Gospel of Luke 15:20 "And he arose and came to his father. But when he was still a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion, and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him." Stay strong, Toby Mac. You'll see your boy again.
I have a 21-year old son and this song was devastating to me. Toby Mac is 55... not 40 and he has so much integrity to sing about God for decades and not compromise his faith.
My son died of an accidental overdose at 21. This song ministers to me. Thank you, Lane Bros, for reviewing this song. Your reaction was genuine and touched my heart. Trust in Jesus if you haven't already, and live your lives to the fullest: for HIM.
I have a 21-year-old son and I cannot even fathom losing him. I have to remind myself everyday is precious that I have with my children and that God has blessed me by giving them to me because ultimately they're his children. We are his children and he loans these amazing human beings to us to enjoy and love. I don't let myself sweat the small stuff anymore especially after losing so many people in such a short amount of time over the last 10 years. My mother, my father, cousins, my best friend committed suicide a few months ago, and I've lost more friends than I can even count because of drugs. I have a really hard time with loss and coping with it so to see the strength coming through TobyMac it's 100% God's strength that's what I've realized is I don't have the strength that's why I need a savior to give me his strength. Thank you for your beautiful respectful reaction 🙏💖
❤I am so sorry about your family and your friend, just remember you still have so many things to live for (your son especially)! I will be praying for you and your son! 🤗❤❤
Everytime I hear this, I flat out ugly cry 😭. Mr. Toby Mac created such a beautiful, beautiful song for his son 💖. Sometimes I think artists create masterpieces to perform and others to hold a little closer to thier hearts 💓. It's a cathartic kind of healing for them. I womder if he will be performing this live? For me personally, I'd be a mess and be in fetal position on the stage bawling. MUCH LOVE AND RESPECT ✨🌟 To Mr. Toby Mac and his family 💖!!
@@lorettarowell8486 when he does the cry out at the end you can feel that pain... It's so real. I honestly don't know how he does it. We lost our son in much the same way Toby did right after his 20th birthday on April 1st last year. This song brought me to tears before but now it hits so deep. So grateful for it though. It is so beautiful ❤️
Toby mac is an incredible Christian artist who lets God flow in all his work! One of the Best songs to see where his heart is “You can steal my show!” My heart breaks for him in the raw emotion that comes out in 21 years! I’m praying for him and his family!
TobyMac is one of the best christian artists ever. His son passed away at the end of last year due to an accidental drug overdose. The night before he passed he played his first show/concert. He can be heard on a few of his fathers songs. Check out Backseat Driver. His son is on that song. His son talks about the peer pressure of being a teen how loves Jesus.

Got a lot of love and respect for Toby with this one...I know all too well the tone of that heart felt cry of pain in this song. My wife of 30years passed just a few months before his son Alex passed and my mother died just a few months after. I caught toby last year live in concert, it touched the whole crowd the same way it touched me, not a dry eye in the house.
I got to see TobyMac in concert last year 3 months after his son passed away. When he performed this song, it was SO powerful and emotional. I don't think there was a dry tear in the whole auditorium.
Ok this is about as genuine reaction as you can possibly get. Absolutely NO idea going in. Jamming at first until the realization hits you square in the gut. I appreciate this.
Saw this here. Changed my life. As a father and veteran suffering with deppression, this changed my life. Im listening to this and know it's going to be ok.
The 27 people who disliked the song must have been ugly crying and misclicked because there is no way on earth that they disliked this masterpiece on purpose.
Toby Mac is one of my all time favorites. Been around for a very long time. His sons death shook me to my core. Absolutely love this song and appreciate your very real reaction to it.
After hearing about it i was completely shocked about his sudden death i cried for toby and his family, then i heard 21 years recently about alittle over two weeks ago and the pain for toby intensified. Prays out for you toby and family
"Did you wrap him up inside your arms and let him know that he's home?" Those words still get me. I lost a brother in 2017 and though he wasn't my son, this song still hits me deep. Miss you bro, so much. I will see you again in heaven
Only God could work through a man and gift him with a song after such a sudden and tragic loss. You feel drawn into the song while your heart is breaking. Toby's belief in Father God through his intense pain is a testament of his faith. No doubt, others in similar situations will find comfort and hope through this. Let's keep Toby and his family in our prayers.
