This is great. You get straight to the point. Others RUclipsrs would start with an anecdote or the history of mics or whatever, but you get straight in there.
Really helpful. Thank you. Question - Ages ago I was taught that plugging a mic into any device via an adaptor reduces quality. Has that problem been solved?
Definitely, there is a difference in the sound quality when I plug the same mic into the camera and the phone. But the quality is still way better than using the default iPhone mic.
fantastic...any updates for iphone 15 with USB-C connectors? I just got a 15pro max...I would prefer NOT to deal with adapters etc...are there any shotgun mics that already have USB-C connectors? what USB-C compact mini shot gun would you recommend? Something simple...wired is fine-just plug and play...thanks
The Rode VideoMic Go II. It's a small shotgun style mic. It has USB-C out, so you can just plug in a USB-C to USB-C cable from the mic to the iPhone 15, 15 Pro and 15 pro Max.
When you plug the external mic into the iPhone, where is that audio recording into? Does it record right into the video? Will the iPhone internal mic still record as well? Thank you this video is very helpful.
Since the iphone is so sensitive, would you recommend the rode video micro compact instead? I'm currently using the Rode Video Mic Pro, and i admit i cant seem to increase the volume very much without getting some background noise, even after reducing it down using the Protake app
Okay I seriously CANNOT find an answer to this on the internet ANYWHERE. I want an external microphone for iPhone that is completely Bluetooth and does not require me to plug anything into my iPhone at all. Why does this not exist? My earbuds are external microphones that don’t require any type of receiver to work with my iPhone. So why do all wireless lavaliere mics need a receiver to work with an iPhone? I do not understand. Is it a latency issue? The Bluetooth connection isn’t fast enough to capture the audio in real time? That seems hard to believe in this day & age.
The mic that comes with the DJI Pocket 3 apparently connects via bluetooth...but they don't sell it on its own 🙃 ruclips.net/video/u48MucPjCfw/видео.htmlsi=0PErRPIOGrZOlXRd
Hope you can help me. Can I use 2 microphones.. and HOW... I need to record with a lavalier and with an ambient microphone. . can I configure both? and how? please I need Help.. thanks in advance
Yes, you can do it, There are 2 ways. 1. Connect one of the mics to the camera and the other to the external recorder 2. Option 2 - Use a Wireless Mic System, put it in stereo mode. The left channel records the person the right channel records the ambient
what kind of adapter did you use for iPhone? i have iPhone 15 pro and I'm getting mono. I have the same cable TRS to TRRS. but the secondary connector seems wrong.
I used the original adapter from Apple that they shipped with the older models. Lighting to TRRS. If you have the 15 it would be better to check a USB-C mic, it should give a bit better performance
Hi thank you so much for your tips. could you tell me the model of your mic with windcat that you attached to your shirt? It's seem like dji mic but i'm not sure Gianluca
I use a Hollyland Lark M1 mic. It works great with Snapchat, but if I use the default camera app on my iPhone, it records low sound. What could be the solution? Please reply.
When you plug an external mic into iphone the auto leveling doesn't work. You have to adjust the mic levels manually. Try increasing the DB levels from the Mic Receiver
@@FreeGafo It is already at the highest setting. This mic has three options (low, medium, high). When I use Snapchat, I have to increase the volume by 1-3 dB in post-production, whereas if I use the default camera, I need to increase it by more than 6.5 dB. I think I need to use a third-party app like you said in the video(Protake).
Same problem with me. IPhone 13 Pro. I have used different dangles, checked TRRS/TRS plugs, and tried different mics. Battery powered lavalier mic, Røde videopro,
@@FreeGafo so for one of the mix you said you have to connect the wire with 2 black strips to the mic and the 3 black strip side on the lightning, but for lavalier the wire is already connected to the mic so how do I connect it because lavalier lavalier doesn't have tsr and tss option
@@FreeGafo Because it's no difference between the internal microfone and the Rode one. I have bought the adaptors and still they don't work. I am very dissapointed.
@@stevenjohnson7086 I have the 13 pro with ios 17 and the external mics work without an issue. Did you check the port, sometimes it collects dust and doesn't connect well?
@@FreeGafo No, it’s not the port, the cords, the plugs or any order/combination of connections. It’s not the mics, either. The mics work well with our Canon Rebel T3i and they also work on an old iPhone 3C It is definitely something with this model of iPhone.

Hi, This is the best video on RUclips explaining how to get the external mics to work with the iPhone. Thanks.
I use Pro Movie. $4.00 app and can adjust audio levels with external mic.
Thank you, Can we adjust microphone level from original Apple Camera app?
No, at the current moment you can’t do it
@@FreeGafo thank you

The external Mic overwrites the iPhone mics. The sound from the external mic is baked onto the Video

You have to be careful with Bluetooth. They can cause latency problems and be out of sync from your video.
