I'm so happy with you guys. I grew up with a racist father, or still am. It seems like he is right about everything, he was very good with mechanics and etc.. You guys prove it wrong. I really like you guys. You are so open. I showed my dad the a couple of videos of yours and my dad said these guys are cool, and you are smart and would like to hand with you. Anyways, my point is youtube videos could cure racism.
This is awesome man. Thank you for sharing this!
Nickhead87
I fail to understand your pessimistic view & closed mindedness 😳
Nickhead87 I think he explained it pretty well. Which part did you have trouble understanding?
Can you guys please react to some frank zappa cosmik debris does humor belong in music excerpt.please.
plz react to logic 1800 plzz
The “black” album is like a gateway drug into Metallica for those that aren’t naturally metal heads. Great from the 1st song to the last. 🍻
I totally agree
7 year old me agrees
First metal album I listened to 14 years ago. (I’m 22)
"Misery" is the Absolute Sh!t....!!!
Absolutely
The last verse answered what the song is about. “I’m you. Sad but true”
All those things are you.
Best line in a song with phenomenal lyrics
I was just about to say that
@@mistersunshine1330 Another great All Time lyric is the last line of Black Sabbath's Fairies Wear Boots... Smokin and Trippin is all that you do 🎶.......yyyyeeeaaahhhhh!!!
Lars is laughing all the way to the bank
I think it’s the personification of evil within him, for lack of a better term it would be the devil. Controlling your every move and isolating you from others until it kills you. The fact that we are all being controlled by this force is what’s sad but true.
Yall Metalheads, you too deep into it now to say otherwise seeing how much yall love this!
With that stank-face when they jam metal? Most definitely metalheads.
The drum parts on the black album, as well as Kirk's solos, are genius. It's not crazy technical, it's slower than their previous albums, but Lars and Kirk were at the top of their game on this album. And James vocals, man, just wow
Imagine how good metallic would be if the just let any other thrash bands drum tech take Lars spot.
I hate to break the news....but you guys are metal heads. turn it up!
The transformation has begun! Lol
Praise the Metal Gods! \m/
'begun' my ass. You've already completed the transformation. Now you're just growing into the role.
Totally agree!
Lars catches a lot of shit for his minimalistic drumming, but it’s never anything more than what the song needs. No need to oversell it.
Thank you!! So true
Its not even minimalistic his drumming is very complex. Just cause he doesnt fill every 2 measures, doesnt mean he cant play complex patterns and rhythems!
First time I’ve ever seen someone get so hyped about it though!
He does!?!?! In my opinion metallica is one of the rare groups where the drums arn't some kind of background instrument. Drums almost always act in the background of a song, but with Metallica, it seems to me that the drums steal the show sometimes.
You guys gotta hear what we heard back in the day , Metallica was another thing live , faster , louder ,so much aggression. Proof is in the link below.

I'm a hip hop fan turned metalhead as well, you NEED to review HARVESTER OF SORROW. That song is hip hop lol groove is unreal
For sure
Same bro
He’ll yeah same
Guess my new name is “Groove”
Hell yes, that is such an underrated song. And some of Lars' best drum work
Lars has talked a lot about how he wanted the black album to have a groove to it with the drums, he also mentions during a 1990 interview how he was really into hip hop at the time. It's so cool to see how you guys note that real groove and hip hop feel with the drums. Love the reaction guys, has given me a different view of the song from your perspective. :D
@@Salomon_G It's the "bop" like George mentioned, that gives off a little Hip Hop vibe. Yes, it's also influnces by the simplistic style beats of AC/DC, but AC/DC had the groove with no bop. Sad But True has both.
For whom the bell tolls .. Metallica
g'dog hell ya
SECOND THIS
g'dog That IS a good one.Very heavy.
CLIIIIIIIIFFFFF!!!!!
100% this
Orion by Metallica is one of the best instrumentals ever made. Seriously give this a listen.
no
It’s great but that cold eerie metallic alien wintery wind feel that Call of Ktulu has is just incredible. As well as TL is TD
"Orion" is instrumental magic. And if you know the story of Orion, the hunter, then the whole vibe is so perfectly encapsulated in that song without a single word. The tough, invincible hunter, stalking his prey. The defender of his position from jealous, younger contenders. The provider of food and all the pu$$y back in camp that that attracts. Then repeat, over and over. Wicked.
