When I was a kid a car was unreliable when it needed a jump start more than once a week. Now a car is unreliable if a seat massage motor burns out.
Right? That’s where the JLR unreliability fame comes from.
Yes exactly. They’re very complex
We're also much more demanding as a species these days. Back in the 80's you would just get things that broke fixed when it was time for a service. Now we can't go a week without an automatically dimming rear view mirror. I'm as guilty as anyone of this, not judging@@HighPeakAutos
So true , people condem on silly things , “ my cup holder heater isn’t working “ probably a fuse
The problem is - Many of the electrical problems can lead to the car not starting..
Range rovers are like owning a puppy. You know it’s going to chew the furniture and pee in your slippers but you can’t be angry with it.
Although it might push your patience to the limit if it sh*ts on the carpet....
@@Brian-om2hh It's a question of when, not if.
Lmao this analogy is spot on 😂
I’ve had two range rovers now over ten years. Never been stranded with either of them. Worst I’ve had was a coolant leak. Well worth the trouble and I wouldn’t drive anything else.
When you lock a car and walk away, if you turn around for a quick look you know you bought the right one. Life is far too short, buy it, drive it and enjoy every mile, otherwise what's the point.
I’ve owned two Range Rovers over 6 years and have had zero issues with both of them.
i mean if its been sitting in your garage all day with zero milage, sure.
Yeah most people commenting just jealous they can’t afford one
Matt, there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of for enjoying the fruits of your honest, hard work. Another great and interesting video. 👍
Thanks
Now thats a fine motor fantastic presence on the road and obviously well looked after you deserve that car matt with all your hard work and dedication and keeping all us car freaks happy with your videos and knowledge thanks matt 👍
@HighPeakAutos l want a 322 desperately but to scared on my budget l find them as sexy as a Jag
He didn't work hard for this Range Rover... HE STOLE IT FROM THE POOR!
Seriously though, Matt. You're a good dude, have and enjoy all the nice things you want.
@tcaudiobooks737 what a passive aggressive thing to say u douche. I like u but,.... this man brings nothing but joy the good the bad & the massively overspent.!
I’m led to believe reliability went massively up with this generation. They’re still out of reach of the masses that will invariably mistreat them and complain that their then 15 year old, formerly £100,000 car has blown an engine after 30,000 miles at full tilt without so much as topping up the screen wash. They’re still in the range of people who follow service schedules, even if they don’t understand why it’s necessary.
Hahahaha, perfect.
Very valid point 👍
Superb! The comments section equivalent of having an English Heritage sticker on your windscreen.
...except that RR has had this poor reputation over many, many years and many, many thousands of vehicles produced. I'm sure there are owners who are as negligent as you say, but based on its extensive and proven track record one must conclude that RR's reputation for shit reliability is richly earned. Any other perspective is wishful thinking. That said, glad to hear their reliability is increasing.
I had a brand new BMW M135i for 6 months two years ago and the multimedia screens went blank on the motorway and the airbag light kept coming on for no reason. Also I work for a well known car insurance company and you'd be surprised how many times I have to adjust policies for people who had to take their audis back for issues that "couldn't be resolved". I truly believe people who own German cars are too embarrassed to declare the reality when they are unreliable and are happy to perpetuate the myth that they rarely break down.
I’ve got three German cars: one at 147,000 miles
One at 116,000 miles
One at 55,000
None of them have had any issues
Lol
Even if a German car is unreliable , you can still recoup some money , if its a Jaguar product you've just lost a small mortgage 😮
@@Monty-kr7py what you just said makes absolutely no sense.
@@thelifeandtimesofteddywint5396 😆 I think he’s trying to say that German cars hold their values more than others
But I have a Q7 thats the highest mileage
Then a f10 5 series second highest
E400 saloon at 55ish
Honestly they are reliable, I love the 5 series the most, solid as a rock
Just this week I picked up a 2012 Supercharged L322 with 37k miles on the odometer… just wanted to say thank you for all the Range Rover videos you’ve put out over the years!
Make sure its bolted down to your drive.

