5 Things that Make Perfect Sense in Demon Slayer

- Hello comrades! If you have seen any of my Demon Slayer videos, you'd know that I like ranting and making fun of this show, often pointing out plot holes inconsistencies and other mistakes. This time, however, I am here to present to you things that make PERFECT sense (at least in my head) about Demon Slayer. From the power system, to why the government is turning a blind eye on demons, slayers and their entire conflict!

What's the most believable concept in this show?
I’m my opinion it’s the emphasis on how the characters aren’t invincible . As you pointed out it took the squad months to heal in a dedicated facility and it shows that they aren’t superhuman and its a nice contrast from most animes.

Well the breathing style's effects are just visuals.
The effects are just for show.
If you were in the Demon Slayer Universe and someone with a breathing style uses their style
For example:
Flame Breathing 9th Form RENGOKU
You as in the viewer
Will see the user transform the breath user into a dragon made out of flame.
But in the Demon Slayer Cast's POV
You'll just see them dashing in mid air
Like hovering and dashing at the same time.
I think its how hinokami kagura works but idk nothing is really belivable in this anime/manga

Quick note : The breathing styles elements aren't visible, it's just sword movement. The movement is what makes these techniques, this was also stated by the author.

So there is no water coming out of the sword and super power like abilities ? It's just different sword movements with metaphoric names ? Does that mean that demons are the only ones that have "super powers" that are visible?

it actually also requires a sun breather to manifest the slayer mark first before other people around them can start to manifest, which is why none of the hashira gained slayer marks until after tanjiro cut off gyutaros head

@@mahistv NO it is a fatal condition but it is ignored by sun breathers which is always ignored by avg demon slayer fans, even gyomei knows that SOMEONE (yoriichi) lived even after 25 and a long time that is

Maybe the demon blood before Muzan's death he got altered this body enough so that it would also grow accultured to the overload.
The most amazing detail regarding tanjiro's hand, is that every episode you can still see how worked they are. In Mugen Train, and entertainment arc, the marks are still on his palms, its an important detail it did not just dissapear after first episodes of showing his training
Absolutely. In my very first video (which was taken down before anybody could see) I've made a lot of emphasis on that!
You can see that ufotable don't miss small details... Even in the first episode of Swordsmith when Muzan was angry thus releasing his pressure that cracks and destroy his labs equipment... Someone mentions the cracks look carefully details. I think the commentator meant about the glass pieces from large piece to small pieces even though it was just shown for a few seconds.

@@mahistv Tengen was a character that matured fast in front of the viewers out of all Hashiras: he acts respectful of Tanjiro after headbutting Sanemi, grows with remorse of what he almost put the two girls with as he admitted he did that mission on the sides of the rest of the organization (like you said, teamwork was not really the Slayers strength except for a few who were pals from the get go with Rengoku and others) and actually managed to beat an Upper Moon with only Tanjiro unlocking his Demon mark and had T been stronger there wouldn't be a need for it but that fight was awesome and besides the part about Inoske glorious.
You gotta hand it to Tengen though.....he Survived.......
I think one of the most underrated perfect aspects of Demon Slayer is Tanjiro not being so jaded or cynical about Demons.
Every other character in the show believes that Demons are purely monsters, they have no feelings and only care about eating those most precious to them. While this is a very true sentiment for a decent chunk of Demons, Tanjiro never wavers on his view & understanding of Demons as truly pitiful creatures.
He knows that Demons are almost always forced under the bidding of Muzan, namely due to Nezuko.
Due to this, he views Demons as less of predators but more-so as prey. They are Muzan's sacrificial pawns in his board-game of chess to one-up the Demon Slayer Corporation.
It's why he shows the bare minimum amount of respect towards those who've shown a genuine wish to have not become a Demon, or even regret to have taken any lives whatsoever.
I genuinely think that without Tanjiro being so understanding of the true nature of Demons then this show would feel a *lot* more mean-spirited. Imagine just having a kind protag slice down literal children who were forced into becoming Demons by Muzan with no remorse, not even a change of facial expression! Might as well be a horror anime at that point.
People complain about the fact he's "too kind" to Demons, but I think he shows the ample amount of respect towards individuals forced under the bidding of a coward by a literal spell. It also feels a lot better that he never forgives them for their actions. All he does is show respect to those once human and regretful of their actions, never does he try to forgive their massacres.

I think that's due to him being the only one with a perspective. Nobody had ever had a demon by their side, especially a relative, for so long.