Absolutely one of the greatest metal instrumentals. And arguably 3 of the top 5 come from Metallica.
Death - Voice of the Soul
For me, as a recovering addict, I’ve always thought the narrator of the song is my addiction talking to me. You guys are awesome!
Wow, talk about hitting the nail on the head. The first part is James' inner voice talking to him about addiction.
Hope things are well for you, you are stronger than you think. Rock on, Metallica forever \m/
Its addiction with depression and drugs
What I love most about this song is the fact that they let it breathe. It comes hard and fast and then gets dead silent for a couple seconds then comes back. It's so intoxicating and makes you crave it until it returns. So awesome! Favorite Metallica song!
Lars - "Thor with a hammer", Classic

The reason I love you guys so much is because you will literally listen to anything and give it a fair shot. Also, calling metal hot, hard, fly, nasty.... I like that. :)
Mr.Mister just. So ya know , Metallica : they about that woman.....
First line says it all: "Hey, I'm your life" meaning its your life talking. The only true. You can have your shadows, masks, lies, pains etc, but inner you, your life, it's always there. No different personality. Inner you. Yourself
That snare tone actually gives me chills everytime I hear it, same with the AJFA bass drum tone
You guys should give Metallica’s “Creeping Death” a reaction sometime 🙂👍
ohhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah!!!!!They MUST!!!
Oh yeah they do!
Yep, one of the best
That or For Whom the Bell Tolls.
yeah creeping death live at Woodstock 99
I agree with stopping and talking about each segment. It's a true review/reaction. I love your break downs and your reflections as they occur in real time.
We watch people react to our favorite songs because we want to reexperience the great feeling we felt when we first heard it
My wife said she would leave me for George. So George......I got my eye on you..lol
That’s funny 😄 love from Austin Tx♥️ stay safe and healthy out there
Music is the universal language. As a longtime metalhead I absolutely love going on this journey with you gents in discovering the music that has helped me though the hardest times in my life. Welcome to metal gentlemen.
Actually Lars sucked at the beginning. He wasn't really good at drums, but learned quick, to his credit.
Lars Ulrich finally getting some props lol, he’s probably the most hated drummer on earth.
Ok, he is the rhythm section of one, if not the, best classic metal bands... very unlikely that he is that bad, is he? The first 5 albums are carved in stone as a lagacy in musical history... and who did that drums? Yes, lars! And he did good... i wonder what the haters are good at... maybee not metal, i guess... otherwise we should have heared about you, should nt we?
@@tomwd.2825
They can't appreciate simplicity. I can't understand it either except for snobbish elitism that doesn't even respect who paved the way.
Because he's a narcissistic, cocky, 5foot nothing asshole, not for his drumming. Lol.
Jp Turner why?
Lars is not the riffmeister of Metallica. Neither the strongest musician æ. But without hes structure of doing things. Managing the band. Always on the phone. Specially in the early days. Puling strings. Making connections. James would probably end up in a basement band. Kirk would still play in Exodus. And Cliff would probably still live. Being a old music hippie teacher in the forest. Living day by day paycheck. But thrash metal without Lars would probably be an underground scene as Black Metal. Still good, but seen as an oddity from other than the fans. Still that would be a good thing.
where ever i may roam one of metallica's underrated songs.
Yes!!!!
Huh? It’s played all the time
I agree....that song has a very diffirent feel to it than most Metallica songs...
Yeah wherever is easily top 10.
This song is about your inner self. Your desires. That little voice inside your head that tells you to do some fu@£ed up s#it. That part of you you hide from the world.
Come inside, open your eyes, I'm you. Sad, but true.
Gor'eepy Studios Larz Ursinus those aren't conflicting views it's basically your demons James demons at the time were alcohol but it can translate to anyone's dark habits
Gor'eepy Studios Larz Ursinus how does that reply make any sense?
They missed it completely. Last lyrics... IM YOU
Its about the prince of darkeness pinheads in the comments.. its about Satan..
