Thank you Paul for all of the videos, they are very helpful.
Thanks Alex! Glad you like them! Many more to come
Yeah helpful advice : just don't do certain things and you'll be fine. Very helpful
Tis Irish Bob saying hello
Thank you for this informative segment. Well done.

Thats good information, i am also having the same condition of Prepatellar bursuitis, please make a video again on reducing the lump
I think I got the same thing. Tripped on my slide-on 1,5 weeks ago. First few days I couldn't even stretch it out fully. Now I can almost stretch it out fully, but not bend it more than 90 degrees.
Thank you very much. Subscribed. Nick the Greek.
I have a question please. I had an emg done with findings of psw on root L4-5 on both legs. No other muscles tested on my legs showed any. Would this be a sign of a pinched nerve or back issue etc. The conclusion of the emg was evidence found for bilateral L5 radiculopathy. Thank you very much.
I'm recovering from a strained quad and oh my gosh the inflammation and pain has been mind blowing. I wrecked my quad cycling and it's been a month already and since it happened and it's just one day at a time.
Is there any lump above kneecap?
I also have quad tendonpathy but there's a lump above kneecap and there's also crackling sound whenever i tried to do squat.
@@adityaranjannayak6339 A huge lump right above the kneecap, bruising and extreme tenderness. It's been about 2 1/2 months and I still get aches and pains. No cracking sounds though. I hope you feel better soon.
@@MicheleBohmke thanks mate for confirmation
I think my case is same as you.Icing helps my swelling come down a lot but there's still some pain though
I believe I have just that right now. It's pretty warm and swollen. That's the inflammated area I suppose. How long did your recovery take? My day today was terrible.
Perfect ❤️
Thanks Khalid!
Hi Paul - I have suffered a knee injury three weeks ago and got MRI done where it says edema or full thickness ACL tear, meniscus grade 1 tear. I have started on a non-surgical rehab program with some muscle strengthening exercises and started experiencing the same pain that your patient described in this video. A sharp pain on the upper portion of the patella with slight swelling. Is this pain due to injury that I have had or is it something new problem that has started? Should there be any exercises that I should avoid or start?
I have the same problem now. How did you treat it?
I have swelling in my knee ..knee bursties.. doctor said me to take 3 weeks rest n keep icing
If I have knee swelling from hiking and knee pain on and off since before that, should I see a doctor or a physio?
Would you apply ice or heat, or neither?
That's what I've got bt it keeps coming back it heals then 3 weeks later its back soooo painful...was told not to kneel .But once its better and I start to kneel again it just goes straight back
Same in exercise and it goes away then 4 days later it comes back feels like im getting a nail hammered in my kneecap
@@hambungers yeah I extracted the cyst out over a year but now it’s back.😢
@@katzzzzz668 dang I dont have a cyst but I the fluid filled sacks that keep your joints from grinding are overfilled
@@katzzzzz668 feel bad for you
Thank you so much. But can you tell how long does it take to heal this?
Sometimes I have it for a few days, sometimes two weeks. Depending I'd I can rest it
I woke up last Monday with my knee feeling sore and after working all day, the next day it was extremely stiff and painful. After rest and ice the pain is gone but stiffness still there, especially when walking upstairs and walking backwards. What could this be ?
How would you differentiate this from suprapatellar bursitis? Not that it matters much, I imagine treatment would be the same...
Exactly! I would treat them the the same way.
I got this suddenly today while warming up for a deadlift. Recently started deadlifting again from a long break, so my legs aren't used to it quite yet. Was only doing 60kg, but suddenly I started getting pain above the patella when putting weight on the knee joint. Stopped after like 4 reps. Took a pause and started doing other bodyweight exercises that put weight on the knee joint, and the pain was there from the first rep (stopped immediately when the pain presented itself). Only pain when putting pressure on it, normal ROM, bicycling is currently fine at a low/medium pace...
Don't take any painkillers/nsaids for this and continue exercising as normal, that'll only lead to worsening of the condition! Exercise around the injury and let the tissue rest/rehabilitate
Must be so nice to have this kinda insurance
What would cause knee cap pain if you haven't hit it? Whatever is going on it feels weird and loose and moves a bit more than the other knee. When I bend it, it feels like its burning or something is being stretched too much, and this is from a simple movement like getting out of a car or getting out of bed or getting up out of a chair sometimes.
Have the same issue dont know what it is
You ever figure out what it was that cause or how to fix it ???
@@Mr.logic1234 I haven't no but my body is doing some weird things with pain. My muscles feel like they've been worked out excessively and don't heal properly, they feel like this all the time. I have weird joint aches and pains on top of my spondy back pain and problems. I think its low T to be honest but the threshold to be considered for low T in ontario has been lowerd from 300 to 200 in the last few years so being at 299 they won't prescribe me any T gel. But I think that is what it is.
If Im not mistaken the threshold in the u.s is still 300 for low T. It causes joint pains, osteo arthristis, brain fog/memory issues and muscle pain in the sense that they always seem sore like they never heal after a workout even though you never worked out.
@@tjl8884I think mine might be from Low at as well
Did u figure it out yet?
has nothing to do with "low t" buddy just say u want steroids 🤣

