    I really loved disgusting. I like this one a lot too. This is a very different feel to me. The first album is very depressing, and upsetting, yet catchy. This album is very different sound, more about fighting back and not letting the "depression" and "hatred" get to you. I actually thought the lyrics were a big jump up in quality but I guess this part of my life I'm happier with myself and things I've done and I feel it's reflecting in these lyrics verse the dark/moody that came from Disgusting.
    Either way I can see why might be somewhat disappointing but the more I listen to it the more I enjoy. Hope ya feel the same!

    Disgusting was my favourite album of 2014 and so I was obviously really excited for this new record. Thankfully I don't feel the way that you do, I've only listened to the album a couple of times but I have really enjoyed it. I'm not a big metalcore fan as a lot of it sounds generic and boring to me but Beartooth's sound has always been something I have liked and I'm glad that they kept that sound on this record, even if there isn't tons of change. I also do like the lyrics and I loved them on Disgusting, probably because I'm still young and stuff (teen angst for the win!). Personally I think that Beartooth have come through with another great album but of course it'll never be as good as Disgusting for me (and I didn't expect it to be).
    Enjoyed the review though and I can see where you're coming from with the whole they're just making Disgusting 2 kind of thing.

    • @thomdotexe
      @thomdotexe 8 лет назад +2

      Yeah but they'reusing the same 3 power chords over and over for 90% of their riffs, same tone the litirally all of the drum patterns are the EXACT same in the chorus for every song except for aggressive. The breakdowns are a lot worse. tbh hated is the only original song on the album and even that still used the same power chord melody as in between. it's good but it lacked originality, the songs just seem like wash rinse repeats of the same songs as before....

    King of Anything is what puts this album at a 5/5. Yes, a lot of the album felt dry and repetitive, but look at the pressure being put on him to always be bringing something new to a genre that has very little left to be explored. King of Anything was kind of his way of saying "i don't care if you don't like it, i'm doing what i want to do because i didn't choose for you to expect so much out of me." That message alone just puts the whole album into perspective for me. This type of repetition is what comes from such high demands. He could've done something new like he did in KoA, but then he wouldn't be doing what the fans said they wanted(disgusting 2.0 as was said in the video XD).
    All in all, i'm not disappointed because Shomo is happy with his music and it doesn't hurt my ears.

    I have a problem wasn't actually about alcoholism. According to Caleb it was about Attack Attack ending and the references to alcohol were just a metaphor

    • @giovannisdesigns
      @giovannisdesigns 8 лет назад +1

      Thats what it means to Caleb. Anyone who reads the lyrics would think it was about alcoholism. A song can mean whatever it means to the listener. A lot of his fans have come talked to him telling him how that song helped them with their alcohol problem.

      +Giovanni Belletti I understand that and its fine if other people get different meanings, but that wasn't the message of the song. And in this review he makes it sound like that was the purpose

    I strongly agree with your review on this album. I loved Disgusting when I first listened to it and was really excited to see what they were going to do on their next record. All in all, I was HIGHLY disappointed by it. Just like you said, the production is what makes this record bad for the most part. Many of the tracks just felt rushed and generic with many of the songs having similar intros and guitar riffs from Disgusting. "Censored" in the beginning sounds similar to "The Lines" while the chorus for "Loser" sounds like the chorus to "Beaten In Lips." I originally wasn't a fan of "King of Anything" when I first listened to it, but after a few listens, it felt like one of the much better tracks on the album. Other songs like the title track and "However You Want It Said" seem to have choruses that sound a lot like an anthem, but they eventually grew on me as well. Overall, this record does seem like a Disgusting 2.0 of an album and I wish that there was more to it. 2.5 for me.

    I just heard the album and here's what I think, personally.
    Aggressive - 5/5
    Hated - 4/5
    Loser - 5/5
    Fair Weather Friends - 2/5
    Burnout - 4/5
    Sick of Me - 3/5
    Censored - 3/5
    Always Dead - 3/5
    However You Want It Said - 3/5
    Find a Way - 4/5
    Rock is Dead - 4/5
    King of Anything - 5/5
    ---
    I personally give it a 3 out of 5. Maybe it'll grow on me but for now, I'd give it a 3. I personally agree with you on this review and how Caleb just re-uses the same riff for most of these songs. It's a shame because I was quite excited for this album.

    Disgusting sounded authentic, powerful and breathing and almost tear-snatching. It was true to Caleb's heart, every lyric coming straight out of his very soul, inspired by everything he had to endure and suffer through.
    Aggressive sounds like radio rock. Like a metalcore band trying too hard to be relatable and also trying to be "hardcore" and edgy and miserably failing at it.
    (Caleb himself said that disgusting was his inner voice speaking and letting out his deepest feelings and thoughts withno back processing, and he said that in aggressive he tried to go with a more "general" and "relatable" approach to different matters the youth is supposed to be involved in)

    I agree with a lot of what you say. I was a bit dissappointed because I loved Disgusting. I love some tracks of this album.
    I don't care that he is trying to re-use his old style, but some songs just don't get me.
    I still love Caleb and I hope to hear a lot more. King of anything, Rock is Dead, Find a way and Censored are my favourite tracks of the album. I like them even more than some disgusting songs.
    Cheers, great review.

