- Huge update from Tesla as they drastically drop prices of their most popular electric vehicles. The Tesla Model Y and the Model 3 Just got drastic price reductions. This could be the best time to buy a new tesla. In fact, I just bought another tesla and I think that it you should take advantage of these prices too.

The real question now is if ford will follow the trend and reduce the prices of their electric vehicles? The Ford f-150 Lightning has increased by up to $16,000. Now would be the perfect time for ford to reduce the costs of their popular Ford F-150 Lightning Electric Truck.

That's why me and the wife chose to order a Bolt EUV Premier Redline with sun and sound and also Supercruise for 37k can't get that with Telsa at the cheapest one
I started watching this channel when I was sold on the ford lightening when it was introduced. Now going on 2 years waiting, I decided to just buy a MYLR when the price dropped last month. Can't wait to get started on EV bandwagon, rented a Telsa S when I was in LA years ago and love the concept of charging and the ride was super fun. Ford will never build enough XLT to satisfy demand and the range is not acceptable with the standard range, need the extended battery which drives up the cost to around 80K, too much for my blood!
Hey Larry I watched your lightning videos before and now also going with Tesla, a used model 3 from Tesla. Electrify America is the #1 reason, market adjustment fees is the #2 reason against any other car new or used
Congratulations, Larry! You had to do this... Ford has to stay under $80K in the truck market. If they can even supply that market
Ford doesn't make money off it's electric lineup yet. Tesla does and Tesla makes good cars but they are starting to overproduce at their price point. They sell at a luxury car price but are starting to sale in quantities of a Toyota.
There's a reason you can't keep selling at the volumes Tesla is selling and keep prices up. You start to compete with your own existing inventory in the used car market.
Don't expect Ford to lower prices until they really ramp production and really don't depend on Tesla's holding their value like they did in the past. They're just making too many of them now.
Another great video!!!🥰
Thank you! 🤗 I always appreciate the kind words!
@Larry --- want my ordered XLT SR? It's being built the week of Fed 6. I don't need it because I bought a '22 Lariat in a (huge) moment of weakness.
Tesla employee hired back in 2012 was told at the time Tesla would focus on scale up for the next ten years. Then when they have massive economy of scale, put the screws to competition to grab market share. So, all the recent happenings are "part of the plan".
Traded the Lariat Lightning on a 6.7 Power Stroke Superduty, the Lightning is not ready for prime time, 150 mile and then charge ? I also cancelled my Lightning reservation. Cant travel out of the area with the Lightning.....
Yeah I agree, but there were a lot of cars ready to delivery on the service centers here in California. They had to do something to create demand. However, I got my Lightning delivered a week before Tesla dropped the price ,but even if I Have not get my ford yet, I do need a truck for my Dirt Bike & MTB hauling in Southern California.
Canceled my lightning reserve....
Got my email that my Lightning shipped, just got email from FMC to complete my purchase so I think it’s at my dealer 🎉
I'm a reservation holder, but Fords pricing and charging network is why I'm holding off buying an F150 Lightning... I'll keep my Tesla MYP and gas Silverado for now.
Also, you might want to note that the tax incentive right now for $7500 is to be filed in 2024 and only for liability. The point of sale hasn’t started yet. I typically get money returned when filing so the incentive wouldn’t apply to me unless I work with my accountant on withholdings. Thanks for telling us about Bearded Tesla Guy who explains it all.
Doesn’t matter what ford does. The dealerships will just mark them up.
Yooo Larry I recently got a 2022 ford lighting pro for 45k msrp originally was a test drive model and my ford dealership wasn’t gonna sell it but ford gave them permission to sell it at the end , and as soon as they posted it on Facebook I ran to the dealership and was the first one there and got it thankfully, I even canceled my reservation too. Iv heard of other people having the same luck as well . Keep a eye out on some ford dealerships on Facebook that have a pro to test drive only , maybe eventually they’ll end up selling it at msrp or close to it .
Ford likely looks at the lightning as a high demand item. They probably will keep prices up until supply starts to meet demand. Ford is a car manufacturer. But Tesla is years ahead on battery supply. It probably will level off though at some point in my opinion.
