Thank you, Red, for this fine video that you shot of CNW Days at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, Illinois on 24 Nay 2924, the CNW Days at IRM were part of the festivities celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the founding of the Chicago & North Western Historical Society. The CNWHS was founded in My 1974 at a meeting of CNW enthusiast held in Rockford, Illinois. My late wife's uncle John Kamacher was one of the founding members. You showed us some of the CNW and predecessor railroads materials that arecurrently in the CNWHS Archives. The CNWHS Archives were started when someone from the CNW called John Kamacher one day in the summer of 1977 (I think that was the year.) to tell John that CNW was going to do some remodeling of some areas under the tracks in the Chicago Passenger Terminal. The person said that there were some boxes of material in one of the rooms that the CNWHS might be interested in having for future reference and use. John was told that if we wanted the materials, we better move fast because the demolition crews were getting close to the room in question. John Kamacher rented a 30-foot straight truck and called Bob Janz, Wally Feret, myself, and someone whose name I do not remember to meet him on the Clinton Street side of CPT. We met after work and spent around three plus hours removing boxes from a room and putting them in the truck. The contents of the truck were taken to a self-storage facility near Mt. Prospect and Higgins Roads in DesPlaiens, Illinois until CNWHS could find a location more suitable. The next major addition to the Archives that I remember taking part in was when CNW moved out of CPT because the property was sold to CitiBank. CitiBank was going to demolish the front part of CPT and put up an office skyscraper. The CNWHS was invited to take whatever Engineering Department materials that the Engineering Department was not taking to their new location. We had a large group of Chicago area CNWHS members who came to help move the files and records that were given to us. These records were given to CNWHS with the stipulation that if the Engineering Department needed anything that CNWHS had they could retrieve their records and return the records to CNWHS. When CNW abandoned its lines to and through Antigo, Wisconsin, CNW told CNWHS that any files or records in the former Antigo Division offices in the Antigo Depot were available to CNWHS to take. John Kamacher, Wally Feret, Father Joe Follmar, and I met at the Antigo, Wisconsin Depot on a summer day and pulled out as much material as we could put in out of the former Antigo Division offices as we could gather up. I do not remember when we went to Antigo, Wisconsin. I just did a Google search and found that the CNW Antigo, Wisconsin Depot was abandoned in 1984. The excursion to Antigo, Wisconsin must have taken place in the summer of 1983 or 1984 because I took my family with me on that trip and our daughter who was born in early 1983 was with us at the time.
You're welcome Thomas! That's great you know all the history of the CNWHS. I was impressed with the amount of records stored in the new archives building. They are slowly scanning records and putting them on hard drives. It's a very lengthy project. They had a 25 foot long track map displayed on that table I videod.
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 I want to go to the CNWHS Archives building to get a look at the collection. The last time I was at the Archives was in 2018, they were in a building in Berwyn, Illinois. John Kamacher died in April 2018 in the Phoenix, Arizona area, I do not remember the town he was living in at the time. One of my sisters-in-law, who lives in Phoenix is a nurse, she was helping John and his wife with their medical problems. She became the administrator of John's estate. It was decided to donate all of John's railroad related material (photos, slides, paper forms, etc.) to the CNWHS. She sent a bunch of boxes to me which I took to the Berwyn Archives location. John also had a model railroad. The model equipment was sold off with the help of the people who owned the railroad hobby store that John patronized.
A great video of the CNW. Those were some old trains and old locomotives but anyway Red you stay safe out there and watch your back and we’ll see you on the next one my friend
That is a beautiful heritage museum Red, so many heritage locos & rolling stock. I too love the UP1995. I loved it all really, what a great way to spend the day, bet kids love it! Thanks for the tour Red, awesome. ❤😊👍
Ive never seen so much vintage equipment in one place before. I'm amazed at how good it all looks! Thank you very much for the blast from the past and putting up with all of my dumb questions. 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Some Railroads take the History of the Fallen Flag Railroads and the Handling and/or Storage of their Associated Equipment more seriously than Others. 👍🙏

Great job, Red! C&NW fan here and a visitor to the remarkable IRM a number of times. Such a well-funded, well run, and member-supported resource roughly halfway between Chicago and Rockford. Well worth a visit for any tourist in the vicinity. And your video did it proud! (Cheers to Red2 and the burnout!!)
Thanks HeyBeerDan! CNW all the way👍 Yes the volunteer work there is fabulous. I had not quite a day to get that footage. Yep talked him into a burnout. Maybe more of a brake stand next time!
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 I'll be on an old European-car tour near Dubuque and Prairie du Chien area on country roads next weekend. Looking forward to your beautiful Iowa countryside.
Hello Red, this is an interesting video, the museum train with the SD as NORTHWESTERN, at the UP. The 1995 diesel locomotive in the NORTHWESTERN design is very nice. Your drone flight is great. The short freight train with the GP in the Northwestern look is great. Fantastic flight over the exhibition grounds and the many fun diesel locomotives, I like these nose locomotives. The model railways in the museum and the many exhibits are very nice. And a fantastic caprio from your brother. Thanks for the excellent video and have a nice day today.
Another Great Video Red. Thanks for taking Us viewer's along for the adventure. Really cool seeing all the CNW Equipment. BTW The WS6 Pontiac is Badass. I had the Black Bird back in 02. I miss that car. I got married and of course I had to get rid of my toy. Then 5 years later got divorced. I miss that car. Not the ex-wife. Hahaha. Have a great weekend and stay safe out there.
Red you absolutely made my day with this video. I am a member of the CNWHS and have yet to visit IRM and see our new building. I am hoping I’ll find time this summer to visit, it’s such a fantastic museum. As always keep up the great videos.
I remember when the South Shore line going into Chicago had electric locomotives like the trolley that went by. They're still electric but don't get the power from overhead like they did before. 😊😊😊❤❤❤
Red you were in my neck of the woods, the UP line comes into Rockford twice a week. It runs thru downtown on the middle of the street. Great video buddy.
Hello Red well the Railway museum and Archives wow Bonas place well Done C&NW very well missed it so great they have a place for the stuff 👍🏻😎Robin out .
Thanks, Red!, i wasnt able to be at the CNW days, due to more skin cancer that was found, and now ive got Lupus, which is when the body's autoimmune system attacks healthy tissue. The CNW commuter train is nearly identical to my HO one, the only differences being the numbers on the engine & cars. I saw the 1995 heading solo to IRM on a VRF video, and i figured thats where it was heading. Ive got an Athearn CNW bay window caboose in boxcar red, now i need to find another bay window caboose and paint in the bright red.
@@redsiowatrainvideos6645 Yes, IRM is more like a small town, they have pretty much everything except a city hall, police department and ambulance service. Theyve got a post office, hobby shop, and even a restaurant on the premises. There's so much to see there it would take the better part of a week, and its larger than the museum in St. Louis! The skin cancer isnt the big issue with me, and my dermatologist is one of the best ones in the world, but the Lupus suddenly appeared, and even though i am on meds for it, i still feel as stiff as a tree trunk, with lots of pain. And the really bad part about both of them is, sunlight makes them worse, so i have to limit my time outdoors. So now, i have to rely on railfan videographers like you and others to see what goes on in the railroad world, and your drone views take railfanning to a whole new perspective! My cat has been sleeping next to me since the onset of Lupus, our pets know when we arent felling up to par, and since my wife passed 4 years ago, he clings to me like Velcro whenever he can😸😸❗