It’s about your subconscious
I LOVE the pausing. This channel is pure love..🙂
not for me.. always hated people who either skip a song right in the middle or pause it multiple times
The black album was the first that I heard on a CD. And when Sad But True paused for those 4 seconds and for the first time I didn't hear the scrats of the vinyl I thought that the CD stopped. Is the first song of the album that I loved.
Metallica: No leaf clover with the San Francisco symphony from the S&M album is fire
Its like an old song...new
Yaaaaaaasssssssss. Idk why this is never at the top of the list as one of their best albums
No lean clover deserves a reaction for sure
Historic concert also...Jason's last show as a band member
Metaphorically speaking, Sad But True is the constant struggle with your inner demons
Exactly
It’s about that and drugs controlling you.
@@lanemcdonough5565 its about blind faith in religion look up on google songfacts/sad but true
This song is about the evil things we do our us. Ours alone. Not Satan or some demons. It's about facing the evil in us and recognizing its us. Good old natural human indecency
I believe the song is about addiction. Its his inner voice speaking to him and influencing his thoughts and actions. Great video, you guys have a great chemistry.
Genghis Khan a person & their conscience.
Agree w/u 100%!
Yeah around this time the whole band was drinking vodka like it was water. I also recall them having "fun" with cocaine too back in the day. So this song is all about how addiction makes you take on a different personality, and how you hate it and yourself for it, but can't stop it.
I like the stipped down melody, feels like its a represtentation of the man the song is about. Stripped down to the bown. And the heavy drums just beats the message in HARD.
I always thought it was just the Faustian seduction and inevitable betrayal by the devil. I never thought about it from the perspective of addiction.
Genghis Khan this song is about how the real James Hetfield is not the same person you see on stage or out in public. If you dig around there's interviews where he talks about it.
the lyrics largely talk about James Hetfield the singer's alcoholism and how it lead his life
Also master of puppets
@@ibrahimkane MOP is about James seeing a heroin junkie and his dealer at a party.
This song is actually about religion and blind faith. Just fyi. I've been a fan of metallica for nearly 20 years now and own everything they've every produced. Trust me. However you are right that master of puppets is about addiction, specifically to cocaine. (Cut your breakfast on a mirror)
Interesting perspective. I always thought it was talking about one's conscience.
@GOLDBOND vs BALLS Hetfield has said this is what it's about, a film gave him the idea.
It makes me so happy that dude noticed the one little thing that I love about this song instantly 3:05. That little drum fill adds so much in my opinion.
One Instrumental song from Metallica that i would highly recommend is Orion which is from the Cliff Burton era. It's the closest thing to modern Classical Music.
I guess you aren't familiar with Wintersun's Time 1 album
...And Justice for All or Blackened get my vote, but an Orion reaction would be great too.
A7XinAfterlife try some Xanthochroid.
Orion was my childhood guitar lesson, for sure
its tough to chose between orion and call of kthulu
Hey guys. Completely agree with pausing the video for comments. It's a reaction/review after all.
It's been alluded to that James(singer) is talking about an addiction. It's widely accepted that the song is about the darker side of someone taking over.
It's so awesome you're reacting to more metal songs! Would love to see your reactions to anything by Rage Against The Machine. Keep up the great work!
Cool nick , inspired by a Megadeth song, eh? And cool Iron Maiden avatar as well ;)
I believe you're right about the addiction-thing.
Why not have the best of both worlds? ;)
Absolutely, react and pause, comment, give the reviews some life. I watch your videos to see what you guys thin.Good or bad. You guys have charisma, character, that is the shit that draws in and KEEPS your viewers. Keep it up. And more metal. I and THOUSANDS of others love to see your honest reactions to METAL songs. Keep it up bros, ONE LOVE.
I have also read the song is about addiction.
"We call it a bop" 😂😂😂😂 I laughed so hard at the commentary on this one. Love your videos.
Metallica??!! All i can say is they are legend!! They are true metal gods and metal genious...very rare of a kind truly ... i respect and truly loved them so much
Blackened - Metallica
The song is great but I've heard it a lot. So hearing your guys fresh reaction and enjoyment gave me real chills. Made me enjoy the song that much more again. Reminding me of why I loved these songs so much.