You summed up very well Matt. If a car still puts a smile on your face every time you walk up to it, its worth it regardless of the niggles. So true.
Doesn't mean it isnt a piece of crap
I'm on my second L405 and both have been excellent. Both 4.4d Autobiographys. 1st I drove to 190k second on 100k. A few small faults but nothing major. Highly rate them. 30mpg all day long. Also I've taken sensible precautions against theft. Rgds Happy RR Owner.
I'm at 80k on a 16 plate... 190k is amazing!
I love it when flip switches in your head 😊
Brilliant video, Matt 🙂 Love your honesty. That car suits you and you always have a spare car for a rainy day so why not. ❤❤❤
Mark McCann made a video on the update. It's to stop the doors from unlocking by remotely stealing the key fob signal.
Thanks for another great video Matt. I enjoy your stuff not just because of the car information but because your philosophy on life cheers me up!
Incredibly informative video.. Thanks Matt. Interesting to hear your dismissal of alternatives as well.
With you all the way fella! Big up the RR!
Successful guy, keep it up Matt.
You've come along way from the first video with a range Rover 👌
Enjoyed the video ,to quote the song "if it makes you happy it can't be that bad"
Thanks for being so honest (Especially the "That's why Range Rovers always appear at the bottom of the reliability surveys"). Keep the great videos coming!
Hello Matt, great little video and your car looks nice. Thanks for taking the time to share another video. Ged
No problem 👍
Great honest review Matt. I have driven a few Range Rovers over the years and must admit they do make you feel great behind the wheel, that wafting effect going down the road😎 extended warranty essential in my opinion . You put in a shift Matt you deserve the fruits of your labours . 👍
Hi Matt, I own a L405 SC 5.0 Litre 2015 Model which puts a smile on my face every time I walk up to her, and when driving her. Absolutely love her.
Great video Matt 👏🏻👍🏻 I’m glad you’re enjoying it (your Range Rover) guilt free! Life’s too short 😉😀👍🏻
Great Video Matt - my favourites are always something Land Rover - Have a D5 and i know what you mean about once you have driven a big LR.
Enjoy it Matt. You deserve each other!
When you jump into your car Matt it makes you feel good. I remember when you reviewed the XJ you feel good. The problems you might have melt away. All the best with Wembley gig.
Very good mate you always give a honest review
Thanks
@@HighPeakAutosMatt what about changing to the Volvo xc90 ? The new shape 2018 onwards look awesome
Matt
Really enjoyed that.
Informative and entertaining….and I like the Range Rover though as you say white wouldn’t be first choice.
This has confirmed my choice of next car, the L405 and thanks , on the lookout now .Thanks for the info.
That was very enjoyable. I’d never buy one but it’s interesting to have a proper overview of ownership
I bought my Toyota land cruiser amazon 12 years ago and nothing has ever gone wrong with it.
yes,i have had lots of cruisers and never any problem, so leaves lots of money for a real back massage
did anyone ask
That's awesome
Another Toyota bore 😴
@@andrewg9236 A Toyota is less boring than sitting at the roadside waiting for recovery or sat in the dealership waiting for repairs.
great honest video as always Matt , i think a defender 110 would really suit you .
The new Defender certainly has some pull. And I don't mean trailers and caravans. Having had a brief look at the LR website, I see it can be specced up to be as posh as you like....The problem is that if you hang onto it too long, it will let you down.....
Brilliant video, Matt! I got a 16 494 in 2022, and same like you would do it again, even though I've had minor issues. Actually thinking of taking advantage of the low prices & getting into the latest L405
Usual very honest review! Thanks.
To be honest I've had a shit day but when you upload it just makes my day just a bit better thank you matt
Hope tomorrow is better for you
Great to hear you massage issue had a happy ending.
I see what you did there lol
my kinda video, am hooked on this particular range rover thanks to you, lets watch
Hi Matt, I am very happy for you that you are at a good stage of your life, I am sure you will pass on your good fortune to others, as I believe when one does, it comes back even more, and so it goes round. You are a good advert for the trade, and I love your vids. Please keep up the good work, Respect.
Thanks so much! I believe in that
I like the white L405 Matt. She’s a beauty, luxury wafter. 👌what a great car. I’ve never had any reliability issues with my rangies in UK 🇬🇧 or New Zealand 🇳🇿 just look after them and serviced them on date, using premium fuel and maintained warranty and I’ve had no issues. I don’t smoke and don’t drink. So rangies are my choice for pleasure and a lovely relaxing drive. I can’t defend the mpg. You know what you’re getting yourself in to. I’m not convinced about the L460 styling either. It’s not for me. Will get another L405 soon in UK 🇬🇧
Our Volvo V70, 2009, has 238000 miles, has not been a bit of trouble and the only time the bonnet is opened is to fill the windscreen washer bottle up.
I assume it’s a manual. The autos on Volvos tend to give a lot of trouble
