I love how long this review is and I appreciate your honesty on this film as well. I saw it more than a few times this month and I still think it's pretty solid. But other than that this review was fantastic and I only hope it gets better with the sequels. 💯

I think child characters can be children and scary at the same time, children are impressionable and a lot of times can be cruel for childish/non intentional reasons but damn this movie is NOT an example of this, it makes no sense imo

honestly speaking as someone who is neurodivergent, abby is probably the most relatable character in the movie at least for me. because yeah sadly the stuff that is pretty against her is sadly accurate like being looked down on for being different and some guardian figures just wanting to take advantage of the income that is intended to help with our disability. i'd even say she was probably the character who should have gotten more screentime. and hell her reaction to aunt jane getting custody is actually realistic, because i've literally felt actual panic when i even just have to stay in the same house as a family member who has caused me stress and trauma while everyone else doesn't understand my stress and just thinks im overreacting. so you saying aunt jane should have gotten custody over her, yeah i really don't agree with that i feel like she would have been the "yells at and stresses out neurodivergent child just for being neurodivergent" kind of guardian, at least we can tell she's comfortable around mike.
and as for that one infamous fort scene, i really didn't mind it on it's own but it should have had a different reason for being there instead of just being there for the heck of it. like, maybe having it be vanessa agreeing with abby because "oh well they never got to live out the rest of their childhood, maybe we could at least let them do something they never got to do before they died" or abby telling them "one of them told me they always wanted to do this when they were alive" cause then at least it would have a purpose to humanize the spirits.

Great video, it makes me happy to see people dare to criticize this movie. I really hate these dumb audience vs critics wars that cause fans to be extremely aggressive toward anyone who dares to have a slightly negative opinion of the adaptation of their beloved video game franchise.
Like it's fine if you didn't expect anything crazy going in and just watch movie to turn your brain off for a couple hours, but I used to really care about FNAF and wanted to see a movie that did justice to the games' strengths :/.
What Arcane taught me is that woth enougb effort put into it, you can get a masterpiece out of an adaptation of a mediocre franchise. I really wish people had higher standard instead of aggressively defending any adaptation that does the bare minimum and will end up forgotten after a couple weeks.
Seeing the reactions to this movie, I don't expect improvement any time soon unfortunately...

    • @anorak3334

People did still criticise it, and Scott and people who worked on the film have stated several times over now they're listening to the criticisms, and that the sequel will focus more on horror. In recent interviews as well, both Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Liliard stated they're excited for the sequel and that based off of the script they've seen, it's a big improvement. I know it's prolly still too early to say anything yet, but like if we are making judgements this early, which is also what you did here, all the actual signs we have so far.............
Also tf you mean 'bare minimum'?? It's still a pretty faithful adaptation, but changed up a bit to still actually make it it's own seperate thing, like what the books did.

    • @noirenard_
      @noirenard_ 28 дней назад +1

@@anorak3334 I don't doubt that Scott and the actor care about the criticism and want to make a better movie, what worries me is Blumhouse itself. With how much money the first movie generated it would be insane if they let Scott do drastic changes to the tone of the story, or give him more time and money to give the animatronic something to do other than standing menacingly. Blumhouse don't care about quality, so even if there are indeed improvement I don't have a lot of expectations for the sequel. Also I really doubt any actor would look at the script of an upcoming movie and tell the press that it sucks lmao. Rn we can just wait and see (not me tho, I couldn't care less about the sequel).
And when I said the movie does the bare minimum; I don't judge an adaptations quality based on how faithful it is but rather on how good of a movie it is. And as a horror movie, there's really nothing interesting about the FNAF movie. It's nothing but the most generic tropes imaginable, with character that go from being very boring to very unlikable. They didn't do anything creative with the animatronics, the set or how they revealed the mysteries. It's basically a very generic and cheesy horror movie...If it was the exact same but wasn't an adaptation of a super popular video game, literally nobody would care about it and the few people who saw it would say it was trash. It just get a pass because of all the fans who think that if this adaptation is faithful to the game, then it had to be a great movie.

