Gary, your videos are class. I'm a uk palm enthusiast and I've learnt so much from watching your stuff. Love the videos, love the entertainment. Cheers man. Much appreciated 👍
Thanks. Of course I have more fun making the videos than my viewers have watching them believe it or not. Got to entertain myself somehow. Thanks for watching
Yeah, I can totally understand if I lived in the land of ice that I would be watching my channel constantly. I am down in Mexico right now not to rub it in, but can't imagine being surrounded by ice. I would probably freak out.
Hello Gary... I'm wondering if you would happen to know where I could find some king palms (or seeds) here in Southern California, specifically in the Moreno Valley/Inland Empire area
Dude. This was an awesome video. The sample size is small but I’m willing to assume that you make everyone around you better. I came for palm tree education and remembered the importance of great personality in the process.
My dad said when I was a really little kid we would be driving down the road and I'd point outside the window and scream look at the palm trees! The only difference between now and then is I have a video camera in my pocket all the time.
I love the royal palm. I don’t see them in Southern California very often. Lots in Florida. I tried some seedlings recently but they didn’t make it. I’d like to find some in a 5 gallon size pot.
I heard there was a difference between the Cuban Royal Palm and Florida Royal Palm. The trunk is wider at the bottom on the Cuban but the Florida Royal Palm is more cold tolerant. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Im in zone 9b, Texas and love and want the royal palm.
There's been an ongoing argument about this for many years and I don't think they've ever resolved whether they are different species or not. I like to think there truly is a native Florida royal but I believe the latest consensus is that they were introduced long long ago and naturalized. There were some going down on the Texas coast but I think they got nuked in the last big freeze
The Royal is the most beautiful of all palm trees, but those fronds can cause a lot of damage when shedded, so you have to be careful where you plant them.
Do you think a royal palm would survive in phoenix weather? maybe a foxtail?, I would like a tropical look for my backyard but I don’t want to waste time and money
@@ScaryHairyGary I remember you recommended getting a chainsaw for each palm so that is what I'm going to do. Suckers cost 560.00 bucks each though. I saw a video of a guy using a cut off saw to trim his.
It would be a challenge to grow either one of these palms in Vegas as it just gets a bit too cold for either one of them out there. You might be able to do it in a couple select spots right next to big tall buildings that would give protection during really cold freezes. The king palm might burn in the summertime as well but the Royal Palm can take a ridiculous amount of heat
If you fly over Cuba, all you see are Royal Palms everywhere that are seriously old in places where no one planted them. It’s under debate whether they’re actually native to Florida or not, and I believe the consensus is that they are not although I like to think that they are native there. And as far as I know, they are not native to Mexico. we are living in a time where it’s all transitory as to where things are native to because we shook up the whole globe like a snow globe and now seeds are everywhere so 10 years, they won’t know what was to wear if they don’t figure it out right now
Heck yeah, I just made a video today in Mexico, showing a bunch of beautiful boards a guy made that he used to face the front of his bar at his restaurant.

I live in the land of ice and love seeing the plants in the warm parts of the planet thanks and keep up the good work. Also love the enthusiasm 👍

Lindas as duas, mas a Palm Royal mais exuberante, fabulosa realmente. Parabens pela comparação e descrição das características, excelente registro.

Yeah, 70% of people love me and the rest can't stand me. The way I like it. Thanks for being in the majority.
I love these walking tour videos you do. I learn so much and love the eye candy! (Palms )

They are the same species, the Cuban royal palm’s range extends into Florida
Thank you very much, great explanation,?? Can anyone tell me how to repair the big wide cracks opening up on my beautiful king palms in ventura ca.?
They will fill in on their own in time
royal palms are my favotie palms.

What do you mean? I have two young ones but why does it matter where you plant them regarding shedded fronds?
@@albertusanoniem9043 Cause the fronds can weigh around 60 lbs in an adult Royal.
Extremely informative, thanks!! I would love to see more palm tree comparison videos
They do well in South Africa too...
I really need to get down there

Yes, Royals do well in Phoenix I have heard
I saw royals in Miami Beach that were all green
Can phoenix canariensis be maintained with that prune job? I'd like to keep mine pruned that way because of its wide spread.
Not ideal but should be OK I won’t if you keep Fusarium out

Go and purchase the echo 310 or 320 14 inch chainsaw at Home Depot for $199. It works great
awesome royal palm here
Very fun and informative video! 😃👍
Which palm grows faster the Royal or the King palm?
royal 100%
As a note: The Kentia palm is a very slow grower but is the most tropical looking palm in the video.
Does the king or the royal palm grow faster?
@@sebastianteubl4525 Usually the king palm, but it depends if you keep them healthy.
Brother what is name of long plam tree behind
mexican fan palm
Can both of these two palm grow in vegas climate zone 9a?
Tia

Try a queen palm
Random comment: Royal Palms are native to Florida and Mexico, as well as the Caribbean. It's unlikely that came from Cuba.

Anyone know if palm trees can be cut into planks for unusual finished boards
Heck yeah, I just made a video today in Mexico, showing a bunch of beautiful boards a guy made that he used to face the front of his bar at his restaurant.
I like coconut palms better
You passed by my Mom’s house 🏡
Fun.
You described no difference
I beg to differ
Loves LA? Looks like crap, being from Miami.
Loves LA as compared ton SF. Agreed about Miami
