Hello Red. A beautiful local railway, the BOONE & SCENIC VALLEY RAILROAD. It is very interesting, the UP Intermodal Container Train and CP with its Intermodal empty train are great. Very nice drone shots, also the UP mixed freight train with hopper and tank wagons, such long trains are simply beautiful. I wish you a successful week and best regards Wolfgang

They are called Tow boats not tugs. Average a horsepower is 6000 with duel turbos. Just like train engines. Keokuk just down river has a swing bridge Dam and Power plant with the K line running next to it. The KJRY runs East and West over the swing bridge which is Visible on Keokuk Stream Time Live camera.

You used the drone to obtain some god footage of the Boone & Scenic Railroads switch engine maneuvering around the grounds. I remember going to the Boone & Scenic Railroad as part of a Chicago & North Western Historical Society's Annual Meeting. I think that the C&NWHS t Annual Meeting was held in Marshalltown. We took a day trip to the Boone & Scenic Railroad. We took an excursion ride across the Boone & Scenic Railroad's High Bridge Line. The C&NW's #1385 steam engine may have pulled the excursion train. This would have been during the time in the 1980s when the C&NW borrowed the #1385 for publicity purposes. The trains that you caught at Montour, Iowa on 22 July 2024 were interesting to watch. That empty westbound coal train/manifest freight was an unusual combination train. It was a good thing that you were in Montour when it passed to record its passage. VERY interesting video. Nice to see the bridge open and close and the trains. Especially the Southwest Chief which I rode on several years ago for my first trip out west. Something I will always remember.

You need to get yourself a radar gun so you can check the speed on the trains. That coal/manifest was flying. Whatever the track speed is that one was doing it. Another cool video Red.

It seems to me very labour intensive and same for the machines. Network Rail, NR has machines that can do the same replace track, tyes snd clean and sort the balest, removing worn out and replacing with new and a following tamper, tamping to line speed, with very few workers. In the UK, we haven't used wooden tyes or as we call them sleepers for meny years on main, also branch lines, mainly concrete tyes and fixings (chairs) moulded into the concrete, when made. This made the track safer if maintained regularly. But we discontinued the use of spikes very early, and about 1840, the use of chairs holding the rail screwed onto the woden tyes, now fixed int the concrete ones. On well maintained track speeds of 125 mph, with upgading the West Coast main line could have 140mph. With freight at present running at 80mph. When HS2 is compleated, fraight is being designed to run at 140mph as well. I do admire you diesels, we near here have lage shunting US diesels and EMD class 59 at the same quarry and a lot of class 66, both approx 2500hp at the rails, nearlyall diesels have cab's at both ends. Red, this is your BEST video ever!!! I often watch Virtual Railroad camera in Ft. Madison so I am acquainted with the area (videos, not in person) but you provided another perspective of the area. I read that the main source of employment there is the State Prison. I was wondering if I saw the prison from one of your drone views? On your next visit I suggest you go a short distance past the RR station to the area where the crews change, I saw that area on another video. FYI, Ft Madison was named for a famous US President, James Madison, whose home place is about 50 miles south of my location, in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where my daughter graduated from the James Madison University. Again, another great video. Thank you for posting your Masterpieces. (I live in Hagerstown, Maryland).

The same day you were videoing the Kate Shelley Bridge back in September, my kids surprised me on my birthday with a trip on those electric assist Rail Bikes and like you said, it was a fun time pedaling halfway to Fraser, Iowa and back. My kids didn’t realize that Iowa got that scenic.

Last July I watch UP 5353 (the DPU on the coal-manifest go through Clinton on the CP Davenport sub as it went through ADM with that one ES44 and possibly over 100 empty bathtub gons

Good one Red! I guess you didn't have a chance to cover the Glidden UP derailment last week. According to the website article I read, a 17-year-old boy was charged with tampering with a rail and filming the derailment, the teen had set up a camera near the crossing just before the train derailed. Very weird to say the least

I lived in Prairie du Chien, WI, from 198t to 2019. Except for the flood detours in 1993 and trains from ATSF and SP, plus BN detours from their Denver to Chicago line, there have never been more than 40 trains a day on the Aurora Subdivision, bu actual count.

Great stuff! At 5:33 the coaches in the open on the left of the caboose are a pair of Illinois Central electric cab cars. How many times did you ever catch that local towards the end? Guess that must be one starting out of Mtown going east.

When we went on the boone scenic train we rode in one of the passenger cars. It was fun. On the first train where your camper is at 8:21 the top of one of the containers looked like it caved in ,or was open

Great videos Red , have been on the trains in Boone with nieces and nephew and friends plus many times alone. Did the steam locomotive once, dinner train also it was fantastic. Is there a speed limit when they do the crossover or no? Saw a couple more autocars heading west the other day if i remember you said there was some place they work on them. Keep the videos coming/

Cool...I've never seen a double-deck swing bridge before. And great drone work. I've never seen Fort Madison trains from the air before.

You should come to Davenport Ia. There is also a double deck swing bridge with two sets of tracks and road lanes. But train traffic is top level and road traffic is bottom. Also swing portion opens right next to a lock and dam.

RED, there is a couple Webcams on this area, THANKS to VIRTUALRAILFAN!!! - Nice entertainment on a lazy!!! Coming into IOWA on the Bridge you have to Stop as if you had to pay - but there is no fee!!! This past SPRING they had the new Marina buildings open!!! Now a busy place!!!

Hi Red, this is a fantastic video of the swing bridge, great shots of the cars and freight trains crossing the bridge. I can see the small tug pushing the large platform across the water. Is the water level always this high? Great BNSF intermodal container trains. The tugboat on the water crossing the bridge was very well filmed, it is also very long. Some years ago, my wife and I stayed in Fort Madison, (almost) trackside at the Kingsley Inn. Fantastic! In those days, the marina just downriver of the bridge had not even been planned, and the Amtrak depot was located at the BNSF yard, further south. Both the BNSF double-track main and the Mississippi River were busy, 24/7 - the bridge tender was also busy! One day, we drove to Galesburg (Illinois) - another great train spot - and we enjoyed a great lunch near the Amtrak depot. The view from your drone suggests that the Mississippi is in, or has recently been in, flood.
