Most of the American youtubers are excited and saying that the land cruiser is back & they all are saying its smaller, better & way cheaper. They all are comparing it with the previous gen full size Land Cruiser in terms of size and price, etc. They need to understand it's a newer version of Land Cruiser Prado which is always smaller, cheaper and better version in terms of off-roading, but it's always different from the full size land cruiser. In US market Land Cruiser Prado is non-existent and Lexus GX was sold as its substitute.
Nobody really bought the Land Cruiser 200 in the US anyway. It was seen as an obsolete overpriced piece of machine. The recent Land Cruiser Prados were never existent in their market so buying a “land cruiser” nameplate meant having to go with the hugeass one. Toyota Marketing did a really GOOD job slapping the Land Cruiser badge onto it and replacing the big one with the “prado” version. It’s really just POV.
Toyota marketing is fantastic, making Americans believe it's a newer version of Land Cruiser 200 while it's not. Please keep in mind that the people who live in Asia, Australia etc. exactly know what clever strategy Toyota is playing in the US. F.Y.I. Toyota never replaced the big one with Prado they just didn't introduce the Land Cruiser 300 in the US yet, but only debut the Prado version for 2024. Prado is a different lineup and has been there for the past three decades.
Probably a 3rd row provision, the addition of a 2.8L diesel (221hp/550Nm) and they wont offer the barebones enthusiast interior that they get in the US.
So these reviewers don't even know that this is a Prado and not a successor to LC 200. LC 300 is the actual Land Cruiser available globally except North America.
@@Eldaino999 Not when taken in context. If someone said I could buy a house for $150,000, I would say that is very affordable. Yet, it is still $150,000...
This is definetely a good looking cars in a lot of ways. Just like they've gathered all current market customers expirience and putted it into design: not much of chrome, not much of a gloss plastic. Just satisfying looking vehicle. This design will hold it mark for decades. I liked Geely Okavango 2021 for this, but look what they did with 2023 Okavango 🤣
Dear Americans, This is the Landcruiser Prado, based off of the Tacoma and Hilux pickups, we get the big J300 with the twin turbo v6 out here in the jungle, don't be fooled.... still a capable offroader though. Enjoy. JM, Hilux owner 😊
If the Land Cruiser got shrunk, is the 4runner (already a mid-size) gonna be a crossover now? I mean, as long as its not CH-R levels of tiny Im fine with it but like... hmm.
I was expecting the Tundra drive train, but the hybrid Tacoma drivetrain will have plenty of power, more than the old 4.6L V8 or 4.7L V8. I don't remember the numbers off the top of my head though. The new pricing will help a lot compared to the old model. The old model you had to be a rich person that wanted to go off road and didn't want a G-Wagon or Land Rover or Lexus. I'm not a fan of the new styling, but it may grow on me. I do like the flared fenders. They make it look sportier while allowing the rest of the body to be narrower which reduces weight and reduces frontal cross section, both of which will improve fuel mileage.
"Simpler and less costly". Not from a drive train standpoint. They went from a NA V8 to a turbo/hybrid engine, it's way more complex and going to certainly cost more to maintain over time. You can't deny the awesome torque you get from electric motors; I hope the drive train proves to be reliable in the long-run (when its 15+ years old). For the purist comment, I have a cloth seat bare-bones 100 series so I guess that's (sorta) me, they would've sold way more 200s without all the bells and whistles with a lower price point. The low LC sales are Toyota's fault but I'm sure they didn't want to cannibalize Sequoia sales.
Toyota gave us the base because they knew people will instantly start modding it when they buy it. They gave us the reliable Toyota platform, but left things open for customization.
It definitely is good car. Even a good looking car (and I would even prefer the square headlights - better fit to overall design IMHO). I'm a bit torn but I think I will still get an GRJ76 instead - besides the modern gimmicks which can and will break - just a better car, although more expensive and a headache to import to where I live.
Is it still built with the 25 year life span or whatever like the old ones? If so that’s a good sign for the turbo hybrid setup especially since that’s in other models too.
We'll find out in 25 years... or probably much, much sooner would be my guess. There's no way a turbo hybrid system with a million sensors and computers is going to be as reliable as a n/a Toyota motor of years past. :(