Myserieden Same here haha
That's what i'm here for, they remind me of the first times i heard these songs
exactly what i was thinking, u know whats coming and u just know ' U GUYS ARE GONNA LOVE THE NEXT PART'
Same here!! That’s literally why I’m watching these guys. I’m head banging right along with em.
Mr I watch the 46 & 2 vid. That was me the whole time.
I'm glad I ran across you guys! Love the free thinking. I'm actually thinking that I need to watch some of your hip hop reactions...I normally only listen to metal but if y'all can be open minded and branch out then so can I! Well done fellas!!👍
Love the reactions to the songs I know, it's like hearing them again maybe not for the first time, but through different ears or a new perspective.. and for introducing me to loads of new songs and bands. Keep her lit lads, the channel is fire!
You press pause all you want/need! That's the best part is when you press pause! Something hit you so good yagotta talk about it, and we want to hear about it! Yes, if it's good, hit pause and discuss (and thank you)!
Metallica - Harvester of Sorrow , via the live in Moscow video....
Best live ever!!
Good lads. Thst riff and drum combo is possibly one of the most satisfying sounds I've ever heard
I remember in elementary school singing the lyrics "Sad patrol" 🤣 yrs later I told a friend and his version was "Zap patrol"
Im never going to unhear that now...
My little brother used to sing Sad Patrol. Hand to god. That's funny. Mine was Running down a drain by Tom Petty.
I thought it was "Sex Patrol"
Me toooo i was shocked the first time i looked up the lyrics
Lol
The lyrics talk about depression, the singer embody that 'inner person' that is depression who constantly tells you that you are the guilty, the weak one, and mainly that no matter what you want or how you feel because depression takes over that and you end up obeying it (Ex: You're my mask, you're my cover, my shelter). So it's like depression itself who is singing to the real person, reminding him that he is not the one in charge, not the one who takes decisions on his life despite what he really wants, (Ex: 'i'm your life, i'm the one who took you there', 'do my work, do my deeds, for you're the one who's shamed'). It's a bit hard to get if you haven't dealt with that kind of issue, but it totally defines it in an amazing way (I've never heard a song explaining depression so well).
Not "Depression." You're close but not close at the same time.... ***Subconscious mind*** .. out of all the comments i've seen you are the closest with your statement of "Inner person". You however relate it to depression as a projection because you can relate meaning you are or have been very depressed at some point.. you're close..... But think deeeeper. And well written. Cheers.
Thanks i guess. Maybe 'depression' is no the full statement, but what do you mean then?
Naranjosaurus Rex, the singer has actually said he wrote it about addiction but also said that you can relate it to a lot of different things (like the ego, depression, etc...) since that is the beauty of music. I, like you, also related it to depression and the ego, so i don't think the band would say your interpretation is not valid.
I related to the song in that subject matter for a long time ( i find it to be a common theme)...But he states its more to do with alcohol...the part of drinking when youre the hole.
Naranjosaurus,
If you like the lyrics to this, you may enjoy Veteran of the Psychic Wars by Blue Oyster Cult.
I like how you guys make me fall in love all over again, with a song I've already loved forever.
Love the illustrative and dynamic commentary....Good Job Fellas. They way you two describe songs is the way I hear them.
"yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah" - ryan (really feeling it)
i'm a hip hop head as well and those drums do it for me
nightfall check out sevendust brother.
Classic, timeless, forever
myjciskate4 well said 🤘
The way I interpret this song is that he's done something really wrong, his conscience is speaking to him, telling him that the memories of what he did that are so mind blowing that he doesn't either realize or understand that he's the one who did it and he needs to own up to it, basically it's sad but true, it really was you, he did something that he couldn't imagine nor see himself doing, it took a lot of convincing and his conscience was laying it all out to him once he in a sense woke up and was like who did all this, and his conscience which is basically himself in a rational mindset telling himself "I'm YOU", answering the question, it was like his conscience confessing and then saying that he's describing himself.
Sorry for rambling but I believe you know what I'm saying with my interpretation of the song, I'm a longtime fan of Metallica and you guys are great at the reactions and your opinions of the music you review, keep it going and stay 💯
Glad to see hip hop heads understand, Metal heads mock Lars often. Yes he's a d**k irl, and yes he's no Gene Hoglan, but the man can lay down a groove. So many drummers in metal don't even have comprehension of the concept.
