    I have waited to make this video until I had a good amount of time to work on it. This was in my pile of decks with a damaged silver tube so still needs a lot of work, but I knew it would be an interesting repair as I never saw this reverses spinning before, it's normally the fast forward spin known to be runaway.

    I'm not a technician and have very little knowledge about electronics, just basic stuff that you learn from being a hifi gear/music lover (of course, I've own a SL-1210 MK2) but watching your videos is such a fantastic trip and learning experience, love the detail, the explanation, the whole process. Thank you SO MUCH for your generosity in sharing these videos, and congrats for your great work!

    Remind me of my first pair of decks. It was a pair of SL-1700's and both turntables were runaways. Every time after power them up I had to smack hard on the platter and everything ran great after that. Sorry, I was only 16 years old.
    Disclaimer: don't try this on your 1200's please :P
    Great video('s)!

    I had a Technics deck that played forwards and backwards repeatedly! It turned out to be the Brake Pot! Someone had somehow snapped it off so it sat there going crazy! I replaced it and all was good again! I was recommended this page and look forward to building up and sharing knowledge on when these iconic decks get sick!

    This is an excellent video, I managed to fix my turntable by reflowing the solder joints on the two large ICs and Q201 even though the joints looked fine to being with. I guess I got lucky.. More importantly, I learnt a lot watching your troubleshooting process.

    Fantastic. Finally a video which may help me solve an issue on my Numark TT2400 turntables. They are really nice, vintage, with fantastic Jelco tonarms, but the motor has given up.. - well I suspect its the electrical drive. I really think your troubleshooting will give me some good direction for pinning down the issue(s) and hopefully reviving them - wish me luck! Great info. Runaway at power on, will also be accompanied by the 33 and 45 lamps on at the same time. Q201 runs hot and relies on the leads to carry the heat into the board. This can cause the solder joint to fail over time. I like to use lead free solder as it has a higher melting point.

    • @AWO7_BigToph
      @AWO7_BigToph 3 года назад

      @@DJlegionuk One of them actually is a DJM 600 lol however the mixers are totally back burner projects. The main reason I kept them was to strip for parts and the 600 just needs a new crossfader as I snapped the post off scratching and the hole for the ground pin re-tapped as it is stripped. So really no need for a vid. However I have a question about a tech 1200 mk3 I'm repairing for a friend. Major grounding issues. as it happens him (or a previous owner) who I'm assuming was replacing the tonearm didn't thread the tonearm wires properly to the PC board and one of the five (the ground of course) was cut by the anti skate gear and rendered it too short to reach the board, and was patched with 18awg speaker wire. To my knowledge a patch on those wires must be done with special wire (I forget the name) if at all. Should I try and re-patch with the proper type wire? Does the wire type or gauge matter? Or should I tell him to pony up the $$$ and just buy a replacement tonearm? Sorry for going on and thanks for the quick reply! -C

    • @DJlegionuk
      @DJlegionuk  3 года назад +1

      @@AWO7_BigToph no need to replace the tonearm. I am no expert in the wire gauge stuff , but you have a couple of physical things to think about. Thicker stiffer wires could stop free movement of the tonearm. It also needs to be flexible because of the constant movement over time. You can find the groundwire part on ebay easy enough or you could look at one of the upgrade wire kits like a cardas cable. the cost to replace the tonearm is silly money especially over grounding issues.

    Good morning. I write from Italy. I saw your video and you are great. I have a problem with my technics 1200 mk2. It is perfect, without a scratch. It was working fine until 3 years ago when I packed it. has been packed for 2 years. I moved home. He started having speed problems. During the reading of the disc, constantly, and for a few seconds, it seems that there is someone who pushes the disc and then slows it down. After that it resumes functioning regularly. I measured the components. Tp5 30V. IC101 AN6675 voltages at 20/25 and 30 V. Even the waves do not comply with the SERVICE MANUAL. The other components more or less respect the parameters. A further problem: the R201 resistance becomes hot when the turntable is on. But the parameters are right. Can you help me? Thank you

    I don't have a runaway problem, but rather I have a disc spinning back and forth like it can't decide which way to spin. I went through and checked the voltage and IC302 is really out of whack. The big heat sink chip is fine however. I also checked IC201 and it was fine as well.
    The problem is I don't know where to get IC302, any part related to this turntable is rare as hell, and with them being so proprietary it means they can and do crap out, and there's nothing you can do is replacement part is costing as much as a car.
    The weird thing is, it was working fine a minute after I got it home, and only the tonearm was screwed up. But then I turned it on and it did that turning back and forth. Owner said it was water damaged or something so that might have been why. I told him he'll need to get both a new motherboard and a tone arm. I can fix the tone arm more easily as it is a mechanical thing, but custom made IC that is discontinued isn't fixable.
