      I love the video and would really love to make Zero's doghouse, but I don't see dimensions and item list anywhere. I joined your patreon hoping to find it there, but no luck. I see the dimensions for the front and the cross in the picture, but not for the back walls and there is no list of items needed. If you could please include a list of items and dimensions I would be grateful. Thanks!

      I've seen most of your videos and they are so inspiring and freaking awesome. I have a box of various sizes in trolls that I collected with my sisters when we were Young. I would love to make some kind of Halloween ghouls out of them but I don't know where to start. Can you do a video on something like this using the little plastic trolls? You have awesome videos, thank you so much for sharing them.

    If you make this and live in an area where you see rain or snow, from experience, make sure you seal the foam prior to painting. We made this a few years ago and used a pint of driveway sealant before we painted it. This helped add a stone texture to the foam and made it waterproof. Zero's doghouse has survived 3 years of Ohio weather and is still going strong.

    • @kellybegley9291
      @kellybegley9291 5 лет назад +3

      Fellow Ohioan here ☺ I plan on making this as well and with our crazy weather do you have any other tips?

    • @KatPickles
      @KatPickles 4 года назад +2

      Jessica Tinker this was going to be my question exactly. When you put that much work into something you want it to last! It would not survive the sun and rain where I live in Texas I don't think. I really appreciate seeing this response, now I don't have to ask LOL! Thank you!

    • @jtinker13
      @jtinker13 4 года назад +14

      @@kellybegley9291 Sure thing:
      - I used 2" thick insulation foam board instead of the thinner foam in the video.
      - I used an industrial construction grade adhesive to connect the foam (you can buy different types at any hardware store in caulk aisle)
      - After it is assembled, coat the whole house in some kind of driveway or basement waterproofer (I used Drylok) I recommend putting one coat on, letting it dry, and applying a second just to make sure you seal everything. Be sure to really coat it and get in the nooks and crannies. The sealer has a texture to it, so it actually made our foam look like stone on it's own. It was awesome.
      - I used outdoor oil based paints in grey, silver, and black. Painted grey everywhere, then used black and silver sparingly with a dry brush to add depth.
      - I sealed off the whole thing with one coat of matte clear polyurethane spray paint.
      Our doghouse is also made of solid foam, so while we stacked and glued the house together, we embedded two 1/2" PVC pipes (about 18 inches long) into the body of the dog house. This way we can slide the doghouse onto Rebar we have put into the ground. It has yet to blow away or fall over in any of the storms we have had over the years.
      If you have IG, you can see a during and final picture on my account @jtinks13, just to give you ideas. Happy Halloween :)

    I made a dog house several years ago and my dog out grew it. Going to revamp it by running the boards through the planer and using a router for the scalloped edges. It already has a curved opening. So the rest is pretty simple cookie cutter style cut out of Zero W/bone and placing over plywood.
    Doing props is a fun little hobby but I’m all over the place… scarecrows, anything Star Wars, superheroes to minions and Harley Davidson skulls.
    It is rewarding to see other people enjoy it as much as I enjoy doing projects and seeing it completed.
    Feel like a kid and get giddy when I see things coming together. I think its just a creative burst of energy that is just part of my personality…I love videos with creative people:
    MP share the measuring steps for those that are interested in learning to do this; I see so many commenters asking for measurements and if you look at Monsters Tutorials responses are only to those that give compliments and then skips those commenters asking questions about measurements and for information on what you left out of the video.
    It isn’t teaching if you leave the steps out of the video. It’s more about selling/ making money. Realistically if if you didn’t leave the steps out and responded at least in your description box of supplies and measurements.
    My advice for those that want to learn to make this -cut cardboard to the size you want( look up kids cardboard playhouse patterns) that will be beginner friendly and you’ll have a place to start and use it for a template.
    Remember this is a seasonal decoration so you’ll have to have room to store it; also that foam board can get dinged up easily. Just a few things to keep in mind.
    I do woodworking, painting /wall murals and my husband does automotive painting and bodywork.
    So I am thinking of a way to convert the dog house to a doggie Zero toy chest so it is functional.

    Love the texture trick. One we use in our shop, especially for stone things and to weather proof a bit more. I mix Flex-crete to a slightly watery toothpaste consistency and brush on in layers. About 3 layers doesn’t add much weight and it’s literally covered in stone. Adjusting the amount of water and brush techniques can add or smooth texture. It also seals the foam, then you’re free to use spray paint.

    A little tip when trying to make foam look like stone or concrete, before assembly, wad up a ball of tin foil the size of your fist and rull it over all the smooth surfaces. It will create tiny indentations that will allow for more natural looking light and dark spaces when you do your dry brushing later.

    I used the same foamboard to make my G1 Transformers Wheeljack costume, but with a hot wire cutters and a box knife. Tons of silicone, toothpicks and cut down kebob skewers later, I had the build. Coated the entire thing in Kilz before painting to keep the spray paints from eating the foamboard.

I wonder what would happen if you sand the bubbles texture your created (spay water and not wipe it off) . Would it leave holes behind, to give it that old decaying stone look?