It's funny how the general consensus among metalheads changed, isn't it? I remember when Master of Puppets and ...And Justice For All came out and everybody raved about Lars' drumming. These days "Lars Ulrich can't drum" and "Kirk Hammett only knows the pentatonic scale" are jokes that have been driven to the ground. I can't fathom that there's people out there who honestly claim Metallica's playing sucks.
I'm a huge fan of Metallica (I even like St. Anger) and this is one of my favorite songs by them. Just because it's more mainstream doesn't mean it's not as good.
Ethan Cooke I liked St. Anger as well.... Your not alone 👍👍👍
2 people who liked St. Anger....you both are insane.
I like your results on the political compass too
I love metallica no matter what!!!
Nun Ya make it 3
Duuuudes! Just came across this channel and...well, you got yourselves a new subscriber ;-) LOVE to see open minded folks like you guys reacting to metal like this, so many people generalise it and dismiss it so good to see it getting some love, especially from the hip hop community (which I actually started off on before finding and living metal)! If you guys like this for the bop, check out their track Dream No More ;-) Peace!
I JUST found you guys, so I don’t know if you’ll be reading something from this far back. I LOVE your stopping to comment!!! You’re the first reaction channel, and I watch 2 others, that delve into lyrics as well as the music! As a singer songwriter and appreciator of absolutely all types of music, I don’t think enough people realize that especially in older music, the lyrics were equally as important to how they sang it, played lead on it, and gave it meaning. In the ‘70s, we used to sit in my friends basement and the album jackets always had the lyrics. We would listen to the music and then we would analyze what all the lyrics were about. It was almost like a book club in that way. And I never listen to any music since without being aware of how the words are portrayed in the music. Bravo to you guys! Can’t wait to hear more 🤗
Keep it up, you're doing just fine. Your musical intellect shines as much as the content. You guys and Whatitdo are my top two reaction channels
Don't change a thing fellas, there are times you guys comment at the worst possible times lol but its what made me a fan Its what you do so no worries.
Guys...I know this is a lot to ask. I have loved Metallica ever since it was first shown to me by my mom and dad back in probably around 98-99....well, I've got this special request. I'm fairly certain it won't get any attention, but you never you unless you try! I just saw your video on Holy Wars and me and my girlfriend love you, you guys are fun and intelligent and we think it's awesome how open you are to music....it's actually inspiring. My request is special, but I bet once people who like Metallica and metal in general see it, they'd agree. The video/song my wish would be to see is "The Thing That Should not Be" live in Seattle '89
You guys would love it...it's heavy, the text is grim and deep and the live performance makes the song incredible.
Bjarki2330 omg yes please
Great explanation on the need to pause. I really appreciate your podcast style. Thank you
You guys are FIRE. Your reaction videos are my favorite. Please keep doing them.
You guys should really do a Rammstein reaction... Just because

Just found you guys, have watched several videos, love the honesty. who knew I would like reaction videos?...i didn't even know what that was or that it was a thing...new sub here...good job
You guys are the best music reactors here on RUclips. I love the way you analyze the lyrics and talk about the melody of the music. Keep it up and more power for both of you. Request: Any song from the Ramones (how about some punk music huh?) Hehehe.
This song is straight up eargasm.
I’ve been subbed to you guys for a couple months now and this video is my favorite.
This is the most wholesome channel I’ve found on RUclips.
hi mama
Gregory Chri yoooo 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Yeah this is one of the far most songs I like to and rooster by Alice in chains
I love how you said you pause the music as youre receiving it. Like mana lol. Love what you guys do!
I think your commentary is thoughtful, insightful, and respectful. Keep doing you
I'm loving this stuff guys. I'm a metal guy, fell in love with it as a kid and seeing your reactions brings me back to the first time I heard those songs. I'd love to hear you review an older metallic song, especially Master of Puppets, Sanitarium, or In Justice For All. Bit what is really love to see you review is a Lamb Of God song. If you haven't heard anything by them yet please check it out. I suggest starting with Blood Of The Scribe, Now You've Got Something To Die For, or Ghost Walking. CHEERS!
