  • First of all I must profusely apologise for the sound quality on this video. Just over a year ago my videos were quite low quality audio and visually. A year and one month ago I purchased a Blue Yeti Microphone which enhanced the audio quality amazingly. More recently however an incredibly kind and generous subscriber wanted to get new lighting and recording camera for me and all those things combined really pushed the quality of my videos. At the weekend however my Blue Yeti Microphone just stopped working and I was unable to find the problem, this was a £200 Microphone and so I am not in a position to run out and replace it, so unfortunately for this video I have had to use my old Apple headphones hence the terrible audio. I am doing my best to get things back to normal so hopefully you will not have to listen to this audio quality again.
    In this review I take a look at the Arteza Woodless Watercolor Pencils, check out this review to find out more about the pencils and you can also check out my speed drawing to get a better understanding of the pigment strength etc and vibrancy of the pigments when activated with water.

    Donations
    I am not comfortable adding this to my site or RUclips channel. I receive many emails and messages asking me how people can help support The Art Gear Guide, mainly I think due to the fact that I purchase all of the supplies myself, except those sent directly from companies kind enough to do so. I have decided to add a donations button to my site, however, I feel the best way to add such a campaign is as follows, all donations made will be used to purchase art products for review, however, all products purchased using donated funds, after they have been reviewed, will be used as giveaways to subscribers of the RUclips Channel, the web site or any of the above social media platforms. This way I personally will not benefit from financial donations. I have set this channel and site up for my own enjoyment and not profitable gain. I feel with this support method, everyone wins but not in a financial.

    My Own Personal Art
    I would not exactly call myself an artist in the true sense of the word, however I absolutely love art as it has helped me immensely dealing with clinical depression due to my battle with constant chronic pain and disability. Follow the link to check out my own projects bit.ly/2qAa7BN
    Thank You
    Finally, thank you so much for all of your support, without all of you, this channel and The Art Gear Guide would simply not be the same.
    Thank you so much.

    I like the woodless products. I got the derwent aquatone before they discontinued them and they are my favorite but the arteza ones work well with them. They are a step between the awuatine and creatacolor aqua monolithpencils so I keep all of them together in a tin for ease of use. I like to mist a rubber stamp with water and color on the stamp with the pencils and stamp for a gorgeous card that looks water colored. I can even drag some of the color with a wet brush on the paper. It is a fun stamping technique. I think this product might be better suited for stamping, at least that's how I prefer to use it:)

      Btw I did a paint 2 years ago with these and have not seen any fading but it has not been hung in direct light or anything.

    Harry - next time you have plastic packaging like that to open - use a hand crank can opener on the edge - works like a dream and no opportunity for a knife slip

    Very nice although I hope to create a package with more colors. As usual, accurate review and very nice drawing. I like the wood-free watercolor from KOH-I-NOOR there.

    I agree Harry about the 2 shades being labelled the wrong way around. Ironically I have just used these 2 colours in another range and I would definitely agree you are right. Blessings.

    OH, and I really love the color selection here...they did very well imo! I own the CDache palette also, what a team they make with the waterbrushes, which I have also replaced, set # 2. I wore out the first set, lol!

    ❤️ great review Harry. I bought a bunch of Arteza products for my grandkids. Especially my granddaughter. She’s always telling me she too, wants to be “famous”, like her Mamaw 😆

    There is a pencil brand on Amazon called Castle, that seems pretty huge. But I can't find a single review of them on youtube. They remind me a great deal of Arteza's products. I'd love it if you did a review of them, since you always do such a good job of showing us the quality of a pencil.

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  4 года назад +3

      You must be a mind reader, I have the 120 set of Castle pencils which I will be reviewing. When I got the set, I got a note from the company asking if I would meet up with them on the 7th of January in my local area as they have an office literally within walking distance from my house and one in the US.
      But as soon as I do the review I will let you know. I was incredibly surprised by just how good they are but that is only first impressions I have a lot more testing to do before I say anything on the pencils.

    I love the woodless pencils. It's something about how they feel in my hands. But you are right, they should be used more.
    I dont have any arteza products, but I have heard so much good about them. :D

    I had the Derwent woodless that I lost. They are now $200! You could break them ff for wide swaths of color, or use sandpaper for sprinkles.

    • @TheArtGearGuide
      @TheArtGearGuide  4 года назад +1

      Hi Pat, I seen that set you are referring to that is $200 however, although Derwent have stopped the Aquatone you can still purchase sets for $20 or £15. The only reason that set is $200 is because the tin ithey are in is one of the first tins that the Aquatone came in.

    Woodless pencils are incredible l love them so much but of coarse watercolor pencils because it is very good to do so many different techniques with water so l understand that in case of ordinary pencils its not very reasonable to make them woodless but for watercolor pencils being woodless actually is an advantage

    I bought a white plastic textured cutting board from the dollar store and it works exactly the same as the other palette just costs a lot less.

    I really liked these for fun pieces and playing. I fear they’ve been a bit of a gateway for me - I now want professional grade watercolour pencils! 😂 with the lightfast stuff, I think they’re okay for under painting. Not sure if the purpose of the white though as it doesn’t do much for me, could be swapped out for a different colour, in my opinion.

    Hi hun, been a LONG time, but thanks for this review. I made my second purchase of this pencil set tonight. Afterpay making things easier, lol I am so excited to get these back in my hands again. I think the texture of these as a paint straight from the tips and to sketch as well. I am less than thrilled with the Arteza wooden 72, they seem to gummy, and a bit of trouble getting them to layer well. I wish they were this formula. Anyway, looking forward to seeing your full take on them!

    I've wanted to get these to use in my coloring book, & watercolor journal. But I got the 72 set of watercolor pencils from Arteza instead. If I would have gotten them the first year Arteza was out. I could have got both. But they have raised their prices. Of course, they are having a pretty good sale right now. But with everything going on I'll be doing good to get my daughter's Christmas this year. She has taken an interest in Copic's. So as everyone knows how pricey that is. LOL So I most likely will be giving the Co. who makes Copic most of our Christmas budget. As I know you are the same in always putting our kids first.I know you're a great father. And I hope your daughter is doing better & better. I wish you & your family a Very Happy Holiday. TYFS

      Hi Pat, it is the Caran d'Ache Aquarelle Palette amzn.to/2qjVhfG a friend of mine here on RUclips told me about it a while ago and I purchased one for review and now I couldn't be without it. It completely transforms water soluble pencils or crayons.
      One side of the palette has a rough surface which you rub your watercolor pencil over and it grip the pigment, which you can of course mix pigment on. The opposite side of the Palette is smooth which is perfect for Water-Soluble Markers or pens and mixing those to give you new colors and tones.
      You can check out my reviews of the Palette here if you are interested. RUclips review - bit.ly/2IGV8ut and my Written Review bit.ly/2HmQli9. Hope this helps you out a bit Pat and thank you so much for stopping by the channel

    I have Arteza's wordless colored pencils and they're good, but I prefer traditional wood cased pencils.
