Toby is THE OG of Christian Hip Hop. Alot of people have probably heard of Jesus Freak and don't realize it's Toby Mac during the DC Talk days.

Yes and several songs have been in commercials and a movie or 2. I've seen him like 6 or 7 times in concert, listened to TruDog aka Truett Foster McKeehan on his earlier solo (w/ Diverse City band) work. Without personally knowing someone I've never been straight sad and broken for someone...for like 2 wks. I was in a line to meet him at Spirit West Coast yrs ago...he flew in (after the band) and was driving around some wild fires to get to the show though and ended up missing the meet and greet (he always does like 4 days of shows straight, 3 days home...so he can be w/ his fam...he records early so he can wind down and eat dinner w/ his family and spend the evening together b/c they are his priority...being the best artist and father he can be). I met Brian "The Bomb" Haley his longtime drummer instead at SWC. Have seen Newsboys w/ Michael Tait like 4 times, w/ Peter alone once, and Peter+Michael as leads 2 times. Missed DC Talk unfortunately. They performed at a Billy Graham Crusade in Fresno CA but Charlie Daniels won out the day before or next day rather b/c my parents didn't know DC Talk then unfortunately. That would have been awesome. Saw Kevin Max w/ Peter and Michael w/ the Newsboys late last year. TobyMac rocks...add in the other talent of Diverse City. DJ Maj. Mr. Talkbox. Miss Nirva Dorsaint Ready his longtime lead band vocalist. Her voice is amazingggg. But the replacement gal is good too.
i grew up listening to DC Talk. TobyMac and Michael Tait and Kevin Max were my first taste of Christian rap/rock

Man when I heard about his son, it hit home, then he came out with this song and I couldn’t hold my tears back, I grew up on Toby MAC and I have 2 kids of my own.

TobyMac is an amazing person. I grew up on him listening to every song and album he put out. It's so sad that Truett is gone. He was always excited when he would sing with his dad on his albums when he was a little kid. My heart goes to him and the family....

He lost his 21 year old son at the end of October of this last year. You can see the heaviness of the grief all over him. Make sure and watch it all the way through without stopping the video. Its pretty powerful and heartbreaking.

I've watched all the reaction videos I can find of this song. And yet, every time, I come back to yours. You are the only one, in dozens of videos that addressed the courage, strength, and will power it took for Toby to create this tribute to Truett. I've known Toby Mac since the early days with DC Talk, from my Christian Radio days in the early 90's. Pp
He is the "real" thing. He practices what he preaches. His life is a living testimony to his relationship with Jesus Christ. To endure this kind of raw pain, in the loss of his son, I cannot imagine that kind of gut wrenching heartbreak. That pain is evident in this video when he just screams at the top of his voice. Its as though I'm intruding on a private moment. This video is not only a tribute to his beautiful son, but it is also a testimony of who Christ is, and who He can be in your life. This video shows Toby's intimate moments of grief, yes,, but its foundation is built hope. There is the knowledge and understanding that one day, he will get to see Tru and hold him again. That knowledge and conviction is only possible in the Hope that Christ gives us. In Jesus Christ, there is Hope. John 3:16.

I have played this song 50 times at least. I lost my 25 year old son December 13,2019. He struggled with depression and addiction. He lost that battle and I lost my heart. The anguish in my heart and soul is unbearable. Thank you Lord for my beautiful son💔

What a powerful song... TobyMac is the OG and no parent should ever have to bury their child - that's not how life was intended. You can really see how broken he was.
I can't even imagine the strength it took for Toby Mac to even write this let alone perform it.
Checked you out for the first time today. I wanted to see your reaction to Toby Mac. I have to say it was the best and most heart felt reaction and tribute 💔. I think you would really like his song and video for "Love Broke Thru". He's an amazing artist. I met him and his parents when I was a DJ for a Christian radio station. He's just as he seems. This hits home for me. I lost my son May of 2019. He was 6. Every lyric in this song hits different because I too am grieving. It's not easy and it never will be but I know the Lord has both of our children wrapped up safe and sound. We will be with them again and I hold on to that everyday that I'm given another breath of life. To anyone who has ever lost a child, I am and will always be praying for you and you will hold a special place in my heart. God bless you.

Toby is an awesome guy! I met him before a concert and had the privilege of eating lunch with him and we chatted about a lot, and one of those things was about not selling out and being authentic to what you believe, he is the real deal! Love ya man, keeping you and your family in our prayers!

If there's ever been a song that's real, this is it. TobyMac is a legend in Christian music. We fans watch his son grow up along the way. He's even been featured on a few of his Dad's tracks. Like all of us, though, he made some mistakes along the way. Unfortunately, his cost him his life. I can't imagine the heartbreak his family felt and still feels today, but by TobyMac mourning through his music, we get a taste of his pain. It's familiar to everyone who has lost a loved one, & it hits you no matter how many times you've heard the song. Before this happened, not everybody felt his music, but everybody did feel his pain when he lost his son, and that's love.

I have a 21-year-old son and I cannot even fathom losing him. I have to remind myself everyday is precious that I have with my children and that God has blessed me by giving them to me because ultimately they're his children. We are his children and he loans these amazing human beings to us to enjoy and love. I don't let myself sweat the small stuff anymore especially after losing so many people in such a short amount of time over the last 10 years. My mother, my father, cousins, my best friend committed suicide a few months ago, and I've lost more friends than I can even count because of drugs. I have a really hard time with loss and coping with it so to see the strength coming through TobyMac it's 100% God's strength that's what I've realized is I don't have the strength that's why I need a savior to give me his strength.

At first I wasn't sure how to take TM putting out a song like this so soon after the incident, but hearing this song over and over again really makes me feel for him and that this was his way of saying goodbye to his son. I was never a huge fan of his, but this paints a different side of TM reality many artist ever share. May the lord keep you in his arms during this troubling time Toby.
You definitely need to check out more of his music! He's so "diverse" and you never know what you'll get from him. From back in the day when he was with DC Talk till now, it's like he always related to what I was going through in my life or what we as a society are going through.

I lost my son from an accidental overdose, 7 years ago @19 yrs old. This song helps me when I'm feeling sad, and gives me hope that I will see him again. Please, please, please, people.....love your family while they are here. We aren't guaranteed even the next moment, so enjoy every second.

I've had this on repeat over a dozen times. Very catchy and so heartfelt. I felt this even more because I've seen him almost 6 times live and met him twice. And he is such a humble and a pure kind soul. In one of his shows we got there about 3 hours early, and he let us in early for the VIP meet and greet.
Yes me too. I love Toby Mac. I first heard of him through DC Talk in the early 2000's. He loves being a God fearing man ,husband and father. My heart breaks for him and his family. Truly only the Lord can help you through this.

Been a long time Toby fan. And LOVED hearing Tru dog on the tracks with his dad. He was working thru his own issues and doing his own music as he got older. So heartbreaking to hear of his passing. **Also, side note.. the huge tree in the video is where they held the funeral service for Truett. Toby’s page put up pics..

The most beautiful and sad song I've ever heard and I'm 51 years old tomorrow. It should come with a warning label DO NOT WATCH IF YOU ARE AN EMPATH! I can't stop crying. I just found out my son is being paroled on an 18 yr sentence for drug poss. There is no pain greater than of a parent who loses a child. In the second verse at 3:42 he says “See you do your second show”. His son died the day after he preformed in his first concert. Toby Mac was there to watch his first show and then he passed away the next day.

My mom had two daughters. Me and my sister who was 8yrs younger. Rachel was diagnosed at 18 with cancer. She died at 22.
