My mom was having a girl's night of sorts. Her, my 7 sisters (4 by blood, 3-in law), my lady at the time and our sons. And it was the second time dudes almost killed, my children and their mother. I and my brothers decided it was time to get out the streets and get actual jobs and careers to take care of our family with. And we did so for almost a year, up until July 17th 2013 when we were playing basketball (I had 8 brothers, so we typically did older versus younger). We were having a great time. And out of nowhere my life as we knew it for the better part of a year was over. Driveby shooting in broad daylight in a community, tbh I still don't get it. I held my second oldest brother trying to help him and to the outsider looking in, you'd think I was encouraging him to fight to keep living. But through therapy I learned that I was rather begging him not to die. I'll never forget seeing his soul leave out his eyes as he breathed his last breath. So much chaos, fear, desperation ,confusion and etc with adrenaline, I didn't know that I was shot until I woke up in the hospital the next day but it was actually 4 days later and during this 4 days, I lost 4 more brothers. I was crushed and destroyed, when I got out the hospital and tried to returning to boxing in hopes of going pro, I couldn't move like I used to. My dream was gone. It took a while but seeing fights and fight movies like this inspired me to fight again. Ultimately fighting out of the darkest and hardest portion of my life. So I can totally understand where you're coming from
Alfred Hitchcock once said:"A movie is only as good as the antagonist." (antagonist meaning villain, opponent or bad guy). He was right. A movie with only a good main character but with a poorly written and totally uninteresting or unlikeable villain will sink.
The great Meridith Burgess. My favorite part in Rocky is when he swallows his pride and begs Rocky to let him train him. It's a great scene of redemption and 2nd chance for both men. Always give me chills and cry.
Fun fact: Sly and Carl actually did get mad at each other here because some of their punches were actually landing so for a minute they actually were fighting near the end of the scene. Stallone decided to keep it in because it was so good.
Man i love the difference in training from Micky and Duke. Duke being more of the sweet science, working on stance technique and staying a safe distance to use the jab effectively setting up combinations. Micky on the other hand trains fighters to have great stamina while using solid footwork to set up the power shots on the inside and destroying the body. He knows enough of the sweet science to use head and waist movement but his jab work is below average at best, but he makes up for it in the body attack and pure raw stamina while training his fighters to gain as he says, "greasy lightning speed."
It was unintentional foreshadowing, but Duke and Rocky both being so grounded and in awe of their opponents explains a lot how they gelled together so well in 4 and Balboa.
It's actually pretty great coming back and watching this with both Creed movies out. You can tell that both Stalone and Coogler did a great job with the writing for Adonis and Rocky. You see all the lessons that Mickey taught Rocky passed on to Adonis, but still showing how much of his father Adonis is as well.
I read that at the end of the second round when Stallone says “I’m standing here” was actually Stallone and Weathers taunting and egging one another on out of genuine anger as Weathers had landed a few real hits and Stallone started hitting back as Stallone was mad that Weathers messed up the carefully planned choreography. He liked the genuine reaction so much though he left it in. The audience had little to realize the two were really livid with one another.
I love the part where Rocky has Apollo in the corner "there is a camera cut" and then Rocky hits Apollo and water comes flying out of his mouth. Great choreography.
His trainer basically tells him that going into the fifteenth round. His score advantage is even more decisive in this fight than in the first movie, but Apollo wants the knockout too badly to play it safe. He was a true champion who wanted the best man to win, even if it wasn't him. And he would rather risk losing the title than live with the ambiguity of a split decision all over again.
That's not what he wanted though, if he just stayed away and let the bell save him he would have been right back where he started: People would be taunting him saying that he's a coward and that he won by a technicality. Apollo would have rather lost with dignity than won by pussing out.
Every scene with Burgess Meredith's Mick is a Master Class in acting. Meredith made these films as Rockys cantankerous Mentor. The greatest "Character Actor" of all time steals every scene as his "Greasy Fast Italian Monster!!" captures the Title. Mickey Goldmill. The magic behind the Monster.
Oh Man the memories Rocky brings. I still get goose bumps when Apollo finally starts feelin those shots and Rocky says I'm STANDIN here after he said he'd be gone in two rounds hahahahah. This movie got Me amped up and it also got Me into some fights I shouldn't have been in..but either way, I love it. Go Rock!
This is the best fight in the entire Rocky franchise, including Creed. Ferocious and the actors are actually good athletes, not just actors on a round of steroids. Their movements look realistic and fluid. As a result they don't need 50 cuts for a 2 min round, just a wide shot of two dudes going at it.
