he was given an order by warner brother to make 3 movies instead of two last minute, just two months before the actual shooting so that’s why everything is hectic, he had to stretch two movies into three. warner brothers screwed epic movies into disney chimes
11:43 "The musicians will see the music for the first time. They don't rehearse it or anything like that. They just turn up, the sheet music is in front of them, and they play."
I still don’t yet understand how the orchestra all sees the music for the first time at the same time they are recording and still manage to play it so beautifully!
The orchestra sounds so beautiful it gave me shivers! I'd love to do the work of any of these people. Even tea makers or something as everything looks so bloody awesome!
After watching this I get amazed that things like can this actually exist. The crazy amount of people, organization and coordination is insane! The huge investment required and the countless pieces needed to finish the puzzle of the movie is just unfathomable. We are so lucky to be able to watch such beautiful and complex artworks in theses times!
Here in quarantine, and revisiting some old stuff. As a huge LOTR fan, I was surprised to learn something new here. That Dame Edna was the Goblin King... I don't research like "fan"atics do, but this one I missed along the road somewhere.
Sometimes I wonder what JRR Tolkien would think seeing his works come to life. I think it is amazing that we are able to bring so many things from the imagination to life. Thank you to Peter and all the crew that work so hard to bring such quality to the story they are presenting.
Being able to experience a finished film of such quality is a blessing. I feel sad that people still complain about paying at the movies. We should appreciate the work that goes into making films.
I just want to say that I admire you sir. You have inspired my with your blog. I'm from Honduras and I want to start to direct my own movies. Thank you for the inspiration and I hope that someday I will be like you sir. Greetings! (sorry for my bad english)
it depends on the movie? if your movie is 80% CGI and it being good relies on visuality completely its hard to make.. if its a simple movie with a good story, its simple to make. for example, I like "Coherence" more than the Hobbit and its budget was 50.000USD and they filmed it in the directors house in 5 days ..
i love it to watch making of videos, cause only like this you completely understand how much work is behind a movie! all this people do so much and it's amazing!
I was hoping The Hobbit would take us back to Middle-earth in a similar way LOTR did, and it did. Well done Mr. Jackson (and the whole team and actors), it is a beautiful movie, in every way. I am also glad there is 3 movies instead of just one. P.S. The scene in the pantry when Bilbo is upset and trying to talk to the dwarves, and then says "I'm sorry", and Balin then says "Apology accepted" is hilarious.
Probably no-one cares, but a couple years ago I stayed in an Air BMB on vacation in NZ, and the person who lived in the house played the cello in the Hobbit. I thought it was pretty cool that I was staying in the house of someone who was part of one of my favorite movies!
That's not a movie, that's a freaking artwork and masterpiece is what this is, with a freaking hundreds of people working their asses off to make it work... so freaking fascinating and incredible, breathtaking.
+Jeroen Cardienaal You ever tried filming with beards? It's impossible! I hear that Neil Cicierega had to spend a million or so just for a 2 minute video about knock knock jokes because one of the actors decided to grow a beard.
I dont know if Peter Jackson or anyone working on The Hobbit will see this comment but whatever. I just wanted to say Thank you for making such a wonderful film. I suffer from OCD and at night is when it is at its worst when all my obsessions and fears run though my head. The Hobbit cured that. Everynight I put the movie on blu-ray on my HD big screen lay in bed and with the first 30 minutes of the film in the shire, the dinner party ect I fall asleep like a baby. With a huge smile on my face.
you can tell peter jackson feels he botched these films. he seems so disappointed in them. he knows they didn't live up to the lord of the rings trilogy.
These videos bring me soo much joy, to say the least. I absolutly love watching all of the mahem and fun everyone has post-preduction, and i look forward to joining this lifestyle.
Dear Peter Jackson, I just now came across with these AMAZING production videos, and I couldn't stop until I watch all of them. I should say, they are as interesteng as the movie itself ! Thanks a lot !!!
i love watching how a great film is made. This video shows how dedicated, determined, talented and hard working individuals work to make a great film everyone can enjoy.
Like, what is behind this movie is beyond spectacular. Just here I felt what is to make movie like that. Thank you, all the crew that made this possible.
Gives an appreciation of what production and post production goes through. Makes our jobs we have daily look much easier. Congrats for this awesome film! Looking forward to the next two films.
Cast and crew, production and direction staff, just wanted to say Thank You for all your hard work and time involved, this is truly a Superb film, very Beautifully done, well worth the wait!!
absolutely love these production diaries!!! thx so much for sharing!!!! there are many, not in the film industry, that do not realize the work involved to create a film, especially one of this calibre!!! :) soooo excited to go watch this film!!!! i have GREAT respect for you and your crew!!!
I hate when people hate some movie but don't understand how much work and time it takes. I saw a comment where someone said 'Why is the movie named 'The Hobbit' if there barely is Bilbo" and that it should be named something else. Well it's true that the script went a little off road but the movie was still enjoyable. And for me it still told us a beautiful story and that's all that matters. I really loved it. :)
It's amazing the ammount of man-hours and resources, the complexity and specialization of tech and workers, etc that are dedicated to such a work of darkness.
i wish all of the directors would do these production diaries. they are just amazing to watch
Absolutely they are fascinating ♥
the beard capture part was hilarious
😢
Honesly blew me away
no it wasn't haha
I need a time stamp
damn! 5 Years too late
"I just stare at code all day" hah my life
Amy Summers *blinks* OH NONONO! I lost where it was!
I'm so getting fired! :(
are you part of this production ?
بعري تدرون منهوله الي يهزز الشبابيك كن عنده قوه وهو ماعنده الا بعره
6 years later, are you still starin at code :/? x)
Yeah, I do that occasionally too. I wish we could see his right monitor better to figure out its content.
things are surprisingly last minute and disorganised, makes me feel better about cramming for exams
Who knew exams weren’t about actual knowledge but just crunch time on easy mode
he was given an order by warner brother to make 3 movies instead of two last minute, just two months before the actual shooting so that’s why everything is hectic, he had to stretch two movies into three. warner brothers screwed epic movies into disney chimes
Yes it was a rushed fuck fest
11:43 "The musicians will see the music for the first time. They don't rehearse it or anything like that. They just turn up, the sheet music is in front of them, and they play."
Thats how you make money, lots.
Every single TwoSet fan be like...cramming in practice 1 minute before the lesson or before the concert.
I am a musician and I cannot believe this BS
I highly doubt the musician sightread the music for the first time at the recording.
We do!
Oh, what I wouldn't give to have a job working behind the scenes on films like this.
too :D
one sole please
You idiot!
saaaaaame
I still don’t yet understand how the orchestra all sees the music for the first time at the same time they are recording and still manage to play it so beautifully!
Thats why they're paid professionals
Reading music is like reading a book once you're proficient.
The orchestra sounds so beautiful it gave me shivers! I'd love to do the work of any of these people. Even tea makers or something as everything looks so bloody awesome!

