  • Realistically, if you're weighing up the S23 Ultra and S24 Ultra, chances are you're deciding if you want the very latest and greatest, or if it's better to save some cash with the older model.
Because look at the pricing of the S23 Ultra -- under $900 in places in the US, and well under £800 here in the UK -- and compare it to the top-ticket prices demanded by the S24 Ultra? And yeah, that's a lot of extra of Benjamins for two phones that are very much alike.
So let's dive into the actual differences between these two and see whether the latest Ultra can justify the extra cash.

Eh we’ll see, much easier to announce 7 years of OS updates versus actually doing it. Apples been doing long term updates for almost a decade, Google and Samsung have not so it’s essentially a cash grab until the S24 and Pixel 8 line ups actually hit 7 years of support.

It's worth to note that S24 Ultra has the most advanced Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SOC, but Samsung's software limitation is holding back audio capabilities of the new CPU. No aptX Adaptive support? Seriously? They offer older codecs, even their own SSC, but not the latest tech. Let's demand Samsung unlock our phones potential! #aptXAdaptive #SamsungCommunity Samsung Istarted this topic on the community page a few days ago and it is getting lots of attention through Samsung Members. Let's make Samsung do something about it, showing that we care about our audio experience on our new flagship Smartphones!! We want to spread the awareness of this problem. Lack of APTx HD / older specs of APTx Adaptive or even LHDC for Lossless Audio that phone supports 24bit audio via FLAC is a problem that Samsung have been skipping since S23 Ultra release ignoring needs of many audio enthusiast. I would appreciate someone discussing this in a YT video to raise the awareness in the community of existing S24 Ultra owners and people looking to buy it.

But I change my phone every 4 years so s23u is still good to me. The camera works fine, and now we have the ai features as well. Plus I just like the color lavender too much. Samsung should be more creative when it comes to color decisions of their flagship phones. So I mean technically we're still in year 1 as the OS the phone shipped with (Android 13) doesn't count as one of the 4 years of upgrades.

I grabbed the 512g model of the S24 Ultra & paid the extra $480 cash to own it. (Instead of payments)

I've been buying Samsung high end phones since the S4. I'm currently using the s23 ultra. I pre-ordered the s24 ultra. They offered $150 credit if you pre-order meanwhile in the phone comes out everybody else is selling it for $1,300 and Samsung is selling it for $1450 so there goes $150. I always get the unlocked version so I don't have to deal with the carriers bulls#$@.
They offered a good trade-in price so I ordered it. When it came in I ran it through its paces and quickly noticed it no longer support mobile hotspot. For those who don't know Android phones come free with mobile hotspot sharing. But the carriers lock that down on every phone because they want to charge you $20 more months for that free feature. Samsung was one of the last companies to still offer it on their unlocked phone no longer once I noticed Samsung has given into the carriers that was the last feature and the last draw that broke the camel's back. I returned the phone quickly I'm still using my s23 ultra and I'm now waiting for apples announcement for the new phone because I'm switching. There's no reason to keep a Samsung phone with all the great features that made it consumer friendly are now gone

As far as I know for sure, I will not buy Samsung products until they change their policy and attitude towards customers! I own an S 23 Ultra, but their humiliation of non-US, UK, and Korean customers extremely annoying. Are they worth $1500 more in those countries than in the rest of the world, to be discriminated against and deprived of some of the most important options, such as the Good Lock module, pressure measurement on the Watch 6 Classic or televisions without Samsung TV +? They have become more and more expensive, which will cost them dearly, and it is already starting, because it is their best-selling, cheapest phone model! I owned two Xiaomi models, which I received as a gift, MI 11 special edition and MI 11 Ultra, they were incredible, and in terms of features, which Samsung does not allow everyone, phenomenal devices and then I ask myself, why would I waste money, that is, give it to someone who does not respect my money!? I will wait for the release of the Pixel 9 Pro, because I read on the forums that the hardware quality of the previous phones was bad, so I'll decide, should I stay on Android or should I switch to the safe variant, which is not really my favorite, and buy I-phone 16 Pro Max!? I have been a loyal Samsung customer since the advent of smartphones but they excelled by every measure, and they even started to flaunt other manufacturer feathers, specifically Google's AI, as their greatest achievement. I don't want humiliation and discrimination! If you advertise something, like exclusive, but you beat me and only when I buy what you advertised and see that it is unaffordable to me, what can I say, except that they are scammers, and this is how they started behaving since the "war" for flagships began phone between them and the I-phone, forgetting that some other manufacturers also make great phones! So, I was planning to switch to the S 24 Ultra, and since I'm rambling so much I can't come up with an answer, if I buy their latest flagship, will I be able to use everything they advertise and I still get no answer, I have given up on it and will change manufacturers! Just so there's no confusion, I know I can install all functions through a third party, but I don't want to do that. I want to get from the manufacturer what I paid for and that is a very expensive phone!

As a decade or so long samsung user (ever since the Galaxy S7) I have to say their photo quality has increasingly deteriorated (better night time results, worse daytime photos) and lately never really reached the one of the iphone, especially not the one of the 14 or 15pro. Just look at DXO results/review. I currently have an S22 and photo quality is abysmal, there is no other word to describe it. My g/f's iphone 14 pro is vastly superior in most aspects. Don't even start me on video. Samsung's face detection is a joke, why do they even bother and the fingerprint reader doesn't work half the time with a screen protector, even with screen sensitivity increased! Battery life is shoddy. - Year after year I give them another chance and usually am taken in by features, most of which I never use! In addition to all of this, as if it wasn't enough, us Europeans also get screwed with a processor which usually comes second to the Qualcom derivative. This year my chosen handheld is the iphone Pro. The only thing I still need to figure out is Max or smaller Pro. I had two Notes in succession and then changed to the S22 because of size. Occasionally, but not often, I miss the larger size. More often than not, especially in summer, I'm glad for the pocketability of the smaller phone. Now the pen of the 'Note' is a great gadget and one I did use occasionally but not enough to make this the feature I really need. Plus the S24 Ultra is an absolute brick. Soon enough you'll find yourself wishing for a smaller phone. 'Are you just pleased to see me ... '? Even on the older Notes, the phones were more uncomfortable to hold, pocket and operate one handed. At least they've gotten rid of the horrible curved screens but the sharp corners are clearly form over function and will make pocketability, or what's left of it, nigh on impossible.
As to operating systems, honestly, I prefer Android but once you accept the limitations on ios, its ok and you appreciate how good the things you have work. I use a Macbook Pro M2 and so far resisted the iphone for stupid reasons, it's changing now.
Samsung = Jack of all trades ... master of none.

If it wasn't for the free watch 6 and low £480 cost after trade in, I wouldn't have upgraded my 8gb S23U to get a 12gb S24U.
In 12 months time the S24U will offer more trade in value and have a higher resale value.
It remains to be seen if the S25U will improve enough and what preorder offers they do to tempt upgrading again.

The pre-order and trade in offers are always insane imo, they had a "every brand, every condition" trade in this year, where you got 250€ off for ANY Smartphone you trade in. I send my 10 year old Huawei with broken display thats worth nothing xD
plus the watch 6 which is worth 300€ at least and an additional 15% off if you use the samsung shop app to buy. Pretty insane
Meanwhile Apple: "Oh you wanna trade in your IPhone 14 Pro Max with 512gb you bought last year for 1.700€? We will give you 500 for it!"
