KTS will forever be in the hall of fame of Table Tennis. His footwork and speed are legendary. His protege RSM plays a lot like him too.

Waldner's game sense and deft touches are brilliant but he's no match against power hitters like Kim Taek Soo and Ryu Seung Min. That lazy blocking and pushing the ball here and there is just too weak against the bolts that these guys throw.

I saw Waldner vs Kim Teak Soo live in WTT 93, quarter final, Waldner made him look like an beginner, in the end even the Swedish audience cheered for Kim when he won a point. Waldner 32 years old won WTT without losing one set. At 34 years old he occasionally played less god matches, but he was in the Olympics final in 2000. Age 35. Further Waldner/Persson beat the Chines excellent team in 2000, the last time(?) the Chinese team lost. Hard hitters was not the players Waldner had issues with during his prime, but players with very good backhands, like Primorac and sometimes Mazonov.

@@SuperHammaren waldner is 28 yrs old in 1993 vs 23 year old in 1993, age and experience could have something to do with it. or maybe just a bad game. looks like kim taek soo took home a bronze in doubles though for that event en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_World_Table_Tennis_Championships

@@keith_franz Kim was good, no doubt. When Waldner peaked his game though he crushed his opponents. But he was a little more uneven than Ma Long, the semis in WTTC 93 he played less well for example and lost to Saive.

@@SuperHammaren There is a saying "any given Sunday" meaning, anyone can beat anyone. I think this is especially true in a game like table tennis where styles can clash and you only have yourself to rely on (singles). When I think of Saive, it seems to me he's putting more effort or wasted movement into his strokes than other people. Having said that, Saive certainly deserves to be held in the highest respects. Reading his Wikipedia, what a beast! Kim Taek-Soo Wiki is basically empty, what a shame :( Cheers!
