For those wondering why comments have been turned off on today’s video this morning, please understand that I’m not interested in creating a platform where anonymous people can share their hatred. Hateful comments make it very difficult for me to bring new people in to interview. Please ask yourself if you’d like to be a target where anonymous people can post comments saying anything they like about you and you just have to take it. Then, ask yourself if you think this channel will continue if I can’t attract interesting people with feelings and the intelligence to decide not to subject themselves to your senseless negativity. Please project your self hatred elsewhere, or better yet, keep it to yourself. I’m giving you a second chance. There won’t be a third. Thank you, Mark

I grow tired of freedom of speech being called self hatred, just because we give our opinion of what we’re witnessing. That’s life - the good & the bad. How boring it would be to just have comments of sunshine instead of how your subs are honestly seeing the people you interview- us not being allowed to speak freely. I can bet your interviewees have been exposed to far worse than what we talk about in the comment section.

And it can be unconscious. I think the brain is really good at finding ways to accommodate itself to its surroundings, for the better or worst.
I always find it fascinating when I see people that could be in the greatest despair (after a terrible accident for exemple) finding that tiny little light, that last little reason to have hope, again, unconsciously sometimes.
And on the other hand for some it's a way to cope with their bad choices and other failures.

People who are massively naturally talented tend to have a hard time when talent alone doesn't cut it, and requires something else, be it hard work, determination, ambition, etc, so they get stuck as prisoners of their own inability to manifest a life they're happy in, and are always intimately aware of it. Reading Bukowski at 13 will have that effect. Bukowski s attitude, “anyone who strives for anything is a loser, except for me”, is poisonous and infectious. It is a serious social problem. However, if this guy is a “nihilist” what would you call the majority of the other interviewees? Their nihilism is often a cause and an effect of their addictions.

I'm inclined to agree with you on Bukowski, however, there is always that constant undertone with him that you absolutely should not listen to what he said. Even he is someone to be rebelled against and disagreed with. He does, after all, remind his readers often of how laser-focused he was with his writing. He let it infatuate him at the expense of all else. He's telling his audience, albeit through rash paradox and a somewhat brazen nihilism, "just fucking do it". "What?" they ask. "It!"

J strikes me as a chap who has adopted an armor of quasi-nihilistic narcissism/emotional detachment to defend him from the traumas that he’s experienced in his life, and has as a result become so detached from his own feelings that he’s become detached from the feelings of others yet is simultaneously aware of this and so he wears his emotional callousness like a badge of honor. I once had a very close friend like J. He had what a lot of people would consider a great childhood but just went through a number of traumatic things that led to him adopting this “hardcore detached nihilist, nothing matters but what I want” attitude. I’ve known a lot of people like J and there is always a reason that they are the way they are. They are trying to believe this front more than anyone else. There is a self-imposed mental block of detachment and indifference because it's the only way they know how to process feelings. It's deeply saddening.

Mark, I just want you to know that this video was extremely important for me. This type of interviewee is not your main focus on your channel and I completely understand that. There are so many addictions, lifestyles and struggles that people are going through, it has to be near impossible to cover them all. Your work helps so many people, interviewees and viewers alike. I'm in my early 30's and I have never thought of Nihilism before in my life, or really even understood what it meant. I found myself connecting with things he was saying and it has brought things to life in my mind I didn't know or understand. I've never had a role model, or family support and as I grew I constructed my own view of reality. It caused a lot of pain and suffering for myself and for others. I could never afford counseling and really had no desire to seek help anyways. I was lucky enough to stumble upon your interviews, and they've become almost like therapy for me. They have unlocked something inside me. I just enrolled in counseling one day a week for the foreseeable future. It is expensive, and my insurance doesn't cover it, but I have to look past that. I had my first appointment, and the counselor let me talk and talk, and towards the end of the session, hit me with a few bombshells that really took me by surprise. Things I needed to hear. Now I have all these thoughts and emotions running through my mind that I've never really dealt with before. The counselor gave me work to do to get ready for the next session, and I'm working hard at it.
I guess what I really wanted to say to everyone who watches your interviews, watch as many as you can. Keep an open mind. These interviews are better than what any classroom or self help book you can read. These are real people with real lives, real struggles and real viewpoints. Mark asks the right questions and allows people to openly discuss what they're going through. As a viewer, you can pick up things here and there that directly relate to what you may be going through and give you insight that no one else has ever given you.
I wish all your interviewees the best. You really are helping Mark, I didn't know there was people like you out there.

This is an honest interview and, if you have the ability to read between the lines, I think he's being much more vulnerable than some people are giving him credit for. As a child he was constantly rejected by his peers after continually trying to fit in, so he decided to reject the world first. It's very painful to be aware or intelligent enough to understand you don't fit in, but unable to understand how to no matter what you do. The dynamic he had as a sort of reverse-pimp shows that deep down, he just wants to be loved and accepted like everyone. Like most self-proclaimed villains (that aren't innate psychopaths), it's villainy, arrogance, pessimism, nihilism, etc. as defense mechanism. He as much as revealed that himself if not in so many words.

J reminds me of a friend I had at school, incredibly intelligent, incredibly manipulative, friendly yet hostile at all times, a part of the group yet distanced himself, showed no fear in all situations, didn't care who he upset or hurt, and was sure enough later diagnosed as having narcissism and bipolar.
He moved abroad and we lost touch, but I caught up with him for a few months when he found out we were living in the same city. We bonded again great, hilarious times to be fair, amazing conversations about literature, music, art and films, but in all honesty he was never warm, just jovial, like this man is. The kind of guy you always knew had a switch lying somewhere deep inside him you did not want to even pretend to approach.

I don’t want to disrespect the struggles this man has actually gone through, but I get the impression he’s embellishing much of the story, if not outright lying.
He claims to have been a straight-A student, gang enforcer, drug smuggler, pimp, writer, feared abuser, womanizer, extremely intelligent, and a villain that has never suffered or even believes in depression.
I would be truly shocked if anyone from the streets, or drug game, or pimp game knows who he is and vouches for him.
He even made a comment about “other people” who are outcasts or misfits, that invent lies about themselves which even they begin to believe. That’s a confession, not an observation.
Again, I don’t intend any hate with this. However, most of his story, along with his self-descriptions are so lurid and edgy that they appear cartoonish. Claiming he can manipulate and hurt anybody “if I wanted to” is just such an obvious coping mechanism against feelings of powerlessness and inadequacy. If he was really that brilliant, he’d understand this all sounds like a comic book villain backstory. He’s not going to fool everyone.