I think Muzan's blood demon art makes perfect sense. He can turn people into demons because he can control his cells. He can kill his minions instantly because they are a essentially an extension of himself now. He reminds me heavily of the alien from the Carpenter Brothers 1982 movie "The Thing"
I can see some connection, but The Thing was one organism and didn't split much. did it?

There's a scene in the movie where the the thing, who's body is on fire, detaches it's own head to escape, which in turn becomes a separate organism.
And there are times in the movie where multiple things have existed at once, due to assimilation.
And if you wanna talk about the prequel, then there's a scene where a thing's hand detaches and just becomes a separate organism and attacks someone while the main body is still functional.
But I was more thinking about "Fleshy monster that can unnaturally manipulate it's anatomy" aspect of "The Thing"
Don't know if it makes sense, but the mark reducing you lifespan to freaking 25 bring a whole lot of gravitas and tension to the series. Basically, you know that even if the protagonist and good guys win the day and all the demons are slayed, they won't get to enjoy their victory for much longer. They literally put everything on the line, their life, their future, their body, everything.
As bad as it sounds, that's what they've signed up for. And they should be glad they actually lived through this conflict if anything... There is no happy end really, only victory or death

The elemental effects you see when they do breathing techniques aren't actually there or real. It just represents what type of breathing it is, aka, for aesthetics:)

It's actually quite common for Slayers to go on little squads during hard missions, as shown in in the spider demon arc, the reason why Hashiras don't do the same is because they're spread out around the whole thing. This is also connected with the fact that the average Upper Moon is worth 2 or more Hashira, which is one of the main reasons why they're losing. However as much as Ubuyashiki hates the deaths, there's a bigger goal on that, he knows what Muzan actually wants and is willing to make the Slayers more vulnerable by spreading out the Hashira to stop it.
Which in tern makes them easier targets for a pick off. It's a tough situation to be in

It makes sense that the Slayers would be spread out including the Hashira’s. Muzan can create a somewhat powerful demon in an instant while training one low rank Mizunoto slayer can take years of training. Plus like you said with UPM’s most demons are stronger than individual slayers hence why the lower ranked ones would team up from time to time. But the Hashira are strong and confident enough to take on lower moons with ease, Hashira mostly die from encounters with upper moons.
I swear Muzan could just pull up to a hashira meeting and destroy all of them. because he still kinda messed all the hashira up with the 4th drug

the ubuyashiki mansion where the hashiras hold their meetings is almost twice as hhidden as the swordsmith village. it took 3 hundred years for the demons to find the swordsmith village and it is less protected and has more people moving in and out than the ubuyashiki masnion.
If someone has a perfect control over their bodies they can do such fictional things. The things adrenaline can make your body do is ridiculous. I remember one time i was bullied and being cornered over this fence, and with nowhere else to go, i hopped to what mustve been half the fence and jumped over. This fence mustve been 7ft high or something and i was 13 at the time.
Adrenaline is one hell of a drug!

Yo I had the same thing regarding a soccer game. I recently started getting back into it, my body was slow and I was exhausted. I noticed that I wasn't able to move my legs as fast as I wanted to until this one winning goal where it mattered. I'd kick the ball, they managed to block it but the ball bounced back super fast. Then I felt the adrenaline go to my leg, pulled back and shot before anyone reacted, not even myself. Though it strained my leg muscles pretty badly. lol.
I wasn’t cornered or anything when something like that happened to me, they just pissed me off so much my mind got all weird and foggy and I just threw them on the ground and kicked the living hell outa then
Fun fact, the lower your heartbeat, the more efficient at pumping blood it is (also you’re more fit) so skilled slayers who are jacked having some 200bpm is bs

Breathing Techniques in a nutshell: "You are now breathing manually."
So wait, every time I stopped to think how I breath, then forgot how to breath unconsciously, I've been practicing THE Breathing?
@@mahistv Tanjiro did that while fighting Daki. He flexed his TCB and then literally forgot to breathe.
Actually, the author stated that the elements coming out from breathing are just visuals for the viewers. In their world, it doesnt show. Its just merely there to make different styles easy to discern.
If you are curious about the ranged attacks, those are just air slashes. Think of it as putting a skin on it.

So it basically works like One Piece's own "Armament Haki", the weird vulcanization/blackening when used, is merely to show that it is being used, the thing by itself is invisible.
I believe the elements of the breath styles are just to be visually awesome. No lightning, no flame, no water... everything is similar to Inosuke.
They are like different fighting styles, some are about fluid movements, others are direct and fast attacks.

