I think Ziddler genuinely loved satin like his own daughter, but they are all victims of the life they were given, and they have no other choice but to continue forward. Thats why that scene is so sad, you can see his heart is breaking for her. You can ultimately see him come through when he punches the duke in the end, knowing well that it would be his end.

Moulin Rouge's Roxanne is far superior to the original and I'll fight you on it if needed.

Has anyone ever realised that “Audrey” at the start of the movie is Faramir from LOTR!

So fun to see someone do Moulin Rouge! Please check out Hamilton! And I second the suggestions of Chicago and Rocky Horror, especially Rocky.

While it is not a musical, Too Wong Foo, With Love from Julie Newmar, is an amazing movie you should see, if you haven’t already done so. I only suggest it because John Leguizamo is amazing in it, also stellar performances from various amazing actors.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Strictly Ballroom! It's not a musical, but the dancing is a lot of fun and it's a sweet story.

This was the 3rd of his, 'Red Curtain Trilogy", the other two being, "Strictly Ballroom" and "Romeo + Juliete). Strictly Ballroom is definitely the most fun of the three movies though :)
The only critique I really have with Moulin Rouge is that they didn't write a set of original songs to go with the movie.

Baz Luhrmann certainly has a unique style. I really enjoy his adaptations of Romeo & Juliet (best Mercutio and Tybalt ever) and Great Gatsby (amazing cast and beautiful visuals). Australia, with Nicole Kidman, is also interesting, but a bit 'white savior' 😬.

nice video!!! in my opinion the "Red Curtain Trilogy" is kinda like the "Cornetto Trilogy" (shaun of the dead, hot fuzz and the worlds end) - similar vibes, could exist in the same universe but arent directly connected

Crazy thing- the actor playing Satine’s pimp (essentially) is the same damn actor that plays professor slughorn in Harry Potter.

I totally agree about the editing and your general impressions of the movie, what you liked, but also what you didn't. It's not "Singin' In the Rain"! But like you said, they worked hard on this! They're giving their all! It's a little overblown to me.
I don' t know your tastes well enough to say anything is a sure thing, but the legendary choreographer Bob Fosse directed an absolute dazzling musical called ALL THAT JAZZ (1980) which you might want to put on your radar. I keep trying to type out some kind of apt description of it and I fail, so I'm just going to throw that title out to you, and maybe some of your subscribers or viewers can chime in whether or not this one's for you. "All That Jazz" (1979). I would not call this a romantic musical, so I almost hesitated to suggest it. (he also did "Cabaret", which is very good)
For older, classic Hollywood musicals: "Guys And Dolls" is a fun one, with Marlon Brando and Frank Sinatra (!!!!). "The Pajama Game" (which was choregraphed by the forementioned Bob Fosse) was one I always found fun. Lastly: the first Beatles movie "A Hard Days Night" is a great movie, a classic comedy! Who wouldn't want to see you react to that? Who? Show me the man! lol Their animated film "Yellow Submarine" is also dazzling.
I've never seen a better musical than "Singin' In The Rain" though, that's the benchmark in my book!

When trying to create, what Westerners refer to as "exotic", they often end up simply displaying their ignorance about the culture they are fetishizing.