I'm a fan of the game, I found the movie very mid. It didn't feel like a horror movie at all. It didn't feel like the video games at all, I don't care how much lore got dumped together. The video games were filled with suspense and you the secuirity guard doing your job. All the MC in the movie did was sleep on his shifts and dream about the ghost children instead of the suspense of watching the possessed animatronics on the cameras.

I'm really hoping with the next movie, they fix/work on some of things you Mentioned and Criticized. Like especially using the animatronics more and showing more death scenes or even better jumpscares. Also Definitely want a slightly longer run time too, Especially considering there's gonna be like 10 animatronics in it. I think we could get a really creative and horrifying death scene with Mangle. And even feature Withered foxy's jump scare maybe even have mike use that fact that he jumps to dismantle it. I'm currently half way through your vid, and I love it already so I'm hoping to see More content from You Def subbing. Tho one thing I do think it is fair for them to use a cheap jump scare considering the games But that's all.

I was never the biggest fnaf fan, approached the movie with a wary meh. That fort scene made my inner child so so happy, to relate to the quiet artsy girl who gets to meet her friends for the first time (who perpetuate the cycle of violence due to their own trauma, but they're kids, they deserve forgiveness and to grow out of it). It's my favorite scene, probably just bc I love the animatronics and Abby and pizzeria so much, and that for a short while, that group of (mostly murderous) outcasts made their own safe space in an institution that profits from funneling and processing them. My overall takeaway from the movie was that people in positions of power will keep the cycle going (its possible the writers didn't intend to parallel real life so much or have us draw that conclusion). We don't see Mike or Vanessa get a chance at a peaceful life, they're pipelined into a violent job by a coercive and intimidating system and the violent authority that benefits from it. Mike has no clue he's getting the systemic shaft over and over. Ultimately his guilt and the drive he has to protect kids is being taken advantage of, he's being used. Side note, I'm realizing Josh Hutchinson just likes to play asshole big bro who barely pulls thru, remember Zathura? lol

i feel like the sequel is gonna blow its budget super huge and forget to actually address any criticism
the first one was like godzilla where its all family drama and 30 minutes of the thing you paid to see
the second will probly be the same but with people getting paid more and more investors and more more more it made money theres blood in the water

Scott and people who worked on the film have actually stated they're listening to the criticism from the first film (and Scott's known for doing so, it's actually why FNAF came into existence at all), and have stated numerous times the sequel will have more focus on horror. Both Matthew Liliard and Josh Hutcherson as well in recent interviews, in time for when the sequel will start filming soon, have both commented on their thoughts on the script, and stated it's a big improvement
(Also with the first one, if I'm interpreting what you said here right...no? No one actually minded the family drama and background lore, in fact that's actually EXTREMELY accurate to the games and their lore. The thing here is ig just mainly that it's a shock for people prolly not that into it/well-versed with it, and who thought it's just about survivng murderous animatronics. Which FNAF has never once in its history been solely about.)

@@anorak3334 well its good to know that critism is being taken in stride, for the family drama bad part of my comment yea you got a point the games definatly were not just about the robots but it felt really rushed in the movie just how much stuff they wanted to cram in like vanessa and afton revealing their identities and somehow making time for mike's family drama and made the movie seem like a checklist of fanservice for deeper lore fans rather than the start of a longer adaptation or even just a single games story

I really agree with all of this. My FNAF loving friend really liked it and was glad it took a totally different approach from the games but I was kind of disappointed they didn’t do anything with the storyline that’s wrapped up in FNAF 6 (probably just because I’m a sucker for Henry’s monologues but shh). Honestly, I feel like the plot of Sister Location could’ve made a real spooky movie? I know a lot of people disliked that game and its confusing story but it genuinely spooked me. Michael Afton being some gruff guy on a hunt to find out what his father had done… yada yada. Why totally remove *the* iconic human character of the series, William Afton? Purple guy!! AND justice for Henry!!!
Also, multiple Jerma references… I know what you are…