This could have potential SPOILERS so read at your own risk:
Actually I read somewhere that the elements that the viewers see when the slayers are using their breathing techniques arent actually visible, only the slayers can feel it due to their training and only the viewer can see it. The breathing techniques are just different types of sword styles, which is why Mitsuri uses love breathing (which was derived from flame breathing): it's the flame breathing sword style with a twist that's fit for Mitsuri, and if she pleases, she can teach that style to others, and they can alternate it if they'd wish to fit their fighting techniques. Also, the weapons used need to be taken into consideration with the breathing techniques used. That's why Gyomei uses an axe and wrecking ball (?) Instead of your typical sword, and why slayers like Mitsuri, Iguro, Shinobu and Tengen have swords fit to their breathing techniques and body types as well

the author is wrong, demon slayer would suck so hard if the effects werent real. and rengoku blocked akazas air attacks in a way a sword without flames wouldnt allow so the author is wrong or there is a plothole

I dunno about the mark being a death sentence automatically. I always took that to be an inference from the fact that a Demon Slayer who earns the mark goes on more dangerous missions and therefore is way more likely to die very young.
I get all the body science behind it, but it just makes more sense to me that it’s more due to the nature of the job than some “curse” activated by the mark.
I want to say that it specifically said it affected lifespan, like trading your future life for power now. Need more research to say for sure
@@mahistv It does reduce your lifespan, which is probably because of the extreme conditions your body undergoes when the mark is activated (high temperature, high heartrate etc)
So my guess as to how demon slayer Mark works is that, its more or less what happens to demon but on a Scale of a human. Like we seen very strong demon have those weird tatoos/markings on their bodies(examples being daki some of the lower moons and many other demons) what if those are demon slayer Marks but rather permanent ones since demon body is ridiculusly stronger then human So its more their body trying to adapt to their strenght pushing limitation of what was once human. Since marking and tatoos show up on demons bodies Just like slayer marks Since demons still are from the biological Point of view human they Just regenerate can create other organs and are weak against sun.

I wonder If Tanjiro becoming a Demon and temporarily gaining immortality negated the life shortening effects of his mark and now he’ll live a normal life span.
That would have been cool and made some sense, but I don't think that happened. He was pretty messed up after he got back to normal
Fun fact UV lights were invented in 1935, so if the characters in Demon slayer play it safe for a couple of years they could massively up there fire power.
I wonder if that would work? Maybe it's infrared or a combination of others that's harmful. Maybe its some radiation that this ore can store and that's why it's the only one?

Even though there are some techniques that might contradict what im about to say, I always like to think the elements that come from the Breathing Forms are just a visual representation for flare. Like, you have the different forms, then they add the element to it to make it look visually appealing. Cuz throughout the series, no one really comments on the water, fire, lighting ect that appears, only the movements, sounds and what not. Like, Water Breathing is a style that involves being flexable and strong, being able to flow like water, Thunder Breathing involves fast moving strikes such as the First Form being based on a quick draw, Beast Breathing is very fast and animalistic.
I think you are right about them being strictly visual!

I just wanna say that I love your videos because you actually look deep into the question. Sure maybe everyone has asked those questions, but you are the first to share your opinion. I feel like when it comes to most RUclipsrs they just explain the plot and don’t really leave any creative thinking. (That’s just how I feel at least) but I feel as if they just tell us things that we already know while in your videos you go into more depth. Dose that make sense?? Sorry if I am rambling
Makes perfect sense because that's what I like to do! And I don't want to say bad things, but it annoys me when videos like "40 details in the show" just tell you the things you literally know if you paid attention only half the time while watching the show.

To be fair, its actually *kind of justifiable* when you recount the fact that Nezuko is the first ever time the Demon Slayer Corps. has had a one-up on Muzan. Muzan has always been ahead of them, so it makes sense to nobly sacrifice themselves for this greater cause that could help them bring Muzan out of hiding.
At-least it isn't as bad as some animes where character just throw themselves into a blade because "I believe in you.."

