If an avatar dies in the avatar state, the cycle is destroyed. It's what Red Lotus wanted to do with Korra/Raava. It's also not entirely clear if Vaatu can rise again, because if defeated, Raava or Vaatu would slowly regenerate inside each other. That was the thing until Wan came and not only bonded with Raava but also sealed Vaatu. It could be that Vaatu can only rise again if the avatar cycle is broken.
Even a show like this just HAS TO have the classic cliche of light=good and darkness=bad, even if they don't always have to line up with each other. You don't have to agree, that's just my opinion🙂!

Maybe, but Unalaq should have had a moment where he realized just how little power over Vaatu that he had, and that he'd become nothing more than a slave to Vaatu's will. The concept of a Dark Avatar was completely wasted here. We all wanted a Dark Avatar and what we got was a second rate bad guy who's final battle became a kaiju match. For no good reason other than needing to up the ante. First off he was an incomplete Avatar since the Avatar is supposed to be able to bend all elements. Man got water and a laser. As opposed to the season 4 final boss who got the same laser but arm mounted and made of metal. Both even had armies at their disposal. One of dark spirits, don't get me started on those, and one of Metal Benders.
Wan and Raava fused because that was the only way they could win against the spirit of pain perversion and chaos. Unalaq was never standing before a choice. Even if we truly wanted to bring balance, he could be friends with avatar, but that was not in his nature. Unalaq has always been a vile, pathetic, miserable and evil man, who in his overbloated ego wanted to bastardize the role of avatar. He never cared about well-being of anyone. He just wanted to be number 1. The moment when Wan and Raava fused was painful, dramatic, tragic even but right. I think it would've been better, and more karmic, if Vaatu had betrayed Unalaq, and turned him into a slave to his will. When Unalaq calls Vaatu out on going back on their agreement, Vaatu would ask Unalaq just what he was expecting when he released an EVIL being. Evil Is Not A Toy.

Maybe, but Unalaq should have had a moment where he realized just how little power over Vaatu that he had, and that he'd become nothing more than a slave to Vaatu's will. Vaatu certainly wasn't going to do what Unalaq wanted, and he was helpess to do anything about. Unalaq got what he wanted, only to find it to be worse than he ever imagined. I even had an idea where it would be revealed that Unalaq never even actually conversed with Vaatu prior to this. All those scenes where Unalaq was talking to Vaatu were just in his head, because Unalaq is delusional.

There’s two avatars shape.
1) Avatar state.( to possess the ravaa or vatuu energy)
2) Avatar form.( completely combine with the spirit. The ultimate form of an avatar if they win the war during harmonic convergence. The only time we saw this is Vatuu and unalaq) in avatar form. They can even blast a powerful spirit energy.
Imagine if Vaatu had pulled a Muzan Kibitsuji and fused himself with Korra and in a sense fused himself with the future avatars or made something like the avatar but the opposite of the avatar
In the end unalaq was killed by Korra during the dark avatar state so will vatuu be reborn in ravaa or be reincarnated i would honestly like the idea of the next avatar fighting with his evil self or something
There won't be any dark avatar reborn anytime soon after unalaq's death because Unalaq died during the avatar state, both unalaq and vaatu were completely destroyed since unalaq died under the avatar state. It will take 10,000 years for vaatu to resurface or reborn to raava inside one of the the future avatars. The only reason why Raava got reborn inside vaatu so fast is because of Jinora's energy light appeared in front of giant unalaq
The part Vaatu fused with Unalaq is menacing and looks painful compared to the fusion of Wan and Raava.
I think bc wan and raava fused in the real word it hurt more than when wan and raava fused in the spirit realm meaning where the actual convergence happen. (I mean harmonic convergence only happen in the spirit realm).In order for the transition to be completed you must after (convergence with either spirit) touch one of 2 the spirit beams become one like they showed.

Korra purified Unalaq when he was in the Avatar State so, in theory, there's no Dark Avatar cycle.

The concept of a Dark Avatar was completely wasted here. We all wanted a Dark Avatar and what we got was a second rate bad guy who's final battle became a kaiju match. For no good reason other than needing to up the ante. First off he was an incomplete Avatar since the Avatar is supposed to be able to bend all elements. Man got water and a laser. As opposed to the season 4 final boss who got the same laser but arm mounted and made of metal. Both even had armies at their disposal. One of dark spirits, don't get me started on those, and one of Metal Benders.

Unalaq was never standing before a choice. Even if we truly wanted to bring balance, he could be friends with avatar, but that was not in his nature. Unalaq has always been a vile, pathetic, miserable and evil man, who in his overbloated ego wanted to bastardize the role of avatar. He never cared about well-being of anyone. He just wanted to be number 1.
The moment when Wan and Raava fused was painful, dramatic, tragic even but right. The fusion of Unalaq and Vaatu felt like I watched the biggest pervert in the world getting something big up his a**. Just looking at his children was enough for me to understand what this man was. What kind of a father you have to be to get your kids so cold, controlling and apathetic?

You know, this scene makes me wondering, if when the avatar dies the spirit of light, Raava, passes into the body of another human creating a new human, will this happen with Vaatu too now that he too bonded with a human?
I think for this case it depends on how Unavaatu "dies".
I think in this case, Vaatu will be reborn inside of Raava later instead of instantly being reincarnated.

It would be interesting to see that the dark avatar cycle works as the opposite of the avatar cycle and instead of an earth bender we get an airbending dark avatar, since the first one was a waterbender

Because wan got them from the lion turtle and raava carried them on to the next avatar. But vaatu and unalaq never did that. Korra still has bending because raava gave it to her. Raava doesn't have bending, she just "gives it" to the Avatars.

Like if vaatu was never vanquished and raava was never reborn, like vaatu would then jump into another bender with 1 element and then when raava does regenerate, the other avatar cycle starts and then everytime harmonic convergence comes, the battle would be between avatars. Like that would be sick af
