- Today i am showing you how to replace the water pump on a 2016 - 2020 gmc or chevy with the 5.3 liter engine. On of the easiest water pumps i have ever done. You could do it too
Thanks, brother. Saved me nearly $900. 🙏🏼
No problem 👍
Thank you, just changed on my 2019 Escalade…. Saved $525 on labour
Thanks, I just had to do this in mall parking lot. It was easy because of your video, thank you
Thanks for the video.....about to do this today with my 20' yukon xl with 80,000 on it. Caught it early and didn't overheat.
Great video quick and to the point thank you!
I wouldnt put thread adhesive on the studs to this pump. Just had one snap off upon removal because the last guy used this. Unfortunately, the space is too tight to get in there with a drill. So tomorrow...ill spend my day figuring out the best way to get it out.
How did you end up doing it ?
Probably used the GREEN permanent loc tite or equivalent and/or over-torqued that one bolt a bit more than the rest or had extra loc tite or both...torque value would be nice for this video
Snapped mine off too. Thankfully I was able to get it off with needle nose lock pliers and some wd 40
Great video, it’s crazy that ours when your also at 70,000 miles. Thanks.
Auto correct: ours went out also @ 70,000 miles.
Great video brother. Question though. I pulled the water pump off my 2018 5.3 and it had 2 tiny pin/bearings in it that were loose. Any idea what they might have been. I inspected the housing and it seems fine just wondering what they were.
Excellent video , thank you
Thanks bro just did mine 👍 didn’t use any rtv either, no leaks. Only thing I wish was that I had my power ratchet from my work tool box lol. My 2019 silverado 5.3 water pump just went out at 77k miles, was making a noise for the last couple days and last night when I got home it got louder and I seen that it was leaking so I changed it this morning, I got a duralast water pump, gasket, and a whole thermostat kit from autozone for $115.00. Easy peasy, job took about 30 mins.
How much coolant is needed in case you do a fluid flush while doing this?
How is the water pump doing after just replacey pulley?
Just changed mines , thanks brotha
Si no uviera mirado este video por poco desarmo medio motor 👍
Asi pasa primo
Hello i have a question, why dies the new water pump on my brothers van start leaking as soon as he put new coolant in it. I found a guy on Google that came and replaced the water pump with a new one he told my brother to let the sealant sit for a while we let the van sit for a day and a half we turned it on and now there is still coolant dropping where it was dropping before the water pump was replaced, why???
Super helpful 👍🏼
Glad you think so!
No, you don't just tighten bolts. How do you keep gasket in place?
Can you tell me what kinda tool is that when u turned the water pump and it came off what’s that tool?
Looks like either a Milwaukee or snap on 12v cordless 3/8s drive ratchet 🤷♂️
Got one thats completely grenaded and seized solid, gonna try some persuasion but because its jammed so tight im thinking the housing is wrecked
What kinda tool is that you taking the water pump out with it?
👍 really helpful
This looks almost too easy. Gonna tackle mine tomorrow.
49000 miles and it blew the bearing. Slowly spilling coolant all the way home. Luckily It was a short drive and I made it home where coolant has leaked down the driveway 😅
Did you loose Coolant? Did you have to replace?
Add more Coolant. I have the same problem. Makes noise and has play in the pulley. I replaced the serpentine belt figured why not only 40bucks. Noise still there thats when I noticed water pump has play
10nm torque?
@@cdnrdz I can tell you from experience that the 11 ft/lbs first pass then 22 ft/lbs second pass that appears all over the internet for the 6 - 10mm water pump bolts doesn't appear to be correct for those pump bolts.
I tried that, increasing torque incrementally (11 ft/lbs first pass) then did 13 ft/lbs on the way to 22 ft/lbs and had one of the 6 bolts snap off!
I had a pdf with torque values with instructions for certain jobs.
It had an exploded view of the whole water pump manifold assembly hovering in front of the engine block with the following instructions:
"Important: All gasket surfaces to be free of oil or oth foreign material during assembly.
1. Install the water pump and NEW gaskets. (PLURAL) ce: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions
Notices.
2. Install the water pump bolts.
Tighten"
It then went on to say:
Tighten bolts 11 ft/lbs first pass then
22 ft/lbs on second pass
So, GASKETS plural was the clue and so the 11 ft/lbs first pass then 22 ft/lbs on second pass appears to be for the 6 much thicker water pump manifold to engine block bolts and not the 6 water pump bolts that hold water pump in the water pump manifold.
I had to buy the whole water pump manifold that included a new water pump, coolant temp sensor and thermostat already mounted into manifold and the 11 ft/lbs//22 ft/lbs worked fine for the manifold to engine block bolts with NO bolts snapping and no leaks!
I don't know what the torque values are supposed to be for the 6 - 10mm water pump bolts but I personally would keep looking for what GM says they should be torqued to and I personally would not exceed 11 ft/lbs of torque on them if I had to swap a pump out for another one.
I blame "overseas" inferior cast bolts containing bubbles in their castings.
Good Luck!
P.S. The 10mm bolt that snapped looked as if it had a bubble in it where it snapped and wasn't enough sticking out of the manifold to unscrew with locking pliers.
If my Silverado is squealing on start up do you think it’s the water pump?
Sounds like the serpentine belt
Im not an expert but pretty quick learner. Last week i had the same noise and just sprayed water on belt. Noise gone for a couple days but today while driving in the city, heRd one last final noise and after popped the hood, saw coolant dripping all over.
Do not ignore the noise
Mine was the belt
I had the same noise. Only happened when car when in park. Took it to the mechanic and they said it was the water pump and belt
My water just started making noise and I noticed there is water leaking
So do I not need to drain the coolant for this?
yes you do. will lose about 2 gallons
Torque specs for bolting on the new pump?
Just tighten down snug. Idk
They say is calls for 18 foot lbs
@@enriquereyes8180 I set the wrench to 18 ft lbs and broke a bolt. Highly recommend not doing that.
Per the service manual...11 ft/lbs on the first pass. 22 on the second.
@@cschmidling31how did you get the bolt out? Had one snap trying to remove the pump.
Great job
Thanks
I just replaced mine and it has a weird squeaky sound, I didn't put that black thing on could it be that or something else? HELPP
What black thing?
The gasket seals it to stop it from leaking
Just take it off and put the gasket on
What size sockets please
10mm
Shit I lost mine @@rxplusplates646
Was the water pump leaking water
Mins is not leaking but making noise and has some play. I'm going to replace it this week
Mine didn’t start as a leak. Started making a squealing noise and the leak came shortly after
I hate mechanics or ppl who place old parts dripping on oil or other fluids on top of the engine or any other engine bay components. 👎🏽 poor work ethics
This is not the main water pump is it? Other videos showing water pump replacement are quite labor intensive with a lot of parts being removed Thanks dm
That is the water pump, but without the manifold.
