Yeah, transformers got cheap and shotty, even going to ‘futuristic’ vehicle modes to completely cop out on making passable alt modes. Their non-transforming action masters even had fewer POA than the earliest Joes made almost a decade earlier BY THE SAME COMPANY. Wtf man, WTF (worst transformers)

They chose a simplistic robot mode with limited poseability so they could have a single-step transformation. BUT, it's actually possible to do both given the materials available at the time. They just had the wrong mindset when designing it.
A tank with no turret might be self propelled artillery or, more likely for Skytread, a tank destroyer. The Archer is a great example and I think Bovington has one on display.
No idea what Skytread's official backstory is, but I can't help but imagine that he's the Decepticons' first experiment in triplechanger technology. He starts off as a regular tankbot, he has a jet mode adapted into him to coincide with his tank mode, but when he transforms for the first time, he just splits apart into two different entities. SKYTREAD: Did it work? Am I a jet?? SHOCKWAVE: Uh... Kind of?...
I actually love his colour scheme! There's a load of blue and grey Decepticons, but I can't think of a single other Transformer with maroon and brown off the top of my head.
My advice is to get a second TR Blitzwing or Megatron and custom paint it, then whack the Skytread Titan Master on there and just pretend it's a Generations version of the Platinum Blitzwing that made a cameo in your Astrotrain video...then get another Astrotrain and do the same Platinum Edition custom paint job to him so they match...

I like Siege Skytread but one of the tabs on the chunky part of the tank doesn’t go in. It just pops out after you push it in. Other than that he’s a lot of fun and maybe even my favorite siege figure. I would 100% recommend it. Edit: There’s a piece of plastic inside the feet, and if you cut it down then it holds together. It’s hard to describe the piece but I looked up “Siege Skytread tank fix” and found it in the TFW forums. After that I made a video on my channel about it, you could just look at that that’s prolly be easier
I prefer to have Skytread displayed with the larger weapon on his back. That way he has the classic cockpit chest of a jet transformer AND the classic back mounted turret of a tank transformer, which is perfect for a transformer that is both.

You know, considering that Generations Springer was repainted into Battletrap for BotCon 2015, you've gotta wonder why Generations Blitzwing didn't get repainted into Flywheels/Skytread. The alt modes are correct, and the mold's helmet is similar enough, even sporting the huge red visor. AND the kibble also looks similar, with the downward-pointing wings, the cockpit chest and the tank treads on his legs. I mean, I get it, Generations Blitzwing was an... unfortunate figure, to say the least, but it just bugs me that Battletrap got the BotCon treatment and Flywheels didn't, you know? Even IF Fun Publications did end up going out of business, someone else could have done it. There was even a G1 reissue of Blitzwing that was painted up to look like Flywheels! So what gives?

Flywheels did appear in the Headmasters cartoon and the animated segment of the Duocons commercial, so Siege Skytread is based on that version of the design...
So, I think this is a friggin great idea for a figure, two vehicles to merge into one genuinely good robot, but the plane is seriously disappointing. In jet modes, they either hide the arms well, or hide the legs well, or fail at both and awkwardly clamp a big block under what's meant to be a sleek plane. Here, they get to ditch the entire lower half of the robot and focus on a good jet, and yet the arms still ended up with a breeze block look under the aeroplane, despite being handed every opportunity for it to be good!
The body bits on the back of the alt mode don't sit right unless the thighs and pelvis are rotated exactly in the right position. Done right, the tabs just snap into place without any effort at all. How long have you spent deliberating between forcing the tabs to go in with a hammer or just chunking it at a wall.
Yes! My Skytread has the exact same issues with the tank half that yours does, which is really disappointing as this guy was one of the few transformers I had as a kid. I still have his jet half in a bin somewhere too...

Genuinely, that's why I prefer the Slamdance repaint. The colors just feel much more lively, it's brighter and looks better to me.
