Hi everyone. I got a little waylaid making the video I was supposed to after the last, so this came as a good palette cleanser. The video is a collaboration with Luís Azevedo (Beyond The Frame), and tonally we went in a different direction than normal - therefore we decided to get an actor to do the vocals. You may recognize Stephen Chance from my short 'Life Outside The Frame' - bit.ly/2nhOEXK. We plan this to be the first of a series that explores comedy techniques in film (we may do TV too). I also still have VIP passes available from MUBI for new Patreon supporters.
I'm looking for a doco on the Coen bros which I saw years ago and explained their youth growing up in Minnesota and the influences they were exposed to in those days. Do you have any idea of that show ?
You all probably dont give a shit but does any of you know of a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I stupidly lost the login password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Alberto Camilo thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I wish I could agree with you, I eagerly awaited that one as I thought iI would love it.I couldn't care less about any aspect of that film and found nothing funny or entertaining within it. It was filmed beautifully but intentionally was drab and cold which didn't help me. I'm glad to see others enjoyed it but I truly despised that entire experience.
This is actually a really interesting series. It's teaching me things about the structure of humor that I never really had formalized in my head before.
I love how much depth these movies have. You've shown me man new things in a movie I've seen numerous times. Also the script writing, delivery, and editing are very well done!
The way you’ve been able to recreate the flow of a Coen Brothers dialogue exchange in a video essay is pretty insane. 9:29 also.. is that Prezbo from The Wire?
What's So Great About That? Thanks Grace. I'm glad all the pieces came together for people. There was always the worry it would be a bit left field from what I usually do, but the general reaction seems to be positive thus far.
Comedy is the fastest target to hit , and the quickest to age only few have mastered the ageless formula of this recipe -original quote from Lindsay Ellis elaborated -altered- by me lol
This is so Coen Brothers, I'm not at all convinced that you aren't one of their fictional collaborators, like Roderick Jaynes. Are you sure you're real?
I was hoping to see another video from this channel. It was a long wait, but I think it was worth it. Great video. Hopefully we will see another soon, good luck.
-Where does he work? -I can't say. -Where does he work? -Sir, I ain't at liberty to give out no information about our residents. -Where does he work? -Did you not hear me? We can't give out no information.
You should have started with "Okay, then" from Raising Arizona, it's said at least 6 times by 6 different characters in the opening 11 min, and then several more times throughout the movie. The Coens are masters of repetition, well, they're masters of everything really, so...
To the initial question, I would have said Sam Raimi because as second unit director I'm pretty sure he directed the great hula hoop sequence of The Hudsucker Proxy, filling in the gap of the circle. You know, for kicks. The rest is pretty spot on the spot.
A real joker/holder on/leach. I highly doubt he's done anything creative on his own and just rides the coattails of others. But honestly-great job on this one (and that goes to both of you!)
The Coen Brothers use style to serve their narrative. This video on the other hand seemed like a clumsy attempt at style which drove at relatively little. A kaleidoscopic collection of quick cuts which drove in no particular direction. I imagine this is how watching a Coen brothers film feels if you aren’t paying attention; bewildered, disappointed, bored and annoyed.

The Discarded Image what is the list of these movies featured? Why aren’t they already listed in the description?

@Alberto Camilo It did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I'm so happy:D
Thank you so much you saved my account!
well yeah that's just like your opinion man
Yours is also an opinion
It's a quote from The Big Lebowski, genius 🙄🤦🏽♂️@@LiverBross

A Serious Man is seriously underrated
Me sir my sir.
One of my favorite of Coens, funny as hell i cried of laughter.