It's about alcoholism that the band has struggled with through out the years
Pin this
Wrong. It’s about Multiple Personality Disorder
interesting take on the lyrics - never thought about it that way but it kinda works
I always thought it was supposed to be sung from the point of view of the devil
It’s ambiguous and open to interpretation
I seen alot of reaction videos but you guys are the best...funny, and real...and you both really listen to the music and lyrics...sometimes I just vibe on a songs melody but dont care to interpret what its about...you guys break down songs on the first time that I never did hearing it hundreds of times.
These Guys blow my mind with their honesty. It's amazing how they are reacting to listening to MetallicA and other band's.
Lars would love to hear your praise of the drums. :)
I basically scrolled down to look for that comment XD
same :D
ctrl+f "drum" for me
Thor Gram Lars a grest drummer. You go read the 80's metal magazines praising Lars as n1 drummer, in front o Lombardo. Just got easy and trendy to bash the guy.
That's just not true. I have friends who are professional musicians (including a drummer) and they are critical of him. They (and I) like the music but they say that when it comes to technical drumming, he's not very good. I have been a fan for 24 years. And I don't mind his drumming, but I'm no pro.
You guys put "Master of Puppets" in a whole new perspective for me.... Your great... Thx for Your uploads :)
the drums on the black album are so dynamic and powerful and i'm SO glad you talk about them. i know bob rock gets a lot of flak for various reasons but i believe he gets full credit as producer for the drums sounding like this.
I discovered Metallica over 35 years ago along with my metalhead friends. We pledged our allegiance to metal because of them never knowing "our" band would rocket to global dominance and last as a rock standard thru almost 40 years! Its awesome seeing u discover the band that was not only the soundtrack of my youth, but literally the voice of my generation and ur gen x angst. Yes they are awesome but more so they are truly gifted musicians that rightfully have a place in history for the musical masterpieces they create. Honestly im in awe of the talent in this band today, because as a teen...i just liked the raw emotion of the songs. But yes, ill be banging my head to Metallica till the day I die! Right on that you all have joined the club! Keep it up love your reactions!
Love the videos guys.. and I think James was talking about alcohol and substance addiction. Read it somewhere he was talking about his battle with his demons after going sober. More Metallica reviews fellas 🤘🏼
REACT TO DOMINATION PANTERA MOSCOW 1991 PLEASE

I second this.
The studio version is way better. Maybe thats just me, but nothing can compare to the studio version
Sean Collins fuck yes
yes yes yes
I love the pausing and feed back it's discussing what is going on bringing out the intricacies of the songs that are catching and a noted emotional impressions ..Very cool.
Love what you guys do. Never stop!!!
The production on that album is great.
Y'all don't need to justify your format. This is the 4th video I have watched so far and I enjoy it!
watching your videos is like listening to music with a best friend. Thank you very much
I like the commentary guys! Keep doing what your doing! Metallica rules!!
you guys have restored my faith in the music listening world...im an old ass drummer from the 80's so most of these metal songs i know....you guys rule...new sub here
Hetfield is talking about booze and his constant troubles with it. There is also the inspiration from a movie, but he is ultimately talking about his addiction to alcohol.
Graham McLaren got agree with you.
I agree with you guys, there's a lot of reactors that play through and rock out and don't really say much. That's fine, I enjoy them too, but really love hearing what you think as the song is playing and even going back to heard parts. Keep on rockin!
There's a song on "Load" called "King Nothing" that has a similar "swing and crunch". You'd LOVE it.
One of my faves
So fun to groove on while playing it. Simple too.
i never saw anyone talking about that song at all, weird couse its so good

Man the bass intro for Battery is F-ing sublime
I like that yall pause in the middle
From one to another. I absolutely love that you include "Free Thinkers" in your intro. Good on you :)
Love u guys! You are so open minded to deferent music! I love metal! And it's cool to see guys who like hip hop jamming to metal! So genuine!!!!!
Dude yes love this track, Master of Puppets is another one I would recommend by Metallica
Umm, Metallica Unforgiven please.
Love your point about being a review and not a jam session!! Great point!! If you don't want to deal with the breaks ,, then put the album on and jam out!! I listen to you guys because of your reviews!! Good job guys!!
I love you guys. Keep doing your thing for the fans!
