    My late husband and I used to watch these appendices before sleeping/napping together for hours, many-many times.
    Since I lost him, I haven't watch these for 3 years now. (Don't worry I'm OK! :) )
    Last night I found this playlist and I had the most wonderful sleep at night!
    So, thank you very much for the best quality sleeping experience in years :)

      Sounds like you and your husband had great taste in films. Especially these appendices. Only select people enjoy the behind the scenes. May he rest in paradise. I hope he enjoyed his earthly life. I know he's enjoying his time with god right now till the end of time.

    I don’t care what anyone says…..I love The Hobbit movies. They have such a happy-go-lucky, different tone compared to LOTR. I love it.

      Everyone hates on them, but I rewatch them as much as I watch lotr. I watch all 6 extended versions in timeline order all the time, once a month or so lol. I watch them to fall asleep to them too lol. Those, and the Star wars movies, and the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and Harry Potter. I love them all.

      Nor should you care. I loved the Hobbit as well and enjoyed it very much. I think some people feel the need to criticize things, I'd rather go with them and extract the joy out of some of them.

    My general impression of graham mctavish is that despite the fact hes this distinguished looking serious elderly hard gentleman, he is also a big nerd whos got more passion for a great story and the little personal details he injects in all of his role in everything he does than more than most people out there. The grasper and keeper part and the insult and injury knuckleduster is just a chef's kiss in my eyes. Gotta love actors like him.

    The final look of the Dwarves were not always to everyone’s liking. For me, Thorin, Fili and Kili NEEDED to have longer, more prominent beards. The brothers should have both been blonde, and the early grey bearded looks for Thorin were magnificent.

    • @ewjiml
      @ewjiml 8 месяцев назад +24

      They didn’t do that because all the dwarves would start to mold together. They wanted distinct looks for each dwarf and I think they nailed it.

    • @markcruz359
      @markcruz359 5 месяцев назад +6

      @oscarstainton they're aim was to give each dwarf a distinct silhoutte and to be easily told apart from one another. Sure they could have given us 13 Gimlis but that would have been difficult to keep track of with body doubles, stunt doubles, cgi doubles etc. Etc.

      Filing and Kili are younger dwarves. Maybe it takes a long time for their beards to grow??

    As someone who has hiked, camped, hunted, and enjoyed TWO Tours in the Marine Corps, fully kitted-out and humping @sixty-plus pounds of gear all over God's creation?... HOW these Actors managed to don all that gear/costume/weaponry, and those BOOTS, and *THEN RAN/MOVED QUICKLY?!* Truly one of the most incredible things I've ever witnessed! (And they did it so well, too!) :-)

    56:31 That is brilliant what he said; as nowdays its the exact opposite with actors trying to insert their modern views and themselves to an overbearing degree in film.

    I absolutely love this. You can really see how much work they put into these movies. I really hope Peter Jackson gets the opportunity to return to middle earth again. I really hope he does. It certainly will be better than Rings of Power...I'm excited for the Rohirim movie aswell, consiering it also takes place in Jackson's interpretation of the universe.

    It's so sad that we can't dress like this in our daily lives. I'm a 5'3 man who's fairly stout and muscular. I'm south asian; but I could pull off a dwarf look. I just don't want to make myself into a spectacle at my office.
    We should all dress like we're in movies. All the time. Screw sweatpants and tshirts and hoodies.

    I used to see actors who would talk about how grueling makeup can be - I think I understand it better now having seen this. Imagine sitting there for 2 or 3 hours before you can even start working. And the folks that have to install the appliances have to be so detailed and exacting. I mean, I know they're just sitting there...for hours, but after 2 weeks it might get old.

    I think its such a shame that they eventually decided to scrap the battle armors that the dwarves were supposed to have for the big battle in the final movie and instead went for the traveller outfit, imagine if Aragorn had still worn his ranger clothing at the black gate, it just wouldnt have been the same.
    Its especially unfortunate since they put so much effort in making all of these characters distinct from eachother.

    You know this really makes me think about what went *wrong* with the hobbit... This video shows to me that the fault wasn't in the crazy designs, art work, character choices.... Because it looks like Jackson and the design team's thinking could have led to somewhere very fun, charming and amusing... What's wrong then? Is it the script? Dramaturgy? What is it? Pacing? It just all felt a bit forced

    I often explain Elves and Dwarves much like STAR TREK races for people that know nothing about THE HOBBIT or LORD OF THE RINS: Elves are basically Vulcans and Dwarves are like short Klingons.
