This was exceptional! I absolutely LOVE the Coen brothers. Thank you very much for this- truly, this helped me conceptualize a more encompassing and concrete collection of their work, as well as evoked stimulating ideas. Thanks!
The Coens have risen to the second or third spot in my list of favorite directors. They have this great style to their films thats hard to really put into words, but you did just that. Awesome work, man.
I am a huge fan of Wes Anderson, I kind of sentimental towards his films (despite his critics) and Paul Thomas Anderson, whom i think is the single greatest American filmmaker working today (which I know his cliche lol) But it doesnt mean I think the Coens are lesser. They're masters themselves.
CrystalJupiter ive seen grand budapest, moonrise kingdom and fantastic mr. fox. I liked all three. I haven't seen any of Paul's work yet but I will soon see there will be blood and punch-drunk love.
I never knew who were the directors of these films. These films are very good, i could watch them again and again. My husband loves no Country For Old Men. But if anyone can tell me, what was the Coen Brothers signature style of the way they produced their films or signature technique they directed their film as an auteur
Hey Nikki, I'd love to share with you our latest project. I used everything I could learn from the Coen’s to write and direct a feature length, award-winning time travel romance film that is now getting great reviews on Amazon Prime! Would you be willing to check it out? bit.ly/MakingTimeMovie Every time our little film gets a new rating and review, we rise in Amazon's rankings and are exposed to a wider audience!
Thank you Bluestarwarrior1! Wow! Great analysis of their work. Awesome mention of Save the Cat by the way. So do you have a favorite Coen film (I know it's pretty hard to answer)? Personally I'm stuck between Fargo and Raising Arizona but I love all their films. They're great!
+LethrBlak No problem.. I actually had True Grit in my editing timeline but didn't have enough material in my essay to speak on it, unfortunately. By the way, just seeing Clooney fumble some lines in Hail! Caesar got me excited! Once again a period piece, as well as a regional piece, and likely a lot of fast talkin', noir elements, and many layers of depth.

we are watching a movie on our fire stick called sam was here (2016 0r 2017) and my husband chris says this movie is like the style of of the coen brothers...what do you think?
Nice job, very interesting. How many of their films include the word "schmo"? It is a pretty atypical word to use and they have used it repeatedly. This word was used for sure in Hudsucker, Hail Caesar, and I think Raising Arizona and Barton Fink, not sure about the last two. But I have definitely noticed their use of the word "schmo", along with kidnapping plots and ransom notes as common devices.

Aww ye I like your level of detail. And I'm glad you talked about Roger Deakins, nobody (including me) pays enough attention to DPs in film criticism.

Loved this, thank you so much! I am doing an analysis of their career for a final in one of my film classes and this helped me get the ball rolling.
Nice work. You reminded me of films I need to see again and why I loved them so much the first time... except now I understand why I loved them.
I have been a Cohn brothers fan since Blood Simple. So I quite appreciate this. Thanks.

Yeah, I agree! The "Save the Cat" mention was brilliant.
should've mentioned the schrodenger's paradox "dead cat" from a serious man?
I think another characteristic of the Coen’s films is that they are all films with the exception of “Buster” (a video).
really enjoyed your video, I was wondering why True Grit wasn't featured at all?
Honestly I didnt even realize it. Good eye!
+grantpichla Didn't mean to be pedantic. I think your analysis did justice to their works. And we are all looking forward to Hail! Caesar.

+Andrea M I'm glad to hear it! Every film reveals more upon multiple viewings :)

Interesting, I haven't seen it but the trailer feels like a psychological shock horror film.
Nice job, very interesting. How many of their films include the word "schmo"? It is a pretty atypical word to use and they have used it repeatedly. amazing job man, i dont understand the pyscho-for-hire, what do u mean about that and those shots from the movie?
Psycho-for-hire as in "murder-for-hire"; and the elements of greed and violence, retribution; etc