@@blackmailed1072 I understand that but there are still dumbass moments. Gyutaro was slapping tanjiros head and making fun of him. He could’ve finished the job in that moment but plot armor said no. If they never sent daki to entertainment district, Gyutaro would be immortal because they would cut his head and nothing would happen because daki isn’t there. And why didn’t muzan kill tanjiro when tanjiro came to him in season 1? And finally, akaza wasn’t trying against rengoku. He could’ve one hit clapped rengoku and then killed tanjiro before sunrise. That is four times they could’ve won the whole anime but didn’t because they were pissing around.
@@blackmailed1072 Deadass it was their first chance in four hundred years so they literally gave their life. And they won that bet purely because they gave up their lives. Gotta remember it took basically THE ENTIRE CAST to take down Muzan alone. Tamayo was spamming tf out of poison and everyone was going stupid with their breathing styles and shit. Crimson red nichirin and slayer mark. Tanjiro was spamming sun breathing moves for the entire fight, and Zenitsu was spamming the seventh form with zero regard for any consequences. They just went all out. They've fought this dude for a thousand years, and he is currently in the weakest state he's ever been in four centuries. It makes sense they'd give it their all. It took the sacrifices of everyone who died. Even those who lived came out with heavy injuries, Tanjiro and Giyuu each respectively losing an arm. Kanao almost lost their entire vision. It took everything for them to come out with crippling losses.

I think it's great, helps us understand the culture a bit
The elements that come from their breathing are because they imagine themselves using the element that their breathing represents. Thunder breathing is fast water breathing flows and can change in any circumstances

@@mahistv yup many people misunderstand them as "just for flashy animation and cool fights" but they have a completely different aspect to them which connects to refraction of light like the mirage and stuff
Another point on why I think the demon slayer corp isn't acknowledged by the Government is because of the massive amount of legitimate power it would give Ubuyashiki's entire family and only his family. Think about it, basically there's this one insanely rich blind dude that has 12 or more super soldiers as employees and they're all loyal to a fault to him and his family, now give that man actual legit government powers and suddenly the power balance in Japan looks very skewed, would the Ubuyashiki, the Hashiras or any other slayers do anything bad with this power? Probably not but would you take that chance if you were part of the Government?

I have know proper historical knowledge about Japan but one thing I thought and was very confident in was knowing the Taisho period was around 3 centuries ago and not 112 years ago. thank you for this information

First, just found your channel today and am loving the videos! Thank you for the interesting info about Japanese culture and anime!
I will say - some people survive long periods with heart rates that high, without a heart attack. It certainly isn't good for you, and it'd be next to impossible to even exercise intensely with a ~200 bpm heart rate, much less literally fight for your life. But, I have a condition called dysautonomia. The name comes from "autonomic dysfunction" - autonomic function being your unconscious functions like heart rate, blood pressure, body and skin temperature, digestion, etc. I've had this most of my life because for me it is due to a genetic disease, but it worsened drastically in my teens. It went undiagnosed for about 15 years. In that time I just had to learn to adapt and survive as best I could, but often felt like I was running a marathon just making it through the day, was exhausted at the end of the day, and at times would feel my heart beat so fast I was legitimately scared as a teenager that I was going to have a heart attack and die. Most dysautonomia is much worse standing than laying - it puts more stress on the body. I do have episodes and days where my pulse and blood pressure and body temperature are wildly out of control even resting, I had low grade fevers for years and last year once I couldn't stop tremoring and when they took my body temperature it bordered on where hypothermia begins. But the tachycardia and blood pressure variations is the hardest. When a specialist finally suspected I might have autonomic dysfunction and did a simple standing test, my resting pulse laying was 75bpm and my standing pulse within 30 seconds was 189bpm. It would get to 200bpm when walking and I started having arrythmias at one point just because it was too fast to beat regularly. I had pushed through for years and done competitive sports and track & field, until age 16 when I told my parents I felt like I was going to pass out every time at practice and couldn't get enough breath. At around age 19 I started having episodes where my blood pressure would skyrocket up to 180/140 from standing up, as well as the high pulse, which is more dangerous. I was told that fortunately it is very, very rare to have a heart attack from dysautonomia even if it feels like you're dying - and that's proven true as I've had the condition since childhood and not yet had cardiac issues (I am 25), but it can certainly feel like you're dying.
Honestly I have a lot of sympathy for how the show portrays Tanjiro when his body is under that extreme stress, especially how it eventually hits him like a ton of bricks if he keeps pushing through it. I think the most remarkable thing to me is how short of breath that fast heart rate makes you feel and how they show him continuing to fight through it because his and others lives are on the line. Even if you can actually take deep breaths fine, when your heart is beating 190bpm plus, especially in intense exercise when the need for oxygen circulating to the muscles and organs is even higher, the heart struggles to properly circulate oxygen to the brain and muscles the way it needs to, because it can't pump as hard and rhythmically as it should when going that fast. It makes your muscles ache intensely but worse, it feels like no matter how deep you breathe, you aren't getting enough oxygen. It's called air hunger and it feels very similar to when someone actually can't get enough air, such as when their throat is closing or they are asphyxiating, because in both cases the brain causes that feeling due to lack of oxygen, but the difference is no matter how deep a breathe you take with air hunger, the feeling doesn't go away. You have to slow the pulse down so the heart can beat properly and circulate well again. To me, that scene in the most recent anime arc when the effects of sun breathing hit Tanjiro all at once and then Tanjiro's family is begging for him to breathe and not die really hit close to home and hit me in the feels. I have no idea if the writers and animators have experienced what air hunger or that level of tachycardia is like, but they did a very accurate job, at least in my experience, of portraying what that feels like. It feels like you just pushed far beyond what you should be physically able to do while your body is screaming for you to stop. I could really see that with Tanjiro and in the moment he starts gasping for air and is debilitated.
And sometimes if you're used to functioning despite those warnings, it comes back to bite you. Like for me, in the past I used to ignore a lot of my bodies signals in order to continue doing the things I love - sometimes it will hit you all at once when it reaches a point you just can't ignore. Many people with dysautonomia pass out or nearly pass out when we stand up and our pulse goes too high. Before treatment I would often lose my vision and hearing standing up, but instead of sitting or laying down to wait for it to come back like a reasonable person, I just got used to walking through it and waiting for it to come back. I often refused to let my body take the time it needed because I was frustrated by my limitations and thought of my body antagonistically instead of thinking of my body as just doing it's best to adapt to a difficult situation and genetic disease. Even if of course Demon Slayer is fantasy and I will never (and would never want to) fight demons, it was really interesting to see a portrayal of what it looks and feels like when your autonomic function is struggling or failing and when you just continue to push through that anyway. I think their portrayal of air hunger, even if they don't call it that, is really good and fits well with the theme of breathing - people with dysautonomia are often taught certain types of breathing designed specifically to help lower pulse, among other tricks. Vagal breathing for instance, since the vagus nerve regulates a lot of autonomic function including heart rate. I know this was long but I hope it was interesting! Some people definitely do survive many decades with severe tachycardia like that without heart attacks, but it is disabling and very hard on the body and will genuinely feel like you are dying. I loved that they showed that.

