I’m 72 and I had physical therapy for both knees which are arthritic...I AVOIDED KNEE REPLACEMENTS and after a few weeks of regular p.t. Exercises I was able to avoid pain. I started this a couple years ago and still do it a couple times a week to keep the pain away.

So you have no bone on bone arthritis in your knee x-rays? That’s great if you’re 72! But if it’s bone on bone, goodbye! Get your knees replaced unless you want miserable life full of pain and limited mobility. I’m 55 and finally surrendering to the knife next month after over 5 years of suffering.

I was a healthy and active 44 year old male until 3 months back when I came down with knee pain and swelling. It was meniscus tear in the left knee and MRI scans have detected osteo-arthritis in both knees (grade2-3) as well. Now I have all of these symptoms. I am just 44 and not able to come to terms with this...I am not overweight nor have I been in the past.

I’m 55 years old, 6 feet tall, weigh 192-197 most of the time, go to the gym 4-5 days a week, exercise on a cross trainer for 30-45 minutes, sit in a sauna afterwards for 15-20 minutes, downhill ski all winter, mostly, but have stopped doing it. And I drink a gallon of water all day at work working as a chef. For the past 5-7 years, I’ve suffered knee pain, tried synvisc injections, cortisone, with little or no relief and just sucking it up. I’m done and going under the knife next month for a total knee replacement. Diet is just a bandaid. Not everybody has had an easy life working a white-collar job hitting the gym to keep fit into middle age. My right knee is bone on bone in the medial and middle compartments and left knee bone on bone in the medial compartment. The first needs to be done; it’s pain and suffering the first month, but it’ll probably be better than what I’ve been through!

@@beachgurltarot3228 yes! I had my surgery 4 weeks ago today. 2 nights in the hospital and used a Walker to get around the house the first week. Got off the narcotic’s after a little over a week. Only use ibuprofen and acetaminophen 2-3 times daily and one of those ice buckets you plug in,
tape the cord to your knee, and let it sit there. The hardest part is doing all your exercises. I lift and bend a lot, but rely mostly on my physical therapist to do it for me. I can get around just fine now and will be able to drive again soon, just a lot of tightness mostly in my thighs. Otherwise doing well.

I work for a physical therapy clinic. I'm not a physical therapist but I've worked with many. With the knee like some people have said moving it and stretching it are good. But also and probably most importantly you need to strengthen that knee.
For many people they haven't worked out in years so you can start with simple things like squats without weight. Now of course everyone has a pain tolerance and everyone should go to what they can tolerate so really no more than a 3 or a 4 max. You can also do simple things like stairs. You only need 1 step and you can step up and down. You can hold onto a railing especially at first but eventually you should become strong enough to where you can do without.
You can always go physical therapy, knee arthritis is easier to treat than you might think. The therapist is going to do a lot of hands on things like moving the knee into flexion (bending) and extension (straightening) if you have a very low pain tolerance have a doctor do prp or gel shot first before therapy. However long term I don't think it's a good idea to keep getting shots onto the knee. So I or two in the beginning should be enough and by the time it wears off that knee should be strong enough where' the pain is reduced to a minimum.
Sorry this is super long if there's anything you didn't understand or have questions about free to respond. 👍

Oh yes! As a therapist we treat these all the time and most will see some improvement but there are some that will not tolerate anything at all and require surgery. That’s only my two cents from 30 years of experience. I’m also a big advocate of prehab and patients usually do much better afterwards if they have been in therapy before. Thanks for the comment.