"Sure, we'll get them to you in a minute, hold the line please."

The Soundtrack is one of the best soundtracks i've ever heard
Sometimes I wonder what JRR Tolkien would think seeing his works come to life. I think it is amazing that we are able to bring so many things from the imagination to life. Thank you to Peter and all the crew that work so hard to bring such quality to the story they are presenting.
The only words that could actually define the life of an editor is..
"Sleep deprived"😂😭
Being able to experience a finished film of such quality is a blessing. I feel sad that people still complain about paying at the movies. We should appreciate the work that goes into making films.
"i just stare at code all day, slurp" hilarious!
-"what do you do eric?"
-"uurgh i just stare at code all day"
Have a look at our latest video diary.
I just want to say that I admire you sir. You have inspired my with your blog. I'm from Honduras and I want to start to direct my own movies. Thank you for the inspiration and I hope that someday I will be like you sir. Greetings! (sorry for my bad english)
Good!!
Super video of how filming The Hobbit
Cool video! But the film was SUPERB! Even better than the book, if that's even possible! EXCELLENT WORK! :D
Oh, this is so great...
Peter the boss bringing the tea? Can we get more bosses like you in the world please.
Asian kid: "I just stare at code all day"
sips coffee
Watching these production diaries feels like attending film school.
I was always wrong for thinking that movies were easy to Made

"The movie will be finished two days before the Premiere...hopefully"
"IT WAS AWESOME THE FULL LEAKED FILM CAN BE SEEN"
when the orchestra started playing...i got major chills holy crap
2:37 omg he does all the code for the special effects and rigging is he even human
No
"I just stare at code all day." That made me laugh so hard.
looking at these concept artists draw makes me want to cry. it looks like such hardship, but such /beautiful/ hardship.
I was hoping The Hobbit would take us back to Middle-earth in a similar way LOTR did, and it did. Well done Mr. Jackson (and the whole team and actors), it is a beautiful movie, in every way. I am also glad there is 3 movies instead of just one.

Peter you and your team are legends. Thank you for bringing us all these incredible movies.
I wish I were any of these people. Any.
Since I was a child, it has always been my dream to become a "Beard Motion Capture Specialist Assisstant"
Probably no-one cares, but a couple years ago I stayed in an Air BMB on vacation in NZ, and the person who lived in the house played the cello in the Hobbit. I thought it was pretty cool that I was staying in the house of someone who was part of one of my favorite movies!

