I pass this bridge several times a month, looks very cool from the drone! Also appreciate learning a little bit of local railroad knowledge, since I'm not originally from around here. I was amazed to see the CP waiting there actually had a couple of the old cylinder hoppers in tow!
You're welcome Dustbowl! That CP had a long wait that day. Sounds like the UP is going to replace that swing bridge. That will be too bad. CP steam engine through Clinton May 9th.
Hey red that was one long eastbound manifest and that was awesome you catching the bridge closing but anyway, my friend another great video and as always you stay safe out there my friend and watch your back and we’ll catch you on the next one
14:58 Eastbound loaded autoracks on the *Clinton* and *Geneva* subs may be new Fremont, California built Tesla vehicles, and/or are Japanese/South Korean imports via Portland, Oregon. Excellent drone camerawork. 👍🏿 Cheers
Great video. They have a similar bridge in old Town Sacramento. They also have a tower bridge for the automobile traffic crossing the river so ships can go under. Two shows for the price of one. I should say three because of there fantastic Railway museum.
The eastbound UP mixed freight was fabulous! 180 cars plus 3 DPUs. It included a green box car, a CNW coved hopper and what looked like a heavy duty drop-deck flat deck car which were all awesome 😎 cars! 😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Good morning Red, a fantastic drone flight over the UP freight train. Great flight over the swing bridge, the river and the landscape. The second UP freight train and a great encounter with another UP train, excellent shots with the drone. Above all, crossing the bridge was fantastic. Thanks for the excellent video 💗💗💗💗👍👍😊😊and have a nice Sunday. Best regards from Germany Wolfgang
Morning Wolfgang, you're welcome! Flying around the Mississippi River is always a treat. That was my first motorcycle trip of the year👍 Have a good one!
WOW! That EB mixed sure was loonngg, even the mid-train DPUs were "mixed"! When the Mississippi flooded back in the late '80s or early '90s, the CNW bridge saw BN, SOO LINE, and Amtrak traffic, as their bridges were just barely above the safe water level..............it was interesting to see a CNW E8 or E9 leading Amtrak SDP40F units, as their signalling systems were different than CNW.
Long for sure Paul! I remember seeing videos of the flood detour. I think it was 1993. CNW had the prime route across the state. I'd say the UP knew that.
Awesome video Red, cool you live on the border to Illinois & the bridge closing over the Mississippi river was beautiful to watch. You live in a stunning part of the great USA Red. So much to see, loved the shots of the 3 loco train from the ground then the air then a meet ! The mixed manifest with filled autoracks was a long train wow. Enjoyed this production Red see you next time take care. ❤😊👍
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 oh its not that far! It's a beautiful area still quite local 😅 I didn't know the Mississippi flows through Iowa so I learnt something & that you have a border with Illinois, I'm still learning Red. 🤩

You get excited over CNW, I do over SP Southern Pacific on UP trains. I saw a box car on the bridge with newer orangish doors. SP is hidden under UP somewhere. Lol
Up till now I thought “Jawtooth” was number one but your drone footage is incredible and your narration covers everything without over doing it. Going to subscribe. Your land camera wasn’t as good as Jawtooth but you certainly have me watching now for the time being. 👍🏻
Never seen two engines in the middle of a long train before. I'm from eastern Ohio though. Not a lot of flat land around here until you get out west towards Columbus. WE are twisties and hills. No super long trains here. Actually about 2/3 of the track around here has been removed.
That CPKC crew had to kill a lot of time waiting to cross the UP. From the headend power I’m guessing it was a local possibility working its way south to Nahant Yard in Davenport?
Can you provide the closed caption? I also like to watch them on the grounds, too. The drone is also cool as well as your garage with the signals. Thank you.

Thanks Red. At about 13:03 there appear to be some bridge piers just south of the UP trusses. I wonder if this was a branch from the CB&Q that crossed the Miss. parallel to the CNW/UP ?

That would’ve been excellent to catch that Swing bridge opening for a Barge then the barge going thru then the bridge swinging closed and a train going thru. 👍👍 I wonder if there’s an Operator that stays in that Bridge shack or is it Automated & Controlled Off-site ?
I wish someone would save the old Clinton depot so it don’t get tore down but unfortunately I heard they are gonna build a new bridge and take that down
You took a a road trip on 13 April 2024 to Morrisson, Illinois, and Clinton, Iowa. Did you ride the bike or drive a truck? That was a nice catch of that eastbound mixed freight west of Morrison, Illinois. Was that the Acker Road crossing that had the Chicago & North Western System decal on the crossing control box? I am glad that you made it back to Clinton, Iowa in time to catch the Union Pacific seeing bridge across the Mississippi River close. I liked the drone footage of the swing bridge closing. The drone footage of the eastbound and the westbound Union Pacific trains crossing the swing bridge was great to watch. It would have been nice to watch the CPKC train walk through the switches in Clinton, Iowa to get to its own trackage with drone coverage. However, that was not possible because the drone battery needed to be charged. When I was the Membership Secretary of the Chicago & North Western Historical Society back in the 1980s, we had some annual meetings and Board of Director meetings in Clinton, Iowa. The Chicago & North Western Historical Society will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary in May 2024. The annual meeting will be held in conjunction with the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, Illinois. The Grand Opening of the Chicago & North Western Historical Society's Archives Building on the grounds of the Illinois Railway Museum will be dedicated on May 15th at 10 AM.
Almost 400 miles on the bike that day Thomas! Not sure on the road name, it was milepost 131. I would have caught that CP train but I didn't feel like riding back in the dark. All of those auto racks make for a good handling train. All that slack action feels good to an engineer.

Why are so many Railroad Bridges not painted to protect them from the elements? Highway Bridges are always painted as far as I know.
Some types of metal use the thin layer of rust as protection.
It might be Corten steel. Corten rusts initially which forms a protective barrier against further weather corrosion.
Iron doesn't need paint. Steel on the other hand is a different story
