      When I was in law school I had a fellow student who always had his Korean-to-English dictionary next to him when he was studying. Now he is a fantastically successful attorney in Korea. It took him extra work, but it can be done. Big suggestion - that I still follow to this day even though I am a native English speaker: have someone else proofread for you. You know how once in awhile you see a funny translation on a sign in another country or when reading instructions that came from China? That can happen to even the best ESL student and if you had someone that would offer to proofread for you they could catch anything goofy.

      Great question! I met with those professors during undergrad and told them that I was planning on law school in the future, and would be asking them for rec letters when I applied.
      And then once I was ready to apply I emailed them and attached a current resume, and let them know what I'd been up to. I also refreshed their memory on my time with them in undergrad in that email as well.
      They were super willing to help, and most had done the same with other students before!

    I am currently a psychology major- minoring in philosophy as well. I am 23 years old, and about to get my bachelors next year- I'll be 24. I am considering law school after that, but I have some concerns. First, how does one work? Are there any part time decent paying jobs during law school? And secondly, just how demanding is law school? Will I be able to go out for beers, watch some hockey? Haha! These are just some concerns of mine... any advice?

    • @JennMartinVlogs
      @JennMartinVlogs  4 года назад +7

      Hey Eric! Many law schools do not let you work during your first semester. However, from there, you can clerk at a law firm part-time for decent pay, and many schools will give you course credit for that as well!
      As for how demanding it is, I would say it's as demanding as you want it to be. There is always work to do, but I definitely have time to relax, watch sports, etc. and I haven't fallen behind because of it! I just make sure that when I'm doing school work, I am really focused doing it, being very productive.
      So I guess my advice would just be to get as good as you can at managing your time and focusing on a task before law school, that way you can maximize your time once you are in law school if you decide to go!

    How you know when you want cto be lawyer

  • @WarrenGoodin
    @WarrenGoodin 4 года назад +1

    Does where you go to undergrad matter for law school, or is just GPA/LSAT? Like would a law school take a 3.7 from Colombia over a 3.9 from UC Riverside?

    • @JennMartinVlogs
      @JennMartinVlogs  4 года назад

      As a general rule, schools look more for a high GPA than where the GPA came from. However, I'd imagine any admissions person would take note if you went to a very tough undergrad school!

      Yes, I believe so. But either way, you want to have a high GPA.

    do you have to be super outgoing to become a lawyer?

    • @aalegalfocus

      Not necessarily but it helps when interviewing and getting clients to be friendly and talkative.

    • @JennMartinVlogs

      Nope! You do have to do a bit of public speaking in law school, but there are fields of transactional law you can go into that don't involve it.

    • @JennMartinVlogs
      @JennMartinVlogs  4 года назад +1

      Definitely not! Just try and get a good GPA and as much writing experience as possible, but I usually find law schools don't care too much about your undergrad major!

    Advice to Entering 1Ls: First, DO NOT wait two weeks before midterms or finals to start outlining. Second, keep the essays simple. Use IRAC and treat the reader like a 5th grader who doesn’t know shit about law.
