- In this video I’m showing how an improperly adjusted clutch effects your transmission while trying to go into gear. We have people complain of this problem all the time and immediately think that they need a transmission and without addressing the issue with the clutch you absolutely can end up causing a lot of unnecessary wear to the transmission. Hopefully you guys and girls can see and understand what’s going on in this video and why it’s important to keep your clutch properly adjusted. 10,000 subs and counting thank y’all very much for everything. @etrtruckcenterenginedrivet8918
Hope y’all enjoy the vid thanks again
I always thought that a clutch brake that didn’t work well was a clutch brake that had just worn out it’s friction material. Good to know that a clutch adjustment can fix this.
Great explanation. One trick to avoid it is to count to 5 after pressing the clutch pedal, then engage the gear.
Yessir give it a sec to stop the transmission from turning thanks for the comment HEA! 👍
I'll try that. Thx
Thanks for break it down. My Spicer 10 speed does this in first gear. Hopefully i can replace it with a Eaton 10 or 13 speed. Thanks again 👍🏿
The best explanation I've ever seen! Thanks very much!!
No problem José thanks for watching
I know someone who has a freightliner and if you are moving and try to switch into low gear on the selector it will grind. You basically have to come to a stop to get into the low gears. I believe it's a Eaton 10 speed
Sounds like the friction material is gone on the synchronizer in the back box. Pull and inspect the top plate as well
@@etrtruckcenterenginedrivet8918 i will let them know
Mine makes that sound only when I’m in low gears if I let off the fuel the rpms go to idle and make that grinding noise, also it does that in reverse pain in the ass to backup I thought I needed a whole new transmission, thanks for the info.
Me to so was it just the gear. Or ?
Thanks for your meticulous explaination
Great video!
Thank you Greenbud😀
Fantastic explanation!
Glad you liked it
Should your input shaft have any up and down play at all!!
How do u know exactly when u need to adjust clutch?
I’m having the same problem but I installed a new clutch and still does the same thing
Did you go thru and show the difference between the clutch adjustment and the clutch brake adjustment. . . . for the regular manual clutch linkage..not the hydraulic?
We have a short video on what it should look like. I don’t think we do much explaining in that video tho😳
I have a freightliner cascadia 2016 and just put in a new (self adjusting clutch) basically what was installed when trk was new. I have had so many issues with this clutch. I have maybe 2500 miles on this new clutch and indicator shows 50% now. I had no issues with my transmission until putting this scrap metal in. So basically can this be fixed or just remove and install something else. Pretty sure freightliner not going to warranty this OEM part.
Would a non-stock shift stick affect the "ease of getting into gear"? I have an ever so slight grind you described with the slider clutch?. I swapped in an 18spd that's F-designated (RTLO*F*16918B) ... and had to use a junkyard sourced shifter that j-hooked to the shift tower. I always wonder if that may be a reason for the imprecise shift feel.
Also, im having to adjust my clutch every 10K miles, and lube the throwout bearing every 3K miles (else i detect a rattle) ... Is this normal?
🤗
Thank you again Trúc
I have a 13 speed Eaton and when I put it on nine gear it sometimes kicks out. I guess I need to rebuilt it?? How much will it run me to rebuilt my transmission?
Give us a call on monday
@@etrtruckcenterenginedrivet8918 ok.
Mine will go into 1st gear but grind real bad going into every other gear. Do you think the clutch brake is not stopping the transmission? It's pushing the throwout bearing into the pressure plate.
Don’t use the clutch brake when moving.
what if my shifter is vibrating as well, at idle, neutral, clutch out it vibrates, clutch in hard to get into first and reverse, goes into 2nd and 3rd but with grinding that slows to a stop and allows shifter to get into the gate after a second or two of light pressure at the gate. eaton rtx 10 speed.
Hi good afternoon I own a fld120 for 13 years now have a 18 speed eaton clutch and doing something to me never do before after the truck been parked for couple days ( raining here a lot of humidity ) truck start ok but grinding when trying to put on gear looks like clutch getting stick to the flywheel pressing the pedal clutch
So in order to release the clutch from flywheel my mechanic told me to put the brake put the truck on the lowest gear ( truck off ) press the pedal clutch and start the truck and that works the clutch starts working correctly
My question it’s that normal ? Something getting bad on the clutch ? Any suggestions ? I would appreciate it
Thanks
So is that the same noise when u go from low to high with the splitter and it make a noise go to 5th in a 8 speed double LL
Same deal happening to me. What was your solution
No that’s your synchromesh, it needs to be replaced although you probably have done that by now
Mine probably got no teeth
