Bing Crosby left us on October 14, 1977. I was a Sophomore at University. I had driven over to my mothers home and turned the T.V. set on. The newscaster told the sad news. I wept and wept.
There's NEVER been another one any smoother or richer than Bing...love him till today. Never got the chance to go hear him in person..I was a kid then...I feel cheated....but thank GOD for recordings....
This man’s voice is immortal; even in animation. Not only did he appear in at least one Disney film; as two characters to boot, Dr. Gill Gilliam’s voice is based on his.
Check out a real fun movie with Barry Fitzgerald, "Welcome Stranger" (1946). Songs, dance, fun. And the most beautiful actress of her time, Joan Caulfield. I watch it a lot.
This song was Bing's 'My Way'. And I am grateful that he never got to sing MW for he would have trivialised it. He got stuck in the rut of 'entertainer' and never developed the maturity and introspection that his student Sinatra did. Got stuck making money with his equally asinine buddy Bob Hope. Great entertainer, Crosby, but his children and grandchildren probably nurtured him more than he, them. I worship him.
In private he was a nasty piece of work. He left his wife nothing when he died, only said she could still live in the house (not own it). He was abusive to one of his children & liked shaming him in public. Two of his sons committed suicide. And of course he had affairs.
@@John-yk5vv My comments were gained from what I read, admittedly some time ago. All I know is that 2 days ago I was on my iPad and looking at video clips under the title ‘ 10 Biggest Jerks in Hollywood ‘ - guess who was the No.1 ???? Bing Crosby. So there may be something in what each of us say, I don’t know.

I was 16 years old and I too wept too. I miss him to this day.

I listen to Bing Crosby every single day 😊

Vera Lynn, the one who sang “We’ll Meet Again”?
And was referenced by Pink Floyd in “The Wall”?
Yes.

Amen, child abuser. Two of his sons commited suicide because of his abuse.

Absolute nonsense. If you don't know you shouldn't say.
That’s amazing - he left Katheryn nothing? News to her…she controls his estate. 🤔
Also…dum dum…his will is in the public record and easily findable.
He reconciled with his wife over the affairs he had, right before she died, in 1952. At least with Dixie Lee, I never heard of any affairs after that.