If all the Hashira just all rushed an uppermoon together with perfect teamwork, they should be able to kill the uppermoons more efficiently than their current method, try to solo them and then failing and needing Tanjiro to either motivate them or help them.

@@mahistv yeah, they fr expected that there might be an upper rank at the mugen train, but instead sent only ONE hashira, even shinobu herself said that one uppermoon is equal to atleast 3 hashira, so they even acknowledged that they needed more than one hashira to kill an upper rank

Actually, technically, when you see a demon slayer use their breathing style see them with the elements coming from their sword, the elements aren’t actually there. It just appears that way because of the Wielder moving is a mirror image of how that element moves and works

this is a big breakthrough. this is the reason why the leader see the bigger potential in Tanjiro and his sister.

its actually really realistic except for the demons and magical breathing techniques, breathing does actually have an impact on your focus and concentration, thus improving your strength and coordination, also the endurance training is very much well done, because after it he did have injuries and was out of breath, even with him already being a hard working boy

It reacts to Tanjiro’s strength level, which is why I don’t know if his life would be cut short, because it reacts with Tanjiro. Also using Sun Breathing makes Tanjiro get a fever, like getting used using the mark. Also another reason why I’m unsure is that Sun breathing is considered to be a perfect breathing style, meaning that the Sun mark should considered to be a perfect mark. So would it even drain lifespan if it’s considered to be the perfect version of a mark? I'd like to hear your thoughts on it, would Tanjiro's life be shortened or not.

You know I was thinking that the demons should have some video game grunt factions.
1: Swarms- newly transformed deamons.
2: Gangs- like swarms but have regained their minds and attack mostly with thug weapons.
3: Muzon Guard - Uniformed deamons that are armed with weapons of fallen slayers.
4: Golems - Rangom objects that magically assemble to become a monster.
5: Munson's Monsters - Creatures Muzon collected or created.
I think they should have been organized better than just Upper and Lower Moons. There should be no-names, grunts, personal guards, research department... hell HR would have been nice. They'd go out, look for people to convert and save Muzan some time.
