Well it's actually probably original, the names listed on Spotify as people working on this song is Urthboy (T Levinson, Bertie Blackman (lady who is singing in this song but not in "all our exes live in Texas" trio both of which are great in their own careers too) a songwriter called Pip Norman who I didn't know existed until today and has a very interesting and diverse musical career, and a little production Duo called HERMITUDE who kickass and were everywhere in 2015 with a song called the buzz and have been one of those to know bands consisting of Angus Stuart and Like Dubbs (who's on the keys in this video)
And the only other credit to that song is "R. Charles" so unless there's a Ray Charles song reworked in there that I don't know, it was probably all original content hope this helps

Cool song but it doesn't really convey the tone of the story that well. John Killick was a sad old prick who wrecked his kids childhood by spending it in prison. Lucy Dudko was an easily led woman who'd dreamed of great things but never had the creativity or the balls make them happen. And he cheated on his wife with Lucy when he was out on remand.
The song makes them sound sorta romantic, when really they were just a couple of sad old losers!
And how do I know this? I was sorta involved in the case! I worked at the video store where Lucy hired seven weeklies for $7 the week before the break-out. Six movies were about prison escapes, and the seventh was a comedy romance.
I appeared in court as a witness because I'd hired them the videos and signed them up...Lucy was sitting in the witness box, looking like she'd rather be watching Oprah. Not that romantic!
+James Mccallum - This song is written from Lucy Dudko's perspective. And the section of time that he is singing about would have been quite romantic. That doesn't mean that the whole thing wasn't fucked up and that people weren't hurt.