I ordered a Y the day they dropped the price, but canceled it this morning because my trade in S has fallen from $27500 in November to $17400 now on CarGurus and $14800 from Tesla. They were going to deliver the new Y to me by the end of this week, but since I wouldn't get the tax credit until next year, the loan payments would have been more than I liked.
I heard today that Tesla is close to filling up all the build slots through March, so the $7500 may become $3750 after that depending on when the IRS finalizes the rules, so I wouldn't delay ordering if someone wanted to get one soon.
Also the tax credit is based on the base price, not the price with options, so you could add FSD if you wanted, although I would not.
Bear in mind that Hardware 4 is coming out soonishly which will include higher resolution cameras and the new long range radar maybe in Q2. I know from experience that when ever you buy a Tesal, you will quickly be left behind when they upgrade to something new. My 8 year old S with hardware 1 is doing fine, but I do envy the new cars with longer ranges and faster charging that pull in after me and leave before, but all my charging is free.
They are putting the presses together now for Cybertruck and expect to begin slow production in summer and ramp up to full speed at the end of the year. All the initial production will be the quad motor and after that the cheaper versions. I expect all the prices and specs to be out before very long. Certainly before summer.
I canceled my Lightning the week before the build because the 230 mile SR wasn't going to work with my towing and the issues I have been seeing with CCS charging made me worry about leaving the Tesla network. Things may be different in 2024 if CCS gets better, or Tesla opens to other cars, so I will wait and see how Silverado and Cybertruck shape up in their mid level versions and keep my gas truck and S for now. Although maybe I will look at used X's
Hey, you don’t have to wait until 2024 to get tax credit cash- simply update your W4 to withhold $7500 less from your 2023 paychecks!
We put it an order for a MY the day I heard of the price drop. $7500 + MA state rebate of $3500 made the deal too good to pass up. Sooooo glad I waited (was forced to wait with fords antics and teslas old price hikes 😂).
Would've done the seven seater model but that disqualified it from the MA $3500, and couldn't justify paying effectively $7500 more for a third row.
Got it in white and will likely do a colored ppf. Or maybe just save money and go with a matte ppf. There's some time to decide.
Massachusetts has a rebate of 3500? Really
@@harveyy77 yes! The vehicle has to be under $55k to get it. But it was upped from $1000 this last November.
The build quality has problems ??? Not since 2020, the new updates are at level with German cars !
That's a completely unsubstantiated comment. Build quality is definitely up with current models, but the number of videos highlighting current QC problems with 2023 models hasn't dropped.
Have a 22 Y (ordered at Sept. 2021 price) so the main thing about the price cuts is there's hope the CT will be "reasonably" priced. Dual motor under 80K is "reasonable" for me.
Still prefer the truck. Just got my carbonized gray metallic Lariat a week a go. just noticed a pretty bad scratch on the roof passenger side close to the windshield. only noticable under certain lighting condition and my chargers latch came broken. make sure you take your time to check the finishes when you take delivery. Bring a flashlight to check for scratches.
Just wait prob like 5months
There are apparently a lot of Lightning res holders who drive TTs (“Temporary Teslas”) while in limbo awaiting Ford’s capricious scheduling. Big risk! The Tesla ownership experience, especially on winter road trips, is likely to make driving a non-Tesla EV a frustrating disappointment. Just saying.
Hi Larry, You may have mentioned this in a previous video, but what are your plans with your lightning reservation? I finally received my lightning invitation to order on Jan 19th, and with the increase in prices I ended up ordering a model Y on Jan 21st (I will keep it until my Fisker ocean arrives later in 2023). Just curious if I can sell my reservation or do I call my dealership to let them know I will not be purchasing a lightning any time soon. Thanks
Even ICE truck prices have increased. It must be something to do with parts required on trucks.
Larry, you're lucky you sold your Model Y when you did. My 5 month old Model Y just lost $13k in value overnight. My plan was to sell it when I bought the Lightning (scheduled to be built later this month). Now I will definitely will have to cancel the Lightning.