One of my favourite lines in the franchise along with I think we oughtta knock his block off (Rocky 2) I'm gonna bust you up- Go for it (Rocky 3) He's getting killed, No no he's not getting killed, he's getting mad! (Rocky 3) Put that heavy bag with eyeballs in the ring with me you'll see the meaning of pain (Rocky 4).
In retrospect I can see how Goku could be inspired by Rocky, and Vegeta and Apollo being similar with their pride. It’s a winning formula, the charming oaf vs the “takes himself to seriously” warrior
Trainer- this man is dangerous.. Appolo Creed- this man is dangerous.. I m dangerous. Meanwhile.. Rocky- this man is dangerous.. Adonis creed- this man is dangerous!? I m dangerous..
I wish the clip had extended to when Rocky goes back to his corner, he proclaims, "I ain't goin' down no more..."; that line always gives me goosebumps...
Maybe. But by Rocky IV we get the impression Drago is the most powerful monster Rocky has ever faced. This monster easily defeated a past-his-prime Creed and therefore I get the impression a Creed in his prime would have lasted maybe 4-5 rounds but still lost. I also believe Clubber Lang would have defeated Creed. Rocky wasn't a technical boxer when he went up against Apollo. He was a slugger who won by sheer will and he could hit hard - even if many of his punches didn't hit at all. A technical boxer *with* Rocky's will would be an all-time great. This is the boxer Rocky became in Rocky III. Had Rocky been the great combination of technique and iron-will in Rocky II then Apollo would have gone down in a few rounds. Here's the sum total. Nobody ever claims the Rocky series are realistic and they certainly became increasingly unrealistic in the original 1976-1990 run. For each movie the opponent had to become an even bigger threat and a greater monster. Clubber Lang knocked out the old slugger Rocky in two rounds so Rocky had to re-invent himself. Lang was a bit over-the-top. Drago is just a comic book villain - and that's meant in a BAD sense. Comically one-dimensional and unrealistic. How hard could he hit again? That's not even humanly possible. Lang had a personality. Drago is just a staring stiff. Nonetheless within the *context* of the movies it's clear Drago is the most powerful and dangerous opponent Rocky has ever faced. I don't see how the 1979 Creed would have done much better let alone winning against Drago. And if Drago really hit as hard as he did Rocky should have been knocked out in a few rounds as well. Only Rocky's iron will made him endure. Rocky IV was just a silly allegory for the Cold War. Today people would have laughed their a*ses off if Rocky (had it been made today) went up against some Middle Eastern guy called Mohammed (peace-be-upon-him) "allahu ackbar" Mujahedin La-deen (sounds like Laden). Instead of giving Rocky a real boxer to fight in Rocky IV - I'd like him to face a young boxer with an iron will but with no technique. That way the story could come full circle and Rocky would be facing a younger boxer reminding him of himself in younger years. It would be far more poignant, youth against experience, than some ridiculous Russkie caricature played by a lousy Swedish actor (forever stuck making direct-to-video action movies). Context. Distance to the material. Long story short. Drago was the worst monster Rocky faced. Apollo even in his prime would have gone down. That's what we learn from Rocky IV (however ridiculous the series had become by this point).
"You're a greasy fast I-talian tank!"....in 2017, Twitter would explode, call this racist, call Sly racist, call Mickey racist, and call to boycott the movie. With a healthy dose of "A white man wins against a black man! White wish-fulfillment!" thrown in. I'm glad this movie released in 1979.
Nice try. I'm actually very liberal....I just don't subscribe to the SJW-ified wing of today's liberalism. They're as nutty as the right wing nuts are, in their own way.

In Creed 2
Rocky: This Guy, he’s dangerous
Adonis: I’m dangerous
I like rockys strategy of conserving energy by not blocking any punches.
2:20 that blow looked so real
In the next one, they gonna be like "if you cant beat em' join em'
I just love how psyched Apollo is at 0:39... :D :D "This is it man"
I can't stop laughing every time Apollo winds up that right hand... 😂
Especially with the trash talk as he’s about to do it
And it actually connects. Looks damn fast. He's like Popeye the sailor man!
Go Rock!
"GO THROUGH HOM, RUNNER OVER HIM” that made me have a boxing match with my pillow.
00:38 “THIS IS IT MAN”
This is the best fight in the entire Rocky franchise, including Creed. Ferocious and the actors are actually good athletes, not just actors on a round of steroids. Their movements look realistic and fluid. As a result they don't need 50 cuts for a 2 min round, just a wide shot of two dudes going at it.
