@@moniquepeixoto2969 the song lyrics were in the book - and therefore written by Winston Graham. The music to go with it was composed by Mike O‘Connor.
@@moniquepeixoto2969 apologies - I meant to add that this is not an authentic/traditional song written by generations past. But it was very well written to be true to the style and genre that it is meant to embody. Songs like this definitely exist in Cornish culture, just not this one specifically.
@@AyeletBach Cornish is the culture of the peoples of Cornwall, the most south-westerly part of England. They have their own language, and the place has figured prominently in British myth, such as the Arthurian tales. It's a Gaelic culture I believe. The Gaelic Britons fled there, as well as to Wales, after the Anglo-Saxon invasion at the tail-end of the 6th century.
I am so late to this party. Not sure why I didn't watch Poldark in real time, currently in time of Covid , I am bingeing season one on streaming service. As soon as I heard this song, I had hoped to find it here. Thank you so much tealady for doing this.
Same here. Finished watching the whole seasons last week but I find myself re watching them again this week. It's such a romantic film...... you never get tired of it
Trying to sing this beautiful song, the metric and rhythm of the song is driving me crazy. I get that they modified it for dramatic effect but can someone figure out the structure? Help
Sorry but I'm afraid you've made a mistake in the lyrics. It is old English and she says wi' (a shortening of with) your heart mating, not we are heart mating, which doesn't really make sense. Sorry to correct you as it's a nice video up until that point!
I understand what you're saying, but I'm sure "I'd a pluck.." is correct. I have listened to British folk music for years, and the verb form "I would..." as in "I would pluck..." is very common in traditional lyrics. Just poetic. "I'd a pluck" is short for "I would pluck..."
Huh. After writing the message below I found this online. INteresting. I think he's talking about the first edition of the novel. ".... In the first edition of Poldark the lyric was written "I d' pluck", and we took that as an abbreviation for "I do pluck". In some later editions the apostrophe was between the 'I' and the 'd', but we went for the Winston Graham original. Eleanor was singing d', but I would not disagree with anyone who could hear a very short vowel 'a' or 'o' after it - that's what abbreviations are all about! Anyway, I'm really glad you like the song!..."
The way Demelza looks at Ross at the end is incredible acting - I wish for that kind of love.
The last line is actually .. "Wi' your heart matin' " .... "wi' " is poetic for "with" and is common in Celtic and English folk songs.
Could you explain to me if this song was written by the writer from Poldark or if it is a Celtic song?

Just finished watching the very last episode. Feel so sad its all over. My favourite show of all time.
Love poldark
I have watched it 3 times in 4 years... And I'm just starting again. Love these British series, the best in the world.
That last episode was infuriating! I hate how the writers made Demelza think that Ross no longer loved her... She had been through enough
Love the song.Loved watching Poldark.❤
brings a tear to my eye every time! Simple but so moving.
SO moving What a beautiful voice she has. Love this and Poldark

I think its not I'D A PLUCK .. etc... I think its "I do pluck". This form of English has fallen out of use now, but this is what I think it is

Perché non è sbocciato l’amore tra Aidan e Eleanor?
so do I
Ross doesn't deserve her 👩🦰🧡
For real he does not. He is blinded by his devotion to the traitorous Elizabeth, he failed to see the true gem that is Demelza.