I just heard this via another reactor, then went to the artist page to view, then here. Crying, throat hurting trying not to bawl. I've lost 2 people to suicide and have a son that attempted 3 times so can relate to this angst. What a gorgeous, heartbreaking song, even in despair thanking God for the gift of his son and the time they had. Great react, no words, just tears.
I’m so deeply sorry for such a painful loss.. find your peace and strength i God he knows what you’re going through just pray and talk to him even just laying i your bed and crying or driving alone in the car and the pain creeps in and you just cry and cry and feel like you could never stop crying cry out to Jesus🙏🏻
It was announced weeks after his passing that it was confirmed to be an accidental overdose. So very sad. One of the many things I appreciate about this moving song is that he works into the lyrics that he was looking forward to his 2nd show. And then at the end he uses "show" to refer to Toby's time on earth.💔
Toby has lived his life for Jesus and this test of his faith proved his strength. I look up to TobyMac. You should check out his other stuff. He's incredibly talented.
Gah. My eyes are still bawling with this song. I told my mom after the news of his son’s death that he needs to take the time he needs for his family but we would be hearing a new song from him as he processes his emotions. TobyMac didn’t disappoint.
Hey men. I saw this song the day after it was posted and cried like I was 7. I'm 57. Your vid popped in my feed. Knowing you were watching for the first time and realizing what was going down made me leak all over again. Thank you for being so brave and real. The cause of TruDog's death is none of my business, but our wonderful friends lost their 21 year old son almost 3 years ago. Parents found him in his bed with a needle in his thigh. How can we stop this crap!?! God help us. In the meantime, keep being examples to others. It's okay to feel pain and heartache instead of numbing them or replacing them with something else because those feelings mean we are ALIVE. Peace.
I'm 43 and have cried at least 10 times to this song. And just like you I cried watching this guy cry as he realizes what happened. I have a 13 year old daughter and it makes me really realize nobody is guaranteed life.
Same. My little brother died at the same age and around the same time as Truett did; my brother's godbrother died the year after. This feels really personal to me with the threes.
Lost my first-born son when he was 19 here in Nashville too. Our sons seemed to have a lot of the same interests and struggles. Thankful for this song does a great job of expressing so many thought and fellings I have. So thankful he wrote it and produced it as I'll never have the skill to say it like he did. I have no idea how he ever able to record this, let alone perform it live. But I'd love to hear it live. I'll have have to look for a Nashville show soon.
I love your reactions. Yes! I have the same reaction to the majority of his songs. I still can't believe he's 56. I remember his with DC Talk. He's from the DC area. He performs now with Diverse City (DC).
I grew up listening to Tobymac since his DC Talk days. He’s such an amazing Christian singer/rapper and he used to feature his son as a little boy in his songs. The part where he screams and show little clips of Truett are literally heartbreaking. I cried like a baby.
You should listen to more Tobymac songs, for example The Elements, Edge Of My Seat, they are more up lifting songs, and he also made the song Scares for his son.
I just found out his son died when I saw another one of his songs on this record. My youngest loved hearing Tobys son sing on his records. I cried the first time I heard this. He is the best and his songs are healing me from losing my sister 2 years ago from being murder.
Not even sure why this came up in my recommended but I wanted to say thank you so much for this reaction video. We lost our son in April last year just a month after his 20th bday in much the same manner as Toby's did... It's a beautiful song that I am so very grateful for. His live video where he sings it is just so moving. The cry out he does at the end - you feel it in your soul... Thank you so much for sharing.