Oh man that stinkssss!!!! Definitely anyone who bought a y last year got screwed a little bit. I feel for you. On the bright side. I have a strong feeling the used market for teslas will eventually get back to where it was, when used teslas were selling more than new.
I hope you at least like your y enough to hold on to it!
Is there (seriously) a better new vehicle on the market, than a $36k (net of tax credit) Model 3 RWD??
I really don’t know if there is! The model 3 has decent range, plenty of tech, fast, fun, affordable. Last year was the year of the Y this year is the year of the 3
I think Tesla’s margins allowed them to lower prices and still make a profit. I’m not sure if that is true for Ford.
You're right. I believe I mentioned they should land in them middle, like reduce by 7k or so... I only say this because, both Elon and Jim pointed to parts prices as the reason for the price hikes. I am assuming (total guess) that parts are down at least a little for Elon to afford to drop the prices this much. Therefore, Ford (unless they suck at purchasing) should have a little wiggle room to drop their prices soon too.
Again, Total guess. But I can dream, right?
Even if ford dropped prices still can’t order one -_-
Congrats Larry! I bought a MYL on 12/31 with the $7500 discount and 10k miles charging. Not as good of a deal as today but still got a deal. Now I still have my Lightning reservation which I should be able to order early Summer according to Ford. But! Depending on the Tesla used market, I might lose money on selling the Y and to be honest, the Y is amazing and I might forgo the Lightning until I can get a Lariat that isn’t $27k more than the Y!!! Yeah the Lightning is a truck but the Y has way better price and still super cool and fast.
Tesla is the safest car brand ever tested, Tesla is the cheapest car to maintain over 6 years. Tesla has the most efficient batteries. Tesla is the fastetiden accelerating. Tesla has the best software. And it drives like a dream !!!
It's not happening....
I didn't think anything would get you out of your truck before the lightning! Are you going to trade the X in for the lightning?
I hope!!!
Even if there were more charging stations I don't believe I'd be using it to travel. Charging at home for $.07/kwh I save money driving my EV.
Paying nearly 5 to nearly 7 times more per kwh at public chargers. If you can achieve 2/ mpk, you're paying 15.5 to 21.5 cents per mile. At current gasoline costs of $3/gal that's just 14 - 19 mpg. I got 54 mpg with my prius hybrid. Charging at home achieving the same 2/mpk I'm paying 3.5 cents per kwh & at $3/gal that's nearly 86 mpg.
I think the market on EV trucks really dictates the price in the end. I could see Ford lowering the price on extended range vehicles to meet the 80k tax credit limits. My issue isn't so much with Ford's pricing of the Lightning but more so Rivian which is extremely overpriced.
That’s a good point. Once ford ramps up they will monopolize the ev truck market and sell them at whatever they feel like….it would be great to see Rivian get to a point where they can sell at a lower price with higher volume. I hope it’s in their future
Larry those glasses look like they have a rubber band holding them together
Lol my wife hates them. I only wear them once in a blue moon. But I like them :)
Ford, just give us a long range model under 80k, pleeeaaaase
Well said. They really need to get these lightning prices back to where they launched.
Just drop some options, like the wheels or power tailgate, problem solved
Omg , tesla dropping prices and Ford incrising prices! Who on earth would buy a ford pick up instead of a tesla pick up ? Makes no sense 🤷🏻♂️
Fords EV production is too new, they said they are losing money on most if not all the ones they are selling and I believe it, that’s why they aren’t making barely any lower trims. I think once they ramp up production it would be more feasible
As someone who grew up in Detroit, surrounded by the US auto industry ecosystem, I believe Ford would have to use Hollywood accounting to justify their statements regarding losing money on their EVs. As of now, they haven't justified their statement, we just have to take their word for it. I don't.
why would ford drop their prices? they still have morons paying over sticker for a vehicle that cant function as a truck.
Just order another Tesla model Y 20k less and no dealer markup! 😃
Right!?
So tempting, found an xlt with 10k markup, so ridiculous
Im over Tesla
Did you get a delivery date on your Lighting ?
Literally 3 minutes into the video he answered this lol watch the video
