Joo Se-hyuk’s forehand opening is too predictable. Time and again Waldner is able to redirect with a forehand block down the line. From there on there’s no way for Joo to continue the attact. It is also remarkable how many free points and easy openings Waldner gets on his serve when you consider the defender mentality that Joo has on the return. Crazy to think that Joo reached the wttc final the same year. Waldner really had a feel for playing defenders.

Не хватало характера у Самсонова на всех крупных соревнованиях. На ОИ 1996 в четвертьфинале вел 2:0 с Ван Тао и слил этот матч на мандраже. ЧМ 97 проиграл Вальднеру еще в раздевалке. ОИ 2000 должен был брать, форма была сумасшедшая, но 2:0 по партиям и опять сгорел в четвертьфинале Вальднеру 2:3. ОИ 2004 провалил проиграв какому то ноунейму. ОИ 2008 проиграл Персону с 2 матчболов и с 3:1 по партиям. Затем проигрышы Джан Цзике в 2012 и 16 году. Вообщем разбазарил столько шансов за свою 25-летнюю карьеру выиграть самые почетные титулы в настольном теннисе, так не став ни Чемпионом Мира, ни медалистом ОИ.

I think Ma Lin is one of the largely underestimated players in Table Tennis. It’s recorded that he’s the player with most spiny serve and difficult to play against.