    This album definitely has a different feel to it, and the production could have been a bit better, but I feel as if the lyrics on this are stronger than the ones on Disgusting. In a way, it's gotten more personal. I'm not entirely dissatisfied with this release because I know Caleb cares about the music he puts out, and making an album isn't that easy. At least this album has a positive message to fight back against what holds you down. A lot of people with depressive disorders and other issues will connect to this album a lot.

  • @danh8359
    @danh8359 8 лет назад

    you gotta respect what caleb was trying to do tho. This album may be fairly similar to disgusting but when bands change their sound people complain ALOT. Its obvious he tried to move separate it from disgusting by using more clean vocals and a more punk-pop feel, but keep the people who wanted to hear the same as disgusting happy. All-in-all this is a good, honest review and I still think the album is up to par with their first but everyone has different opinions

    just got into Beartooth, and I love both albums and basically all songs. I do somewhat agree, as I think Disgusting is a far better album. but I still really enjoy this album and think its an acceptable sophomore release. it's no meteora, but it's still decent. let's hope that their next album will bring something new to the table while keeping some of their classic sound. I give it a 7.5/10 and disgusting a 9.5/10

    I feel like looking at this album as purely a follow up to Disgusting is missing the point of why the songs are the way they are. The album, according to Caleb, is written about his life leading up to Disgusting, though from the perspective of a person looking back on their life. Disgusting is fresh out of the dark period, and Aggressive is looking back at how he got there. He was in a different place when he wrote this, versus what he wrote while writing Disgusting, and yes, there was a different vibe in the studio, because emotionally, he was in a different place. Caleb's wasn't trying to make "Disgusting 2.0," he was effectively trying to make a prequel.
    People give "Loser" a lot of shit, and when you think about the whole "looking back on my life leading up to Disgusting" angle when you listen to it, you see it's not "pandering to his audience" in the sense that he's looking back at his younger self, the fat 15 year old that got torn to shreds by RUclips comments for doing what he loved, which combined with the fact he was incredibly depressed, only made him feel worse; he felt like the loser everyone said he was, and it lead to him do stupid, unhealthy things so people would accept him. Pandering? I'm sorry, but no, that would imply he's not being genuine, and he is.
    Yeah, saying all of this makes me come off as a huge fantard, especially when you consider the fact that Beartooth is one of my favorite bands, if not my full on favorite band. The album is just as potent as Disgusting for me, having been through a lot of similar things to Caleb at the age when he experienced them. Sorry +ARTV , but I can't agree what you're saying here. Considering the fact that your review of Disgusting was the reason I checked out Beartooth back in 2014, I'd say this review is probably my biggest disappointment of the year thus far.

This album was actually the one which got me into listening to Beartooth and is still one of my overall favorites in this specific genre even though I know it's got its flaws ... I have to admit that I didnt listen that intensively to disgusting yet but I still think Beartooth has its incomparable sound (something you cant tell about every band out there) ... Many of them just try to imitate others, whats so wrong about imitatig yourself, i think you dont allways have to reivent yourself but I guess opinions differ

Saying that he doesn't really care what you think that he's making what he wants and likes. I would like to point out that the song I have a problem isn't really about alcoholism it's about how attack attack was such a negative and detrimental part of his life that help fuel his depression he simply used alcoholism as a metaphor for this seeing as alcohol, pot, and video games where thing he used to escape reality.... Just saying some of these tracks could be very lyrically deep in the same way as that

    I strongly disagree. I really enjoyed Aggressive and I feel that it is progression for Beartooth's music. The lyrics shifted from the ups and downs of depression to a complete resolve to never go back to stewing in misery and to keep fighting 'till the end. The album can be a bit repetitive, but there isn't a skippable track on this LP for me. I am by no means an expert on production and what qualifies as "objectively" good production quality, but I enjoyed most of the riffs, drums, and Caleb's variations between screaming and clean vocals. My personal rating would probably be a 3.8 out of 5.

    i disagree with alot of this, everyone has their own opinion and different views. a couple songs yeah they're similar but the repetition is pushing the point. ive seen some similar things in life caleb has and i really relate to the lyrics but i can see what your talking about, but before you make too many judgements you gotta see em live and get in the mosh pit! its a whole different story man!

    I still really like this Record. Loser is annoying as fuck though. Lyrics felt like damn Limp Bizkit Lyrics. Disgusting is definitely better too.

    I LOVE Beartooth but I just don't like this at all either, everyone else seems to be liking it and I think it's just because it's Beartooth. An example of this is the new BMTH album, people only like it because it's BMTH. :/

    • @mem3198
      @mem3198 8 лет назад

      Jason LovesABR True on BMTH but all of the reviews besides this have been pretty positive.

      Mizter Meschie honestly yeah. i kinda even tricked myself into believing it was a lot better than it actually was just because they're one of my favorite bands. now, i don't hate this album but i just don't see myself enjoying it as much as any of the other music

    my biggest problem with Disgusting was exactly this, the same-ness, and this record makes it no better. The lead single was eh, which want a good sign, but Hated and Always Dead were great. There's some awesome songs and moments on here. Aggressive is such a disappointment. Lyrics are way worse. Songs just sound to same-y. 3/5 for me.
