      Most of my professors are pretty reasonable! A lot of them wanted to change how much was assigned from when they were in law school bc they found it to be so much it wasn’t even helpful. So most of my classes assign about 20-30 pages per class, which I find doable

      study for the SAT to set yourself up for success in undergrad. Your college major/ extracurriculars dont actually matter that much but your grades do so just make sure you're putting in the work and getting good grades.

    • @SmileforaSecond
      @SmileforaSecond 3 года назад

      I agree. Your college grades do matter so just make sure you do well in whatever program you choose. I also recommend finding a school that has a good LSAT prep course. Unfortunately, Law school admissions offices still care about this ridiculous test so in addition to getting good grades in college, you have to do well on this.

    I wonder is law school worth going too bc most people don’t get top paying jobs unless they go to a top tier law school or are top of there class. Furthermore, there are more lawyers than Jobs available. The average law student is $100k in student loan debt. Im a senior in college Econ major and I consider law school till I say the tuition. Then I realize I can potentially make more than I lawyer if I work 50-80 hour shifts per week. While trading stocks and puts in the morning. I have a co worker who trades in the morning he already has over 800k in his account.

    • @aalegalfocus
      @aalegalfocus 4 года назад +2

      I am glad to see that you are weighing the pros and cons of going to law school. It's not any sort of guarantee of a high-paying job, much less having any job in the legal field, given how saturated the job market is. My general opinion is that it is not worth it to take out loans to go to an expensive private law school unless it's one of the top in the nation. If you really want to go to law school, just go to your state school to save money.

    Hi I’m planning to pursuing law and becoming a corporate lawyer. What undergrad major would you recommend because I’m thinking of doing political science?

    • @SmileforaSecond
      @SmileforaSecond 3 года назад +1

      You should study whatever you want in undergrad. The choice of selecting a major will not really influence whether you start practicing any type of law, except if you intern somewhere and make professional connections that you can use later while you are in law school and after you graduate. I Recommend just trying to get corporate internships as soon as possible when you are actually in law school. That is the most direct path to landing a corporate law job after graduation. Honestly, that is the most direct path to landing a job in any area of law after you graduate.

    Does law school consist of writing a lot of papers? Or does it depend on the types of classes you take?

    • @JennMartinVlogs
      @JennMartinVlogs  4 года назад +1

      Depends on the classes you take! 1L year you’ll have to take a writing course both fall and spring semesters, but after that it’s up to you if you take writing courses. My school requires you to fulfill some writing requirements to graduate, but those papers don’t necessarily need to be done for a class. So it’s pretty much up to you!

    • @SmileforaSecond
      @SmileforaSecond 3 года назад

      Not at all! You should do what interests you in college. Your 1L year is going to toss you into completely new territory regardless. I practice operations law for the federal government, and it is actually a running joke that lawyers are not good at math. That’s because many lawyers chose to study political science, government affairs, national security, etc. But having a background in finance can be incredibly helpful for many areas of law, depending on what you want to practice.

    What are some ways you can beef up your resume?

    • @JennMartinVlogs
      @JennMartinVlogs  4 года назад

      Extracurriculars and volunteering are great for resume building. Also professors often need volunteers to help with research which is good for your resume and to get to know a professor. Also blogs and websites often use freelance writers for their content so that’s an easy way to add something and earn some extra money as well!

      Also if you know the area of work you might be interested in pursuing, try to get internships at a relevant business or organization. For example, if you are interested in government work, you could intern at a federal organization or with Congress over the summer. When people are looking for employees these days, experience as what they want more than anything.

    • @JennMartinVlogs
      @JennMartinVlogs  4 года назад

      That would be the one instance where I would maybe choose classes based on time or day. I know some of my classmates with children batch their classes so that they only have school 2 or 3 days a week, which helps. And for both expenses and scheduling, talk to your school! Let them know any scheduling or financial difficulties you’re having and see what they can do for you as far as financial aid, lifting working requirements, and helping you get the schedule you want!

    I want to second your recommendation to pick elective classes based on what will give you the best GPA. I violated this rule myself and learned my lesson. I wanted to practice business-related law so I took Corporate Taxation. There were 13 people in the class and I quickly learned that 11 of them were CPAs. How to you think the grading curve went in that situation? Yep. Law school is truly non-specialized, as a matter of fact, if you plan to practice in an area you probably won't practice in that area because you got a job where they had work doing something else, and all of a sudden you became a "something else" lawyer.

    • @starfallcity4739

      Don't you have to deal with same strategic thinking when applying to "something else lawyer"? Nowadays world has more pressure on you to learn on agile pace. I think this is appreciated. You being acquainted on how one side of this system works and adapt to the other side.

      @aalegalfocus 4 года назад

      Really depends on where you work and what area of law. If you do criminal defense, work as a prosecutor or do traffic law, you will be in court almost every day. Family law practitioners also go to court often. Others are typically in the office drafting documents, dealing with clients, and/or doing research.

      In my experience, most professors we’re not going to have a particular dress code, so people came to class wearing anything from business suits to pajamas. But really I think it’s about the impression you want to make. Sometimes your professors will be in credible resources for professional contacts, so going to their classes in pajamas would probably not be the best idea. If you are going to an internship or a conference that your law school is holding, I highly recommend wearing much more formal attire.

      Anything that might be law related would be good. I took a business law class geared toward college students which was helpful.

    I left a comment on one other video. I have legal troubles and I really do need a lawyer. Do you want to litigate? It's not cheap.
    You litigate for clients? Saving a buck by not getting a real lawyer (and just a person who freshly passed the bar exam) doesn't sound smart.
    I can be rich when rich is needed, okay Ms Martin? I'm only 20

      Nope, no idea. I thought it would be online but the school’s communications make it seem like it’ll be in person sooo we’ll see!

      It is a hybrid. You can either go in person or attend via a Zoom-based product they are calling ASUSync. If more than half the people in the class want to attend in person they will divide those people in half and each half will attend a different day so they can maintain spacing in the room.
