    Peanut butter will break down the adhesive property in the masking tape glue. Use dish soap & running warm water to wash away the peanut butter. This procedure may require a couple of applications in a row to remove all of the adhesive & peanut butter but it will get the job done.

    That's a lot of band-aids on your fingertips. Maybe you should get some of those woodcarving gloves that are cut-resistant! Anyway, thanks for the video. It makes me want to try doing that myself.

    • @tauftools
      @tauftools  3 года назад +1

      Thank you sir, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
      As for the band aids, it’s actually a bunch of sand paper cuts 😵 there were two days of sanding on the blade and handle, at some point you can see I start wearing gloves.
      In any case, definitely try doing some restoration / knife making yourself! It’s very meditative and so much fun!! Just stock up on sandpaper, gloves and some bandaids ;)

      Tried acetone, alcohol, turpentine, eventually sanded back down to 600 and up again. Someone did suggest a type of gun oil and I haven’t found the exact one yet. Cheers

    When making knives, the upper part of the handle should not be higher than the back of the knife.

    • @tauftools
      @tauftools  2 года назад

      In most European style handles, even for Japanese chef knives it’s quite common to see a Yo (western)style handle.
      In this case, and since I was going for a traditional Japanese knife I made a Wa (Japanese) style handle which is less known in the US for example.
      The design has to do with the weight and the force used with this type of knife.