Me too 2009 V70. Comfortable, spacious, just goes and goes and goes. Consumables and oil changes. New car? Not until this one dies…..replacement, 2011 V70.
I had a 2008 V70 D5 from 110k to 170k over ten years.
It had one fault, the power steering pump which was a Ford part.
Also being Ford, it was a cheap replacement.
Eventually I replaced it with the V90 Cross Country which although it’s been 100% reliable, doesn’t give the hewn from granite feel of the old Volvos
I have a 2014 mondeo diesel with 235k and rising. Never any issues coz I service it regularly. Last 3 mot's no advisories
Nice car but I bet you've spent loads keeping it on the road. The suspension components and electrics are made out of butter.
Great video. Balanced view all round.
The new ones fab.
The l405 is fab.
The l322 is fab.
Worth every penny and slight headache.
Great car.
Matt, what did The Sun call you? A car guru?? 😂 Keep up the great work fella 👍
Haha car guru, car expert, car whizz… they love me over at The Sun 😂
Great video Matt. I’m buying one now !
Great video and I have too agree with you you can keep all the other brands the only luxury 4x4 you will ever need is a range rover I do love them and I agree with you the new ones are not a patch on the older versions 👍
21mpg is not bad, my e39 540i averages 19mpg and my CL500 even less 🤣 We don’t drive these kinda cars to save money but because we value the quality ride they offer and the daily smiles they put on our faces. Life’s too short for bad cars and economy class 😎
You have always been a diver Matt ( in the nicest possible way )👌👌👌👌
Nice video and thanks for the advice!
Mat, I beg to disagree with your assessment. The L322 is the best Range Rover ever made, in my opinion.😇😇😇
As a 2011 L322 Autobiography owner, I think the saying goes…The L405 is a better car but the L322 is a better Range Rover.
When my massage seat failed, a local guy in a blacked out Range Rover offered me a real Thai lady to live in the car ready to give me a real massage any time i wanted - only 5 quid a day. 10 quid for a “happy ending” apparently, whatever that is. I told him I didn’t need it because I watch #highpeakautos videos and they always end happily for me.
Have you still got his number? Asking for a friend 😉
@@Phuc_Yhou Ha hahahahahah! :-)
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂
It might have been as well to keep the business card......Care is needed though, as I understand not all Thai ladies are quite what they seem. In which case, the "happy ending" you mentioned, might not turn out the way you anticipated......
You embody prestige and class, just like your Range Rover. Keep shining and inspiring others😎
Honest review! I love how you didn't sugarcoat the niggles but still love the car overall. That massage seat story had me laughing. Totally get why a non-functioning massage seat on a luxury car would be annoying. Would definitely watch more of your content!
I have owned my L405 4.4 autobiography for just over a year now, still love it, nothing comes close for the money.
Proper 4x4 , nice cars the only one i would buy .Shame they had faults .
Back massage ? lol.
Great vids .
You can buy my 03 Yaris , no advisoris , 0-60 in half an hour .60 to the gallon .Never let me down .🤣🤣
XC90, so nice in the correct guise
And according to the stats no more reliable than the Discovery it’s pitched against. Note discovery not RR. XC90 isn’t in the same league
Great video, very honest and answers some good questions. I agree it’s much nicer than the new one & that it’s pretty much peerless. I have an XC90 that’s coming up for 6 years old now and I’m looking at one of these to replace it. That said however, it’s been faultless throughout my ownership & the issues with LR products (I’ve owned one previously), plus the insurance, do put me off a bit…
great attitude Matt look to the future 👍very informative video.
I have Audi A5 and as you say never left me stranded but all the time something electrical fails. I had an extended warranty for the last 2 years and 70 000miles and it got more than 10k in repairs. Most recent bill I dodged was adblue fix which was 3500 new tank, pump and ECU. some other stuff that was breaking air recirculation flap motor(800), heated mirror(300), cracked front control arm bushes and lower control arm bush at 80k miles(1900), heated seat backrest(500). My point is, all luxury cars are the same and I dont know who is crazy enough to own these without warranty.
I will never ever let you out at a junction.
Still the best car in the world! I've seen you drive past a couple of times and I've been frantically flashing my lights 😂😂
Beep your horn aswel he might hear you, I see this Range Rover a few times up and down the A34, majestic car
Haha it is well and truly magnificent! It has such road presence that no other car can match or even come close to!
Nice honest review, lacking the gimmicks of others on RUclips. Sweet…
Finally got around to watching this!
Was great to meet you and your team at Petrolheadonism the other week
You too!
Just coming upto 12 months of ownership on my l405, got one because your recommendation mat and I don’t regret it one bit , got it from LR Knutsford, just had a service and mot with them , passed with no advisorys, had a few niggles my self however the warranty they offer is fantastic, RR knutsford are definitely a great dealership in my experience