i find it impenetrable. and i think the Coens made it so on purpose.
This is actually a really interesting series. It's teaching me things about the structure of humor that I never really had formalized in my head before.
"Wreaking havoc on comprehension" made me laugh harder than any joke told in this video.
it feels like i both learned things and lost braincells
beautiful video
That Kerschner effect build-up took 7 seasons for GoT
Winter is coming...
winter went
What are you, nuts? Have you forgotten winter?
I love how much depth these movies have. You've shown me man new things in a movie I've seen numerous times. Also the script writing, delivery, and editing are very well done!
These video essays actually keep me watching unlike the others
The way you’ve been able to recreate the flow of a Coen Brothers dialogue exchange in a video essay is pretty insane.
9:29 also.. is that Prezbo from The Wire?
His name's Buzz. He's got the fuzz, and he makes the elevator do what she duzz.
@@TomEyeTheSFMguy He provided my favorite line from the movie: "You know, for drinks?"
This is a fantastic video! Everything from the script and the narration, to the editing. Great work!
I hope you do make more in this series. :D

The Discarded Image I agree, great job bud, keep it up!
This video is a beautiful piece of art. I keep on rewatching!
This deserves at least 1000x more views, this was fucking great.
this video is a work of art, congratulations
Comedy is the fastest target to hit , and the quickest to age
only few have mastered the ageless formula of this recipe
-original quote from Lindsay Ellis elaborated -altered- by me lol
Rumiko Takahashi ain't one of these masters, despite vicious insistence from her fanboys/girls that she is.
i would say "the ageless formulaof this target" but sure.
I love the Hudsukerproxy. Severely underrated film.
This is so Coen Brothers, I'm not at all convinced that you aren't one of their fictional collaborators, like Roderick Jaynes. Are you sure you're real?
Roderick Jaynes is a cantankerous old man ;)
Coen brothers are awesome! They create weird characters in a weirder universe and intersperse action and comedy into the narrative!
I am beyond amazed to find out that the narrator of StudioBinder is in here
It sounds like him, but until we get the name of studiobinder's narrator, it's ambiguous, like the ending of a Coen Brothers film.
I was hoping to see another video from this channel.
It was a long wait, but I think it was worth it.
Great video. Hopefully we will see another soon, good luck.
Thank you! I always wondered what word Mr. Lebowski was using in his first conversation with the Dude. Micturate. I can't wait to use it, myself.
Epic line. “Every time a rug is micturated upon in this fair city, I’m to compensate the owner?”
-Where does he work?
-I can't say.
-Where does he work?

I think the way you said nomenclature just changed how I see the world a little bit. Thanks!
Nice moves, keep it up!
This was fantastic in every way! How the hell did it take so long to get into my recommendations?! Excellent- liked and subbed ☺️👍🏻
The Fargo series applies a lot of these same tactics. Great video!
I did not witness my buddies dying face down in the muck for..! Fuck it I'm finishing my coffee.
This is so well made.

This is a marvelous piece of video. Thank you.
What an absolutely delightful video.
What was the song at 10:46 ?
Pomp and ceremony
The people saying this video is messy don't understand that what is said is practiced immediately or ahead of time, so genius

This video essay is ahead of its time, truly awesome stuff guys. Get rid of that Assveedviseo guy though tbh... - Thomas
that asian dude in "a serious man" was so gangsta
Fuck me, that was like Comedy 101. Perfect
This is such a smartly made video, man!
Wow! Great work in every aspect.
Is the narrator in this video the narrator in some videos by studiobinder?
The rabbi is busy had me dying. Holy shit

Really cool video, my dudes!
7:10 No, Homonym was an alien on Star Trek: The Next Generation played by Carel Struycken.

You are a filmmaker yourself.
The editing is so genius, that i tried to stick money through my smartphone and give it to you.
It didn't work sadly.

I think it was said at the end. Steven (or Stephen) Chance.

No. That was Tom Baker. Who was also one of the most popular incarnations of Dr Who.

Richard Hannay What's Up Doc.
To be honest, didn't understand a single thing from the video, have to say Coen brothers has a really weird kind of sense of humour!
A lot of words were spoken, nothing of meaning was said.
Well, there goes 10 minutes I'll never get back.
Fantastic (and from a writer's perspective), inspiring and motivating video. Cheers!