Is there a specific functional assessment scale for prepatellar bursitis?
Hi Dr. I was wondering what kind of medicine can you take to help relieving or any source of cream to help massaging the pain
I like Voltaren
I had an impact to my knee cap . Not even sure how but a sore spot . Didn't bother me unless I pressed on it . 2 days later my knee blew up on a easy bike ride . Been the same for 5 days now . Just Ice and Ibuprofen helps
what do you mean by blew up?
@@finley8015 My knee got so painful it locked up . It's recovered now .
My knee essentially locked up . Could not pedal any more
Was you're knee swelling like a ball
I'm 62 and still play sport and couple of weeks ago dived to stop a ball. A day or so later I went to do some exercise with an Ab roller and found I couldn't kneel because of there was a point on my knee cap that was real painful. No other pain doing anything else. A couple of days later same thing. This time I had a feel around with my fingers poking trying to isolate where the pain was coming from and it seems to be a very small spot within the skin over the top of the knee. No swelling, no discolouration - just real soreness/pain within the layers of the skin over the knee cap. Any idea what that might be?
You described my feeling exactly. Both knees actually. A slightly warm very sharp pain if I put slight pressure on the skin of kneecap like you said. Any new info?
@@condorcoaching8267 One of the blokes I play with is a doctor and I spoke to him about it, I'd already looked around for other explanations and found 'Bursitis' pretty much fitted the description. I described it to him and he pretty much confirmed it was almost certainly a Bursitis. He said the main thing to do is rest it, ice it and don't allow it to be impacted in anyway. I didn't get to the point where I opted to ice it, because without any impact or poking it, it was fine. So, all I've done is eased back with the exercise a little and avoided kneeling on it and its fine now. I did continue to play cricket during this period but had no reason to dive or impact it thankfully. He did mention that sometimes they can hang around for quite some time. I think mine was problematic for about 2 months.
I have the same please help us to get rid of it please
@@manikandan_369 Rest it for a couple of months and definitely don't kneel on it or cause it anymore trauma. Ice it three times a day (Try and submerge it in water with a lot of ice in - e.g. an ice bath for 15 mins at a time) and elevate your leg when resting.
Same here. Exquisite sharp pain on surface of the knee cap. Walking up and down stairs is the worst. If I jump off elevated surface onto ground it kills! But hyper flexing/stretching the knee no pain at all. Very strange.
Can knee bursitis cause by putting pressure near the knee cap area ?
Good question whats the answer
I have same issue i live in nyc also i am a runner
if u were my professor I would have been a different clinician altogether
Hi Bipul, Thanks!
I banged my knee on the hitch of a truck real good. Days 1-3, not so bad..no swelling or discoloration but small, small bruise on outside. Now, all around my knee has random pain and it's causing me to lose sleep. I've had trouble climbing up into the backhoe at work too. Like a chord that wraps all around from my knee to my buttocks is affected. So I thought maybe I bruised the sciatica but idk
Hi Charles, First thing I have to say is. DAMN HITCHES!!! Number 2- We should have our calves on the front of our legs 🤣🤣 You may have hyperextended your knee and yes, your sciatic nerve could have been aggravated. If it persists, get it checked
You have an interesting accent...are you French Canadian? You sound like Jonathan Pageau
I'm injured had ot for months goes and comes back