Hi there,This is Rhea, the maketing manager from a brand of suit pant. We specialize in the production of trousers. After a lot of survey, we noticed that many customers encounter many problems when buying suit pant, including size or waist inadaptaion, resistance and washability...
For problems, we have specially developed a pair of pants that can reduce pressure, using Ice Silk Cotton (nylon 81.8, spandex 18.2), having great elasticity and adjustable waist, which allows users to move more. Conventional trousers will compress joints, causing pain and swelling, and inconvenience in movement. I'm 30 years old and when I was 22 I had an MRI done and they diagnosed me with osteoarthritis in my knees. Mine lock every so often and it's pretty frustrating and limits my mobility when it does happen (may be a few days, has gone on for months before). My knee cap pops every time I bend my knee but not always the "good" pop. What are some good ways to alleviate this? Thanks

    • @mikeyp4690

I get the same pop, upwards of 50+ times a day.
I've always been active and sorely worried about how this will impact the longevity of me continuing to ride my skateboard.
Sucks to have it at this age.

I have exactly the same as you! Except I'm 49!
At age 38, I had an arthoroscopy on my left knee, followed by a procedure called microfracture (pretty invasive).
I then had another arthroscopic, a scrape and then I needed an ACL repair.
11 years on, I'm starting to suffer pretty badly with the knee in question. Like you, it will lock for days before it clicks and pops and it feels free again and minimal discomfort. It's done this for years but lately it's longer before it starts to click out. I've been in great discomfort for the last 3 weeks. I'm wearing sports tape or knee supports every day. I have to do knee exercises every day, no skipping them).
My knee, as well as a torn shoulder and adductor muscle in my left thigh, is the absolute bane of my life. I'm seeing my physio again tomorrow. My Chiropractor doesn't help my knee.
I have tried everything. I fear a knee replacement is on the cards in the, not so near, future! 😒
Sorry you're going through this too. It's a total misery and limits me (a usually highly active person) so much. I hope you heal x

This is absolutely terrifying for me. My left knee was just diagnosed with osteoarthritis. I'm 51 and very active. First real signs were a weakening of the knee where I simply couldn't squat anymore. That went on for about 6 months. After dancing at a concert a month ago, the inside area of my knee started flaring up with tender pain. I associated it with wearing less supportive shoes. I took a week off of work, did the whole RICE bit, didn't do a thing. So yeah, doctor time. Got my diagnosis and here I am. I'm wearing a knee brace, tried Tylenol Arthritis, which did nothing, but the brace keeps my knee straighter and allows me to work at least. All this possibly stems from a knee injury 25 years ago playing sports. It could be worse, I could have it in both knees, and it could be raining. I am playing with CBD and I THINK it allowed me to walk with full leg range of motion without pain. I'll know after more doses and days at work. I have 14 more years to work...

Knee arthritis can be quite incapacitating. Try to keep the surrounding the musculature strong without causing an increase in knee pain.

I hear you! All I want to is to be able to go to work with as little pain as possible. I’m working on the pain thing without getting addicted and be able to function. 😢

Update: CBD is a placebo IMO, didn’t do a thing whereas THC rushes to it…but you’re high so that doesn’t help during work. Pain has subsided a bit since diagnosis but I think like most arthritis issues, it will waiver back and forth.

34 years ago l had 3 surgeries on my left knee and 2 surgeries on my right knee after I broke both knees simultaneously while playing basketball at the YMCA after a freakish injury after a sudden jump stop move proved too forceful for my knees as they both snapped instantly. My doctors had never heard of such an injury involving both knees while playing basketball.. This included a near fatal case of toxic shock syndrome when my left knee became infected while my wounds were healing. For the next 20 years I had knee pain and stiffness off and on. Then I decided to focus on changing my mindset as well as exercise and a healthy diet (losing 40 pounds in the process) and that was a game changer. Today at 55 years old I have virtually no knee pain or stiffness and I'm in the best shape of my adult life. Now I'm a wellness coach with the goal of helping others overcome their own similar challenges. Have you heard of a similar injury to the one l experienced? I'm very curious. Thank you

@kford6643 Hello brother, if your message is honest and real it gave us hope. You wrote that you have had knee pain for 20 years. I wonder from what age to what age? What was the pain like, in what situations did it occur? When going up or down stairs? Did it happen when you squat? Besides the pain, was there a crunching sound or a feeling of friction? Can you run or squat right now? What did you do for exercise?