I wanted to hug you and hold your hand through the video when I saw you put the pieces together ... shifting from musical critics to compassionate people sharing another believers grief. It’s the parent in me, I suppose. I deeply appreciate you sharing your deep, sincere, and real responses instead of editing them out. I’m glad you have each other to lean on, and I pray for the healing for any family that has ever suffered the grief that Toby Mac is going through.
It's not that Toby Mac is strong but that the Holy Spirit is strong in him! As Christians we are not to "grieve like people who have no HOPE"... "And now, dear brothers and sisters, we want you to know what will happen to the believers who have died so you will not grieve like people who have no HOPE. For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with Him the believers who have died. We tell you this directly from the Lord: We who are still living when the Lord returns will not meet Him ahead of those who have died. For the Lord Himself will come down from heaven with a commanding shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet call of God. First, the believers who have died will rise from their graves. Then, together with them, we who are still alive and remain on the earth will be caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. Then we will be with the Lord forever. SO encourage each other with these words." ~1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 "FAITH shows the reality of what we HOPE for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see." ~Hebrews 11:1 That, my friends, is where his strength comes from! Our HOPE is in Jesus KNOWING that we will see our loved ones again who are believers! "For by GRACE you have been saved through FAITH, and that not of works; it is the Gift of God." ~Ephesians 2:8
Watertheirsouls My sweet son was 22 years old when he went to heaven and Jesus has carried me! What a wonderful awesome God we have!! Thank you for sharing these scriptures!! God Bless You!!!
I loved the fact that you at least had heard of TobyMac before this reaction. Loved that you guys went right for it without having any background to the song. Reaction was REAL!! 💯
Ugh man I miss this dude so much. Forever be my childhood crush, like 8 year old me, is like screaming he wasn’t my hubby😂😭 I’m still upset. He’s up in the sky rn thank god
TobyMac is an INCREDIBLE hip hop artist .....seriously look up more of his tunes....he's got style, beats, and a powerful message....going strong for decades! I pray that God keeps him going!
I remember being on my school bus, and I saw a post on Instagram and i looked it up and saw that it was true. and man I was so in shock. I remember being in my cousins room playing one of the songs Tobys son was on and jaming to it. and then I heard this and I started to cry. Number one this shows how open Tobymac is, he doesnt make things seem ok because he's a christian. and Man I still get teary eyed listening to this song
He’s a Christian artist who’s 21 year old son died of an accidental overdose. He was starting his own singing career and got pulled into this crazy world. I don’t know your beliefs but when your young you think your invincible and your life on this earth will last forever. Not true, no one is promised another second let alone another day. My heart and prayers go out to Toby and his family. I can’t imagine losing a child . His family is walking through the valley of the shadow of death but their eyes are on God. God bless both of you and keep you safe. If you haven’t read a bible please pick one up and read.
Please don’t be sorry to cry, your gentle hearts are a breath of fresh air. Grief and loss SHOULD drive us to cry, to express compassion and sadness for others. This kind of loss is the absolute worst…..when my brother died, it was, and still is the very worst moment my family has ever been through.
I thought the title to your video was just Clickbait at first. I thought, “surely they know” and then y’all were dancing and laughing at first and I was like “they can’t know.” And then I kept watching and the way your faces slowly changed from happy and feeling the beat to a blank stare and almost no body movements, made me cry all over again. So sad he was taken too soon and I pray that this song touches someone down the line to change their ways, including me.
You guys went from being so upbeat to down. I love that you guys did a video to Toby Macs 21 years. I listened to the song and cried for hours. Hope you guys stayed okay the rest of the day!
I lost my 21 year old son a few months before he lost his. I promise you there is no greater pain for a mom than to lost a part of her heart and soul. Toby’s pain is legit.
Toby still makes some of the best music in the christian realm and this song is superior. If it doesnt hit you deep in your heart you just dont have one. I cry EVERY SINGLE TIME i hear it. Idk how he can perform it. It isnt even just the words! Towsrd thr end when the music swells and he sings the ohs really gets me. Definitely one his best!