A film with heart and soul......drama doesn't come much better than this...
"You're a tank!... You're a greasy, fast, 200-pound I-talian tank!...".
"Go through him..Run over him "..Love that voice
1:47 love how rocky is more frustrated then hurt
For being such a great coach, Mick never taught Rocky the secret of "blocking".
@0:21 “this man is dangerous”
“I’m dangerous”. That’s what Adonis says in the creed 2 trailer! Paying homage to the classics
0:24 is fantastic
I miss you, dad. He always said that line
I feel so bad that Rocky hates to protect his face
Blalb lik i swear he never puts his hands up
The body, the body, the body! Love that line, Mickey was sucha great manager
Apollo wss 100% inspired by ali, i can tell
"I can't believe it; he broke my nose again!"
-Rocky Balboa
So not a very good tank then considering Italian tanks were blown up the instant they were spotted
Great Jamie this is the kinda stuff a weird kid in highschool says
wrathofscorpias it’s called a WW2 reference
Great Jamie in a full year not one like..horrendous comment even for RUclips Lol
I guess Drago didn't embrace the analogy well enough, considering Soviet tanks were some of the very best.
SSCarpathia_159 yeah, Soviet tanks were above average, good in large numbers
R.I.P Carl
“Getcha cameras ready, he’s going down” 😂
Its amazing how well they brought lines from rocky into creed 2
Rocky 2 -Apollo- I'm dangerous
Couple years later
Creed 2 -Adonis-Im dangerous
1:33 Who's that beauty on the right?
I used to watch this as a kid and I never noticed how rocky isn’t trying to block or dodge any of these punches 😂
GO THROUGH HIM, RUNOVERHIM!!!
like how gazzo is cheering him
*Gets nose broken*
"That guy is great"
Of all the things to say about the man who just broke your nose...
Definitely not what I'D be sayin😂😂😂
One of my favourite lines in the franchise along with
I think we oughtta knock his block off (Rocky 2)
I'm gonna bust you up- Go for it (Rocky 3)
He's getting killed, No no he's not getting killed, he's getting mad! (Rocky 3)
Put that heavy bag with eyeballs in the ring with me you'll see the meaning of pain (Rocky 4).
“Go through him RUN OVER HIM”
0:22
Like father like son
Adonis Creed also says the same 'I am dangerous'
Man these films are amazing !
"Go through him, RUN OVER HIM." Hearing and seeing that in the flashbacks in Rocky Balboa's last fight was great.
He was 31 when his career started. Sitting here at 31 like come on success
2:19 Rocky pulls Apollo into the corner like pushing around
the meat in the meat factory!!
I was just wondering about that. Is that a legal boxing move? Is there a limit to how long or how far you can push an opponent like that?
L.Pasteur I think you can push your opponent, you just can’t hold them
In retrospect I can see how Goku could be inspired by Rocky, and Vegeta and Apollo being similar with their pride.
Jazz King lol and I thought I was the only one who picked up on that 😂
Lol
Rrrrrruuuunnnnngggg Over him!!!!!! Epic energy from that old man.
I just realized Adonis creed said in dangerous and his father said the same thing here
I wish the clip had extended to when Rocky goes back to his corner, he proclaims, "I ain't goin' down no more..."; that line always gives me goosebumps...
"Roll over him!"
Rocky gets knocked down a minute later.
I guess he really was an Italian tank.
I love Duke saying "the best of all time" to Apollo
This appollo Creed would have destroyed Drago
@@jamesshunt5123 why did you write so much?
@@503945158 lol
'Rocky takes 20 hits to the face'
All of us: Dude put your damn hands up!!
Today I learned, I been pronouncing Italian wrong
Idiot
"He broke my nose again.." Mick: "Aah, whatever.." Mick did say he'd beat him uglier than he was. xD
"You're a greasy fast I-talian tank!"....in 2017, Twitter would explode, call this racist, call Sly racist, call Mickey racist, and call to boycott the movie. With a healthy dose of "A white man wins against a black man! White wish-fulfillment!" thrown in. I'm glad this movie released in 1979.
caomhan84 Right wing fool
Nice try. I'm actually very liberal....I just don't subscribe to the SJW-ified wing of today's liberalism. They're as nutty as the right wing nuts are, in their own way.
caomhan84 he's italian not white
+Lt. joker2477 italians are white?
Alllah Akbar no. Italians are latino. "White" was only defined as british germanic and nordic descent.
Low key the reason Rocky is so durable in the movies is because he rolls with the punches pretty good.
luv meridth
What made Rocky great is that he had a MANAGER!
