I bougjt a 1990 RR Classic in 2016. I knew she was rough, and she barely did 50mph on the way home. I literally had to stop and get an air filter on the way home. I changed the plugs, wires, distributor, oil, trans flush, diff flush, transfer case flush, all the u-joints, brakes and rotors. 85mph on the fwy. (1990 was pre sway bar, so squirrley above 85). She ran great after the repairs. I also discovered that you have to be "tuned in" , and understand certain things about Land Rovers. If you understand, and you can do maintenance yourself, you can avoid costly repairs. I own an Evoque as my daily. Just did the radiator hose for $65. Brembo rotors and pads cost less than $400. Currently looking for a RR Sport as a tow vehicle.
Bought a 2014 five years ago had no problem, before that had an eight year old Porsche Cayenne no problem. Fact is as soon as you buy 2nd hand car you maybe inheriting someone else's problem or might be that's a just car that was traded in for a newer one, with no problems.
I’ve owned 4 Land Rovers….Defender, Range Rover P38, Range Rover Sport L322 & currently a Sport Autobiography SDV6 3 litre diesel. I do most of my own car maintenance & repairs. For the general maintenance Range Rover’s are marginally more expensive than other cars. But not as claimed on this video. I’ve run them to 100,000 miles with no huge issues, other than the expected items. If you’re someone who’s gonna put your car into the main dealer for everything then what the video says is broadly true. But if you’re a competent home mechanic as I am, you can do most jobs yourself & save your money for the specialist jobs. I spend around £250 a year on routine maintenance- I’m a stickler for regular annual oil changes etc. That’s about twice what I pay for my wife’s VW Golf, but nothing exceptional. If you want to own one don’t be put off entirely by this video…it’s all worst case stuff. Get to know your car, do some home mail & you’ll likely be ok. They’re great cars to drive & own if you do your homework. And avoid using main dealers if possible (true for any make of car). Enjoy
Videos like this help me to find great deals on used luxury cars. I’m not even a mechanic and I’ve had great experiences with Land Rover, Audi, and Mercedes with over 100k miles.
I agree with you , especially the last part. Maintenance is key. Really with any car. Understand this before you buy this or any car. Range Rover owner
I'm on my second Range Rover. Never had a single problem. I don't go to Land Rover for a service. I go to a specialist. It's cheaper, better and still updates the online JLR service record.
It’s hot in the passenger side because it’s low on refrigerant. The compressor or condenser is probably slowly leaking. Regular car stuff. I DIY’d that repair and it’s as good as new.
Range Rovers are awesome. People usually treat them like crap and don’t maintain them properly before pushing those issues off on to someone else. They are pricey to run and people don’t realise that because they can get them at a good price but they definitely aren’t as bad as what people say. And why in the world would you take an old vehicle to the main dealer? You’re just looking for reasons to throw away money no matter the brand but instead take it to a specialist.
Range Rovers are not for kids . Sorry mate . If you don’t know how to drive one then don’t buy it . Ask the British. They know . They make cars for cold and rainy climates up to the Sahara desert. If you see a broken Land Rover always see the driver first
Range rovers break regardless of driver lol. My coworker bought a brand new one and it had to be towed to the dealership 3 times in the first year because it kept breaking. She drove it like a normal car, to work and back. To the grocery store. And it just couldn't handle it all that haha. British don't know how to make a car.
2 v6 range rovers one has 160,000 miles on it and runs excellent. These things are built to last. They remind me of international Travelalls which are superior. Do your own tune ups and oil changes. Do all you can and save the harder work for the mechanic
Buy what ever you want, maintenance every mot and fix parts if any that needs doing. Any main dear brand is a rip off so find a local garage you trust also do jobs that can be done yourself. Ive got a range rover sport v6 l494 2015 70k with 3 years of feeling like a rock star.😎🤩
@@suntzu94man I’ve seen a lot of older people on forums and in real life who’ve said that they’re older model Range Rover’s last 150k+ and these ppl stay loyal to the company. It’s gonna cost to keep it maintain but you’re gonna do that with any “classic” bmw, Mercedes jag or rover.
paid 17k for a 2014 same body style in the video over a year, same motor, no issues minus some wear items i had to do at 100k (brakes, tires, control arms)
This isn’t a review this is you explaining how you feel about this particular RR. Also the way you say “RANGE ROVER” and “$35,000” sounds like this is not the vehicle for YOU!
I've owned two Rover Sports before the one I own now. My first was a 2010, then a 2014 and my current is a 2014. I bought all 3 used and kept them well past 100,000 miles. Never ever had a problem. They aren't for broke people though. But, if you prefer to listen to people who know nothing about Rovers the go buy a Honda Pilot.
Three used Range Rovers, over 100,000 miles each, and no issues? 🙌👏 ..but hey, if flexing about not being ‘broke’ is part of the Range Rover ownership package.
All cars depreciate. Name on that doesn't. You know nothing about Rovers other than what you've "heard". You can't prove any first hand knowledge of what you're talking about. You should stick to Honda. They build those for people like you. Ive owned my 2014 V8 Range Rover for 4 years. Every maintenance cost number you said is false. You are so wrong that I'm classifying your video as click bait.
I’ve got rid of my 2015 Range Rover sport special trim that o bought for 45k. His prices were realistic because I’ve only got rid of it because it’s costed 33k to repair and 6k often.
@@GaudinX Most people? Do you know most people all over the world? Probably not. Before I bought my first Rover Sport I asked people who I saw driving them if they'd buy it again or buy another one. Every one of them said they'd buy another one. Now I'm on my 3rd. All this crap talk about them being bad is just crap talk from people who repeat stuff they've heard, or had a single bad experience so they now hate on all Rovers. I also own a BMW 740i, and I had a 750li before that. Both of them MUCH newer than my Rover. BOTH of them constantly in the shop. I won't ever buy another one, but I won't tell others that the 7 Series is a bad car. I justbsay that I had two bad experiences so I won't buy it again. I'm sure there is someone who swears they are the best car they've ever owned. I won't disagree with them based in that person's experience.
I love range rovers, you just can’t be an idiot and take it to the stealership, find a good independent mechanic, what the stealershiop will do for you for 3,000, they will do for $1500 , same part same quality work. That goes for any car but ESPECIALLY cars like range rovers, bmw
omg, the longest video saying old luxury cars are expensive to maintain.
Don’t get ripped off with a $1200 oil change. You can pull up to my garage and I’ll do it for $899 and toss in a headlight fluid flush free of charge!
🤣
did my own 5w20 syn for 60$ bro

Agreed. It’s all about luck, you could buy a Toyota that will blow up tomorrow. You always roll the dice with a used car
"You don't change your engine oil because it's going to cost your $1,200" um...no? That one line made this entire video lose its credibility.

This. They are fun though, so it’s nice to enjoy life.
I paid 12k for a 2013 with 60k miles on it.
If I ever decide to get a Range I will definitely lease for 2-3 years.
great informative video pointing out the downfalls, I liked the introduction to this video as well, Thanks y’all