I never think about it.
Can I adopt your mindset? I will over analyse to the point I end up buying nothing and sticking with my 20 year old golf 😂
Only when you has money
I totally agree with this. I used to like a car and buy it. After a couple of years something else will have caught my eye and I'd get that. Now for some reason (I've got older maybe...) I'm all about the MPG and tax and will it break?! 🤯 Where's the fun gone?
@@jb39channel If I were to stop & think about how much sense it makes to own 3 cars (2 V8's & 1 V6) I would conclude that it makes NO sense. The thing is; Fun doesn't need to make sense. It just needs to make you happy.
Thanks Matt this is Amazing. But I'll have to disagree with you on your view about the latest range rover. I'm a RR fanatic and to me I think the latest one is the best ever made especially in terms of design.
Just bought a Range Rover Evoque recently, so far so good 😅

Hi mat I completely agree with you for me there’s no other car that makes you feel special I have had my white L322 for ten years now which you have seen in passing, and it’s only let me down twice I followed your advice regarding servicing and gearbox, diff and transfer box fluid change and get it serviced ever year in February i thought I’d buy an L405 spent 3 weeks looking for the spec I wanted did a deal with mine tried to get it insured and was practically laughed at every time I try to get a quote so unfortunately the dealer decided to take his car back and I’m still with my L322 which I still love great to see yours out and about, hope you are well great video as always hope you had an amazing holiday best wishes ian.

Matt, you should try a Volvo XC90 T8 Ultimate (bright). That’s the only car that costs less/the same that is almost up to the level of a Range Rover.
I can say it. Love Range Rovers and my mother loves Volvos. Using both, for sure, better than a BMV, Audi or Mercedes.

The one thing I have learned is 95% of the haters and keyboard warriors have never even sat in a Range Rover never mind owned one .

And one day we are going to move back to the UK and will be looking to buy a car from you! Would love to find a Discovery 4!
You were right in the beginning, it is a wags car 🤣 Those kind of minor issues should not happen on a car like that!
Sadly, with LR, the minor issues seem to develop into larger ones....
People in the UK couldn't get parts , the police raided loads of chop shops here in the Midlands. It was land rover supply change crisis that caused the theft epidemic
There was that and they were being exported to foreign markets, it was happening with supercars as well, most notably Ferraris

This, of course, ultimately leads to the mind wandering to the next unjustifiable purchase. Perfect. 👍🏼
Hi from Australia Matt. Totally agree with your video. Have had three(‘81 five door and’90 3.9 litre five door) last one was 2001 L322 one owner with full history and invoices. Gave me no problems for two years ( completed a 5500 kilometre trip to central Australia) before requiring a tailgate lock then a compressor for the air suspension. Front driveshaft failed soon after being sold after three years of ownership. Also despite a lot of criticism I found the bmw diesel was a good engine and never gave any trouble. Comfortable long distance car and can carry everything you need. Cheers. Alex.

Why anyone would choose a Range Rover over the equivalent Lexus baffles me
