I wanted to become an actor, because of Carol. In 1976, she sent an autographed picture. 1978, I landed my first acting job as an extra in Peter Seller's "Being There". I was only 9. Jump ahead 2010: I was working on "Glee" with guest star Carol Burnett. I wanted to cry there and then, but knew I had to remain professional and focused on my work.
@@MattGrossChannel 😃👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Amazing story. Why she cried when she got awfully surprised by her co-partners bringing her favorite artist on stage for her. She was in tears and she held him and told him how she always thought of him. Appreciate you for sharing that piece with us Matt. Thank you. Wonderful. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤗
Every single person on Lucy's show fired on ALL cylinders. She was a visionary and wanted nothing but the best, and she got them... All super talents who performed flawlessly. No one did, or could have done, a better Mr. Mooney than Gale Gordon.. and of course, Vivian Vance was Lucy's right arm for many years. But Burnett was in a league of her own.. Watching them work together is seeing poetry in motion.
Barf Salamandruid they were great friends - Lucy was a mentor to Carol - and in quite a few shows together. Carol guest-starred a few more times on the Lucy Show, and Lucy guested a few times on Carol’s great variety show. You can see more of their teamups here on RUclips.
Did you know the two most popular female comedians in the 1960's and 1980's in Latin America were Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett? Their shows were dubbed in latin american spanish for all the countries south of the Rio Grande down to Patagonia in Argentina.
Lucy went to see Carol when she starred on stage in the comedy play "Once Upon A Mattress" in New York City. Lucy was so impressed by Carol's talent that she told her she'd work with her anytime she asked - and most notably did so when Carol had her first TV special. This in turn led to the hugely successful "Carol Burnett Show".
Or this one: Explaining how stupid people can be, not knowing the title or the authors' name of the book they're looking for. And then, suddenly: 3:58 That was a good one too.
Two "very awesome" comedian's! I've always loved these funny gals. Carol Burnett singing and dancing at the end reminds me of Carol's character "Stella Irving" in the 1963 Dean Martin Elizabeth Montgomery bedroom comedy "Who's been sleeping in my bed" The film has an all star cast! Very funny "underrated" movie too.
This Show has been dissed because of the greatness of I LOVE LUCY, but this show was excellent too; especially seasons 1-3 with Vivian Vance. Seasons 4 5 6 featured many, many stars...like Carol Burnett...John Wayne, Wayne Newton... Ann Sothern, and Joan Crawford!!
Lucy had a stunning wardrobe in these shows & wore each outfit with such elegant ease & comfort. Even the most casual ones were always pulled together. I miss these days wham wearing pretty things was just the way we all dressed & ♥️ it 👗
This is my favorite episode ....Carol Burnett was hilarious I thought ....I think that was just her humor ....that's all The guitarist does look like Joe Pesci ......what great comedy ...this episode always makes me laugh ....I love the ending as well
" Can I have some more of that Italian water" 😄 Hilarious! Carol was very funny and Lucy was humble enough to step back and let her steal the show. They are THE QUEENS OF COMEDY!
I think that the line "Italian Water" is extremely clever! FUNNY! And, the line "Well, we got her out of her shell...yeah...way out," Is most appropriate and hilarious ☺️.
Lucy (who was quite proud of her well earned nickname of 'Lucille Balls') loathed being upstaged. Every writer in Hollywood knew, Lucy gets the biggest laugh, or else. She knew of a young upstart Redhead making ripples at CBS, and Lucy, basically asked for a full blown FBI style dossier on Carol. She must have liked what she saw, because, as the stories go, a few nights later, Lucy saw Carol, eating alone, at the 'little diner' across from the studio, and sat down at her table... ...by the end of the conversation, Lucy asked Carol to 'guest star' on her show, and gave Carol absolute permission to mop the floor, with her "Tired Old Wig that wants to retire"... This episode represents one of the..... no... The Most beautiful power transfers in the history of Hollywood.
Mary Jane always looks like she's in a hospital gown. I guess I just like the clothes from I Love Lucy in the 1950s compared to the '60s. Lucy always looked so swanky then.
Here they are roommates, watch them on the carol burnett's show as competitors..they both work for different car rental offices: GERTZ and MAVIS 🤣🤣🤣 and boy, putting them against each other is even more hilarious 🤣🤣🤣I wish we saw the bloopers as well
Lucy was Carol's idol, and as someone mentioned below, wouldn't even try to "upstage" Lucy. In fact, Lucy wouldn't have let her! Lucy was well aware of Carol's "idolatry," and became quick friends with Carol, calling her, affectionately, "kid."
Lucy also adored Carol. She stepped back here and let Carol shine. Carol always referred to Lucy as the first lady of Comedy. Lucy had mentioned several times that she couldn't do some of the things that Carol could do. This episode is pure Gold.
