Freightliner, Peterbilt, and Kenworth, have all made progress in lessening the negative effects of their vehicles on the environment. In order to meet sustainability targets, this involves developing cleaner, more fuel-efficient engines as well as investigating alternative fuels and electric powertrains.
Beyond environmental concerns, the trucking business confronts other difficulties, like a lack of competent drivers. In an effort to retain skilled drivers and increase the appeal of the profession, manufacturers are attempting to improve driver comfort and experience. This entails incorporating cutting-edge driver aid systems, providing cosy sleeping accommodations, and enhancing interior ergonomics.
In a competitive and changing business, the 2024 Kenworth W900 competes against rivals like Peterbilt and Freightliner, representing a great tradition of American heavy-duty trucks. Every manufacturer contributes their distinct qualities to the market, meeting a range of consumer demands while maintaining the industry-defining reliability, performance, and quality requirements. The
Kenworth w900 is simply the most beautifull truck on the road! ❤ long live this legend!
If I could afford one, I would get a W900 with a manual transmission. I am a fan of the classic design.
if you look at it as a long term investment they're actually more affordable then any other truck out there and with a better resell value than anyother truck out there, it's not pete
Im workin on finding one myself. 13-18spd cat w900. Hope i can get my down payment saved before its made inconsequential.
I'm waiting on the automated 18 speed.. these old knees can't shift like they used too
Peterbilt just bogged down with the 379/389…just because of aero dynamic. Glad kenworth kept the last square body alive.
Yes
i still see the long nose pete's but those must be the old ones if your saying KW is the last square body alive.
The only did it for the 100th anniversary model you see here and it limited numbers. They are all sold and they don’t make them anymore. W990 and T880
I got one of the last T800. Production stopped. Walk into a KW dealer and try to order one and they will chuckle and then try to tell you the new model is better to get a sale.
Thi biggest change is no change. Miss those yellow motors though!!!
Apologies Sir, but you missed the second most important point. (The most important being not crippling ir killing or becoming crippled or killed.) That is, how long will engine + transmission + balance of drive train last? Why does everyone seem to gloss over this?
Stated differently, are any of these trucks good for 10 years and 1.2M miles of long haul?
Really folks, leave the cool looking trucks to the blubber-bag slobs we see all around us. For actual thinking men, what are we paying $220K in exchange for? 4 years or 480K miles, whichever comes first, and PACCAR Lease owns the residual value??
This ain't a good deal.
I wish Freightliner was still making the Classic XL
It still ain't no Kenworth!

Exterior from the 70s, interior from the 90s. You're right - it is SHOCKING that this "timeless design" is being offered in 2024.

If it ain't broke, why fix it? I drive an Australian model kenworth which is slightly different and I'll take the old outdated over a European truck any day, more comfortable with a manual transmission in the kenworth
That´s what they usally says until they drive a Scania 770 even an old one...

After 46 yr's in the buisiness I owed 4 KW 900's the last two being 900-L's...flat glass...side vent windows... 60" flat top bunks. Not once did I ever regret my choice of these trucks. Everything now days is shaped like a "Turd" with nothing even close to appealing with regards to looks as well as ease of repair.
I've always liked the W900s especially the 73 through 81s

I thought you where going to tell us something shocking, like they fixed all the rampant problems with the MX13, or put alloys in the frames so they don't rust out in 3 years. I would have settled for they now are using a higher quality parts in the DEF system to remove the problems the government put in trucks.
They didn’t change anything they just made it $100,000 more expensive
Kenworth is making a HUGE mistake discontinuing the W900 series.
They aren't going anywhere.

I definitely want a W9 and I'll retire with it and keep it as well.
I can't look at trucks no more I mean ever since they did way with the cabover a truck is not a truck no more
I have a W990. Long hood look, modern inside, can stand up in the cab, plus larger & wider cab than 900. 565hp, 1850tq, 18spd manual. Blow by the low powered fleet types on the hills. Stepdeck & Flatbed drivers rule!
This guy took forever to say that they’re not changing a darn thing, my goodness getting sick of the Clickbait man
I have drove square pre emissions trucks and newer emission trucks. The emissioned aero dynamic trucks do great empty. Once you put a load on, it goes down to the same as a non aero truck. Fuel savings get eaten up with DEF and down time for emission issues. I’m not saying one is better than the other. I am saying they both have their pros and cons.
The W900 is my choice as the ultimate big truck. “Large car”. I put over a million miles on mine. 🤠🥇👊🏼🇺🇸
I like that extended roof you show in some images but now i wonder if i can get the bunk extended in there or if its just a hollow shell
It's a shell over the middle hight roof
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. My dad has owned Kenworth w900s since I could remember. He does complain that they no longer have cats. But our family is Kenworth through and through
Nice truck, but it’s still gonna have all kinds of problems with the emissions and depth
Make it an Glider
U can make it Glider/ Reassembled
Emissions aren't really that big of a deal if you learn about it and fix it yourself. I've been through my 2014 Mack and haven't had any significant downtime for it.
Downtime is way more expensive than the parts.
So where the SHOCK part come in??? 🤔
Glad they kept the W-900 look always loved those trucks💪

Love the 5&4 on the road for 30 years.
Talking about Kenworth like the T680 doesn't exist
I thought they discontinued this for thr W990.
I guess the W990 isn't selling like they had hoped.
I like them both but I think the W990 would look better with round stainless breathers on both sides instead of that plastic aero stuff
Well u have to buy 589 peterbilt it still has breathers 😊
The new metric cab is shit. Noisy, unconfortable, nothin where its supposed to be.
The w990 looks like a toy that didnt get any trademarks so just mixed em all together to make a generic "American" truck.
The W990 looks too much like a Western Star. Glad they're keeping the W900.