What is the name of this masterpiece?
@@khalilGT That's the Over Hill OST, from an unexpected journey. I think you'll really like it! 😇
I find this type of behind the scenes footage fascinating, it makes me appreciate movies even more! Thanks for posting Peter!
What a masterpiece you've created Peter Jackson. Never get bored re-watching it for over and over.
I love how the existence of this production diary perfectly matches the fact that they're from new zealand. THE KIWI HUMOUR WILL LIVE ON
They were all great to watch!!!! Thanks for uploading diaries!!!!!!!
im getting tired just watching this series, i don't even want to imagine the amount of work that went into this
How amazing would it be to sit at Abby Road listening to a full orchestra playing the hobbit sound track. Or in the editing room! WOW!!!
That's not a movie, that's a freaking artwork and masterpiece is what this is, with a freaking hundreds of people working their asses off to make it work... so freaking fascinating and incredible, breathtaking.
Sometimes I find the story behind the story even more fascinating than the story in itself:) Beautiful video and great work!
"Department of Internal Beard-Hairs"
..amazing xD And ridiculous. But more amazing than ridiculous 😂
Post Production looks like the best summer camp ever
Those musicians must be Amazing to play a piece perfectly each First time!
4:23 is the beard part serious ?
Yea
+Jeroen Cardienaal You ever tried filming with beards? It's impossible! I hear that Neil Cicierega had to spend a million or so just for a 2 minute video about knock knock jokes because one of the actors decided to grow a beard.
Protagonist Jones I hope you’re not kidding about that. I’m not going to look it up because I want to believe.
@@axr6327 Beards, fur and hair are all incredibly difficult to recreate.
Can I just...move to New Zealand already.
they put so much effort to create a perfect sound and noise for each scene
This beard lab segment is the best thing to come out of this entire trilogy
10:09 Ok ... LOL. Definitely feels like The Shining.
those conceptual artists are fucking cool
What a huuuuuge amount of work all those people have to put in.... that's bloody amazing!
It’s so nice to recognise people from lotr appendices, and also nice to see all the new folks having fun too making these films
Thats alot of hard work
came here from fine leather jackets, I'm satisfied
Soundtrack is everythingggg!
The dedication of these people are incredible. I never realized how much work it took to make a movie. Can't wait to see The Hobbit! :D
11:43 Musicians will see music for the first time
Bullshit
2:38 "what are you doing Eric?' eh i just stare at code all day *stare* hahaha
WTF! The music made by the orchestra gives me chills esp the Lonely Mountain Song.
I dont know if Peter Jackson or anyone working on The Hobbit will see this comment but whatever. I just wanted to say Thank you for making such a wonderful film. WHY BILBO GETS THE SPOTLIGHT HE DOES NOTHING!
YOU COULD RENAME THE MOVIE ''DWALIN SON OF FUDIN'' and other dwarves
Bilbo actually does stuff instead of Frodo who sucks and needs sam for everything
These videos bring me soo much joy, to say the least. I absolutly love watching all of the mahem and fun everyone has post-preduction, and i look forward to joining this lifestyle.

I'm black and I agree. It's like reverse-racism when people have an outcry from something like this. It's very much Anglo.
What are you on about?
i love watching how a great film is made. This video shows how dedicated, determined, talented and hard working individuals work to make a great film everyone can enjoy.
You know the old saying..."You don't have to be crazy to work here..."!---I could have spent all day watching the orchestra...sigh!
Like, what is behind this movie is beyond spectacular. Just here I felt what is to make movie like that. Thank you, all the crew that made this possible.
My dream !!! Receiving a call, and someone saying, Peter wants you !!!! Ohhhh Lord!!! 💜🙏
Gives an appreciation of what production and post production goes through. Makes our jobs we have daily look much easier. Congrats for this awesome film! Looking forward to the next two films.
I love this movie so much that I couldn't stop my self from watching it all day.
My god, the music part had me crying. I really appreciate the soundtrack 🙏🏼
I love these movies You're amazing Peter Jackson
Hi Mr. Peter Jackson. U got an amazing team. It's a lifetime achievement. Superb. Fabulous work in all the films.
You guys do all the work and we enjoy the fruit of your labor. Can't beat that! Mr. Jackson, thanks for the video blogs. Are we there yet?
My best sir... that is the quintessential of a prequel... It tells the story before the story... and that's exactly what this is.
Cast and crew, production and direction staff, just wanted to say Thank You for all your hard work and time involved, this is truly a Superb film, very Beautifully done, well worth the wait!!
This process is absolutely MIND BOGGLING!!!

THEY ARE SO AWESOME !!!
Thank you so much it was a great movie!
how they put all these movies together with such great effects and make it look so real is just genius, still beyond me how its possible.
We need more of your excellent work!

Gotta respect "the Code guy"! Not easy to just look at code all day while the rest are slaying Orcs...
I just love this !!!!!!
the orchestra part where theu began was so satisfying! idek why but i loved it
SO BEAUTIFUL
OMG i got chills the second the orchestra played
Radagast, what a legend. Mastery of atmosphere in movies.
Thank you for uploading!
This whole thing is sooo huge, good to see Lee & Howel still working, Jackson should kiss that guy from Weta works.
Another awesome reason to follow Jackson's works
This made me want to watch it all again!
It's amazing the ammount of man-hours and resources, the complexity and specialization of tech and workers, etc that are dedicated to such a work of darkness.
Amazing work. I hope to see more production from you 2020
these blogs are just the growth of peters grey hair. i love that man.
"Drag it, stretch it, bend it"
Foley artists are the shit!
This episode was particularly great! Really enjoyed it.
Simply amazing.