Tobymac is in his mid-50s, in fact, he's my age. He recently lost his son, Tru, who died in 2019. It is really hard when you loose a child. I think, Tobymac found his way to talk about what feelings he has been going through. Losing a child is devastating, and this was his lament and prayer for his son.
Yes he’s a Christian Rapper. Truett passed away in October or last year. He’s also sang that song live at his shows even though it’s still pretty raw he sings it well.
The unfortunate context to this song is he lost his son. His son ended his own life after doing his first show, he was an artist like his father. It’s a true tragedy.
Love the review and just how much you felt a father's pain. I too, would yell so loud till my vocal chords couldn't take it any more. Thanks for the real emotions and your thoughts. God Bless
Lost his son to drug overdose. “You said you'd turn, you would turn it around. Thought that you had time to straighten it out. Told me that you were my prodigal son. But this isn't home.” Tragic.
My brother-in-law was murdered on 4th of July 10years ago.Left 5 children behind. Hardest thing a cousin ordered it and person who did it is still walking free. I believe becuz my mother-in-law made a choice to forgive her nephew and person who did things could of been worse. God have me these words a week before my Grace and Mercy is over him. What the devil meant for evil God turned it around and he has shown us in so many ways he’s with him in heaven. I witnessed my husband tell his shooter I forgive you. God has given us his supernatural peace. We know we will see him again.
21 years makes a man full grown, 21 years what a beautiful loan, 21 years I loved every one thank you Lord for my beautiful son.

SO encourage each other with these words."
~1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
"FAITH shows the reality of what we HOPE for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see."
~Hebrews 11:1
That, my friends, is where his strength comes from!
Our HOPE is in Jesus KNOWING that we will see our loved ones again who are believers!
"For by GRACE you have been saved through FAITH, and that not of works; it is the Gift of God."
~Ephesians 2:8

I loved the fact that you at least had heard of TobyMac before this reaction. Loved that you guys went right for it without having any background to the song. Reaction was REAL!! 💯
I got to see TobyMac perform this live, it was so powerful. Truly a great song.

Where did you read it was accident overdose?
Emily Christianson
Online from the coroner’s report, it was adderall and fentanyl .
Hes 56 now and still performing
Yeah, he is a Christian artist, he does Hip Hop and pop, he's pretty good. Growing up, he was my favorite artist
DC Talk ❤❤❤
Gents, I get it... I had the same reaction
I love toby mac new song 21 I can feel his grief
You guys went from being so upbeat to down. I love that you guys did a video to Toby Macs 21 years. I listened to the song and cried for hours. Hope you guys stayed okay the rest of the day!
I lost my 21 year old son a few months before he lost his. I promise you there is no greater pain for a mom than to lost a part of her heart and soul. Toby’s pain is legit.
Seen tobymac 25yrs ago! Heartbreaking!!!
Dc talk was the music for me since I was four maybe five. I have the utmost love and respect for Toby Mac.
Thank you guys for doing this video! He is DYING inside! You guys are awesome for seeing his video! God bless you!
Thank you for sharing your reaction with us.
TobyMac songs are outstanding
You can hear the pain in the line ( walk you through those Alex blues).I have cried at least 10 different times listening to song
The unfortunate context to this song is he lost his son. His son ended his own life after doing his first show, he was an artist like his father. It’s a true tragedy.
son was singer to and he OD at 21 ! LOVE your music Toby Mac
Love the review and just how much you felt a father's pain. I too, would yell so loud till my vocal chords couldn't take it any more. Thanks for the real emotions and your thoughts. God Bless
I enjoyed y’all’s reaction, very much. You have good hearts.
Toby Mac is a Christian artist. He used to be with DC Talk. His son dies from an overdose, not long ago.
Lost his son to drug overdose. “You said you'd turn, you would turn it around. Thought that you had time to straighten it out. Told me that you were my prodigal son. But this isn't home.” Tragic.
My brother just lost his 19-yo grandson last week. It's so sad to lose someone so young.
Love you guys, I just found you and will listen more!