Doc, hey from Europe! I’m 17 and I think I my diagnosis is bursitis of knee, the swelling came in 2 weeks ago, after I moved my leg really quick, (surprisingly, muscles are fine) I’ve done physiotherapy(6sessions), , swelling doesn’t go away. is it advisable to move knee while sitting on a table, when to help the swelling go away or do any other kind of movement ??? Or I should keep it without pressure at all?
Once again, it’s been 2 weeks, knee is still swelling
Range of motion is full, but swelling is not going away
Hi, how r you doing? Has it become better?
@@youmaddymyday physiotherapy and time healed all in 3 weeks. Then I had to strengthen to leg after it was in immobilisation and that’s it. You are likely gonna be alright
@@Jaa_morant thank you 🙏🏻
@@youmaddymyday feel better after 3 weeks man?
I have this lump in my leg too 😢😢😢 so I can’t get sturdy no more 😂😂😂
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I have a question, aren't muscle tears tested with isometric resistance in loose packed position? why did you check Quads' tears by getting him to raise the leg up?
The quad has to work to keep the knee in extension, plus if there would be a quad rupture, the knee would fall into flexion. 2 diagnostic tools in one. Good question.
@@OrthoEvalPal what if I hit my knee on the wall and develop a small bruise the size of a tip of a thumb finger but no swelling at all . It did hurt on impact but went away until I went to the gym and did cardio for a hour but just walking and cycling . The next few days it got hard to walk and walk up and down steps (took about 4 days to develop symptoms) . I can bring my knee to my chest and cross my legs but waking , steps and when my knee Is straight while sleeping the front and bottom of my knee cap hurts .
Sir I am 55 years female. I have pain and swelling below left knee patella. It is warm and tender but not red. As you show in this video, my patella movements are not painful and I can flex and straighten my knee. Pain has gradually increased. I had backache problem too for few months due to which I had to sleep on hard board bed on my abdomen. This posture of sleeping relief backache. But doing so put pressure on the front side of this left knee. Initially I thought it is patellofemoral syndrome and started exercises as shown in some RUclips videos. But those exercised have worsen the knee pain and swelling. Sir please suggest what should I do. Is it brusitis or patellofrmoral syndrome? Please reply whenever you got time. Sorry for this lenthy comment and wasting your time. ❤
There are many diagnosis associated to the front of the knee. It could be patella tendinitis or a couple other things. You should get a good diagnosis and then treat it accordingly.
👍

Which types of modalities can be used to decrease inflammation.?
Don't ask the doc in this vid, he obviously doesn't want anyone to prevent or minimize inflammation. He'd just advise you to lay on your couch and reschedule an appointment with him in 2 weeks, lame.

I’m an minor, I accidentally tripped on a parking lot and my knee landed on the ground, the ground was cement, I wanna know if my kneecaps are fine because I can’t move my leg properly and it hurts when I move, is it something serious? I’m so worried..

So he basically bruised his knee.
He basically seeked medical advice and got a lay on the couch and watch TV recommendation for treatment. I wouldn't even pay someone for advice like that, much less ask for further info
Rather passive and lazy advice to just tell someone not to do things without any other recommendations to increase recovery. Any person, whether a medical professional or not, could've handed this guy the same recommendation for "treatment".
@@RYRHYMES How do you cure unhelpful and lazy advice? It's simple....just conform to unhelpful and lazy, and either pay $150 an hour for this advice or you are committing sin against the dogma of Ry's beliefs.