One guy in the other comments was highlighting the fact that this used disk brakes! Seriously? Might as well boast that it uses electric start and not a hand crank ha ha ha
@@TRPGpilot you are an idiot, they don't use conventionals in some countries because they are basically outlawed by regulation. OldNew look nice design
The Kenworth W900 has looked similar since 1961 but its a quality truck but its strictly meant for American highways ONLY despite being not very fuel stingy riding rough they are not bad trucks if you have been around them long enough.
I don't profess to know everything about big rigs but lately on RUclips there have been number of videos or channels giving incorrect information about trucks and trucking or in this case this person is not familiar with American trucks. " What's so shocking with the 2024 W900L"? It still looks like the W900L from the 90s'. I prefer a W9 over a Pete But I feel Kenworth could show the W9 some "Luv" and give it a make over. I always wondered why Kenworth never made a W900B with an extended hood.
W900B at a technical level applies to any W900 made with the B-Cab (They've been W900Bs since 1982), so all W900Ls (extended hoods) fall under the category of W900Bs.
Yes you're correct the W900B was introduced in 1982 the cabs share a lot of similarities . The W900B had a wider grill but shorter hood. And the W9L introduced in 1989-90?. Somewhere in the mid 90s the W900L got the Aerocab with the slanted curved windshield and a longer hood but narrow grill.@@DMTruckSpotting
@@SIMON26ful So you’re basically saying you want a W9L with a wider hood?
They do have a W900B with an extended hood, it's called a W900L... lol
And they did give the W900 a makeover, it's called a W990. You don't seem to know much at all.
all usa Trucks are great
Maximum profit, minimum drivers comfort and satisfaction !
Looks to me like it shares the same basic chassis and cab with the 589 Pete just different doors ,nose and dash. Heading in the same direction as mercury and Ford or GMC and Chevy just a trim package.
Complete different cab.
Not quite, the W990 is the one that shares the cab with the 589.
DAF is PacCar but Euro trucks do seem built more for driver then US ones
Same as Ameican Fords and Euro fords, night and day difference.
European trucks are better served as regional trucks. I wouldn't want to live in one for weeks at a time..they aren't roomy at all.
Kw and peterbuilt went to that single windshield design
My trucking company has sold off all their w900s. They had nothing but mechanical issues with them and the drivers didn't like them.
Nice jade truck I work on them
Why would someone want to spend all that money buying one when we are supposedly going electric soon??
Not going electric soon. The Tesla does not have a bunk. No good for over the road. Not to mention no place to charge.
Electric only good for day. OTR is totaly controlled by the 14 hour duty 11 hour driving a day. 70 hours total over 8 days.
There are no chargers at any of the truck stops. No chargers at the rest stops. No chargers at any parking place.
The only way electric can currently be used. Is from company terminal to company terminal. They keep putting out how the Tesla did 1,000 miles in one day.
That is with 2 drivers, stopping at a company terminal with charger.
There is not enough time on the clock to go that far in any truck with one driver. It is nothing more than a publicity stunt. Not possible in the real world.
BRING BACK GLIDERS
Why would Kenworth and Peterbilt be rivals if they are both owned by the same company; Paccar?
I just want to say one thing, W-990. They tried , it bombed. So now they talk about the timeless W-9? There's no reason to choose a Kenworth over a Pete.
Emissions destroy the engines and is nothing more than a money maker when the DEF break it cost $6k plus to repair
They keep that same damn interior they wont change it for nothing.
Was this a video about a completely unchanged w900 or a video about everything else. For anyone not wanting to waste 10 mins this is the all old kenworth w900.
I can not say that no improvements have been made to W900, but very very little, yes the w900 is stuck in 1970's in 80% of the truck body, Kenworth is working more with 600 series on better development and multi changes and that truck is a leader on USA market now, ride is great and fuel economy too, the interior is re-done and got even more options now, and w 900 and w800 are stuck up classics that is all. Truckers do buy them for the look, all the other stuff do not matter to them. TH
If that is what is 'market leading' in the USA it's no surprise that nobody outside of that county wants them when Scania, Volvo, Mercedes, MAN, Daf all offer better products that are sold globally . . .
Dear, bud, plz check it out the Kenworth w680 series , some trucks are build as the future product, other like w 900 stands still a little bit, hhaha ha.TH@@TRPGpilot

Both countries have trucks from all around the world, European, American, and even Asian brands. Kenworth has a strong and reputable name over here due to their simplicity, reliability, and longevity. Which is also why a large number of our heavy haulers, such as logging trucks, tend to be Kenworth's. As for styling, I personally love the classic retro design. I see American and European trucks sharing the roads and highways all the time, nothing draws my attention more than an old-school Kenworth.
